The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts offers a variety of tours, art classes, and programs year-round. Our day-trip and overnight tours provide an opportunity to visit some of the regions most notable historic sites, museums, and art galleries.

The Museums art classes are for adults, teens, and children. Should your child not meet the age requirements, please contact the Museums Education Department. An exception may be made if your child is interested in a certain class.

All tours and art classes are to be paid in full upon registration unless other arrangements have been approved by the Education Department. Cancellations received more than two weeks prior to the start of class or tour date will be given a 50% refund. Cancellations made within two weeks will not be refunded.

The Lillian Orlowsky And William Freed Foundation Grant

The Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Grant is awarded annually to under-recognized American painters over the age of 45 who demonstrate financial need. The mission of this grant is to promote public education of and a commitment to American art, and to encourage interest in artists who lack adequate recognition.

Academic Year: Weekend Classes

During the fall, winter, and spring, teen classes are held on weekends and meet once a week. The Visual Arts Centre provides numerous art classes in Montreal. Our School of Art is the largest bilingual independent non-profit art school in Canada and has been involved in the teaching of art for over 70 years. We receive almost 4000 registrations per year, from students of all ages and walks of life. Bilingual classes are available at all levels on weekdays and weekends, all year round! Philadelphia Museum Of Art

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is an art museum originally chartered in 1876 for the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. The main museum building was completed in 1928 on Fairmount, a hill located at the northwest end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at Eakins Oval. The museum administers collections containing over 240,000 objects including major holdings of European, American and Asian origin. The various classes of artwork include sculpture, paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, armor, and decorative arts.

Several special exhibitions are held in the museum every year, including touring exhibitions arranged with other museums in the United States and abroad. The museum had 437,348 visitors in 2021, making it the 65th most-visited art museum worldwide.

Art Campssponsored By Owensboro Grain Company

An annual series of free art camps are designed to present broad learning experiences in the visual arts to children ages 6 to 15, provide outreach to economically disadvantaged youths, and serve as a bridge for generating partnerships with community social service agencies. During each session, one-half of the seats are reserved for children recommended by social service agencies, and the remaining seats are offered to the general public.

Camps are scheduled during spring and fall school breaks in the childrens art studio, ArtLand, and in the summer under canopies in Ryan Sculpture Park. Sessions include guided tours of the current exhibitions by the museums education staff and art instruction led by local and regional professional artists.

At the conclusion of the camps, exhibitions of the works of art produced are featured in the museums Young at Art Gallery.

The Carl Otto Kretzschmar Von Kienbusch Collection

The museum also houses the armor collection of Carl Otto Kretzschmar von Kienbusch. The Von Kienbusch collection was bequeathed by the celebrated collector to the museum in 1976, the Bicentennial Anniversary of the American Revolution. The Von Kienbusch holdings are comprehensive and include European and Southwest Asian arms and armor spanning several centuries.

On May 30, 2000, the museum and the State Art Collections in Dresden, Germany , announced an agreement for the return of five pieces of armor stolen from Dresden during World War II. In 1953, Von Kienbusch had unsuspectingly purchased the armor, which was part of his 1976 bequest. Von Kienbusch published catalogs of his collection, which eventually led Dresden authorities to bring the matter up with the museum.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art organizes several special exhibitions each year. Special exhibitions have featured Salvador Dalà in 2005,Paul Cézanne in 2009, in 2010,Vincent van Gogh in 2012,Pablo Picasso in 2014,John James Audubon and Andy Warhol in 2016,Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent in 2017, and the Duchamp siblingsâ, Gaston, Raymond and Suzanneâin 2019. A Jasper Johns exhibition is planned for 2021.

In 2009, the museum organized Bruce Nauman: Topological Gardens, the official United States entry at the 53rd International Art Exhibition, more commonly known as the Venice Biennale, for which the artist Bruce Nauman was awarded the Golden Lion.

The kids program is intended for ages 511. Classes are broken down into age appropriate groups with both online and in-person options. Classes meet once a week during the fall, winter, and spring. Students explore the Museums collection, then respond to what they have seen through drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking projects, and more.

Construction Of The Main Building

The City Council of Philadelphia funded a competition in 1895 to design a new museum building, but it was not until 1907 that plans were first made to construct it on Fairmount, a rocky hill topped by the city’s main reservoir. The Fairmount Parkway , a grand boulevard that cut diagonally across the grid of city streets, was designed to terminate at the foot of the hill. But there were conflicting views about whether to erect a single museum building, or a number of buildings to house individual collections. The architectural firms of Horace Trumbauer and Zantzinger, Borie and Medary collaborated for more than a decade to resolve these issues. The final design is mostly credited to two architects in Trumbauer’s firm: Howell Lewis Shay for the building’s plan and massing, and for the detail work and perspective drawings. In 1902, Abele had become the first African-American student to be graduated from the University of Pennsylvania‘s Department of Architecture, which is presently known as Penn’s School of Design. Abele adapted classical Greek temple columns for the design of the museum entrances, and was responsible for the colors of both the building stone and the figures added to one of the pediments.

The building is also adorned by a collection of bronze griffins, which were later adopted as the symbol of the museum in the 1970s.

Using open-source software Blender, students learn to create custom models for video, gaming, and VR. Focus is on building custom objects, environments, and characters to be used inside a Unity VR project. Principles of 3D sculpting, 3D animation, basic rigging, UV mapping, custom materials and textures, low- and high-poly models, file formats, and importing/exporting.

In this class, students will focus on the nuts and bolts of making a mark using digital painting software such as Photoshop and Procreate. Through step by step, in-class exercises and homework assignments we will learn all the joys of digital painting. Where You Can Transfer

College of DuPage has several art transfer agreements in place with four-year colleges and universities to save you time, money and make the transfer process easier.

Many of these agreements with other colleges and universities have specific course requirements and a pre-determined course plan that needs to be followed to be eligible to transfer. Contact a program faculty member or academic advisor to learn more as course requirements vary by institution.

Native American Lesson Plans

This classroom resource was created for use in social studies lessons, specifically in fourth and fifth grade. The Alabama Course of Study standards and objectives touch briefly on the rich and lengthy history of Native Americans in what is now the state of Alabama. The MMFA, with the help of Mvskoke tribe members, and state historians have created an interactive educators guide that provides more in depth, culturally relevant, and historically accurate information for teachers to supplement their lessons on Alabama history. With an emphasis on social studies and reading literacy each teacher who accesses this resource qualifies for a free set of grade level appropriate books on Native American history for their classroom.

Summer Studio Art Classes

Summer Studio Art Classes at the MFA consist of five-day, online and in-person classes that focus on a specific theme. Groups of 10-12 children discover new places and cultures influenced by the collection and draw, paint, sculpt, collage, print, and more. Themes include Time Travelers, Treasure Hunters, Natural Wonders and more! Please note that registration for summer classes ends at 12 pm the Friday before the class is scheduled to start.

The world famous Museum of Fine Arts is a simply stunning place to take art classes, particularly for those interested in classic fine arts. The Fredi Schiff Levin Lecture Series

The Fredi Schiff Levin Lecture Series welcomes artists, art historians, curators, and authors to speak at PAAM. Some lectures are in conjunction with exhibitions, others are given by independent scholars. The series was established in honor of artist Fredi Schiff Levin, an active member of Provincetowns arts community from the 1960s until her passing in 2002.

Our Philosophy And Curriculum

Our philosophy of teaching balances the development of technical skills with the encouragement of personal creativity. Admission to introductory courses is based on the interests of the student no formal education is required. Small classes of 15 students or less allow for much individual attention. Our curriculum of approximately 325 courses annually includes most major disciplines in the visual arts, from introductory to advanced levels. Workshops by visiting artists and our faculty enhance the program throughout the year. As a cultural space, the Centre is renowned for its vibrant sense of community and engagement amongst students, artists, teachers, and staff.
