Rochester Museum And Science Center Comes To Life After Dark

RMSC After Dark is a 21+ themed, quarterly event which has gained so much popularity among adults of all ages that they consistently sell out. Lately they have been including the Strasenburgh Planetarium in the agenda, adding star shows and laser light shows to the mix of science, games, crafts, music and dance activities. After Dark usually an indoor & outdoor event in the warmer months, and dinner is available at food trucks parked in the lot.

Get there early! With the regular admission tickets, I recommend getting there a half-hour early just to grab a parking spot, otherwise youre parking on the street blocks away. Another option is to park your car in the lot around 5 PM and walk over to Park Ave. and grab a bite at one of the local restaurants.

Make sure to visit RMSCs website regularly for special showings, science lectures, and members-only events.

What Our Families Are Saying:

I sent my 2 children to RMSC day camp for 2 different weeks this summer. We were so impressed by everything! The measures taken to keep the campers safe, the organization and care of the staff and the overall positive atmosphere made for an incredible experience for my family. The kids came home every day with a smile on their face. They loved their counselors, made new friends, and loved the activities so much. I cannot say enough good things about the RMSC summer camp. Thank you for giving the kids a safe and fun experience to break up a very tough summer. We HIGHLY recommend this camp and can’t wait to sign up again next year. We are lucky to have you in our community. – Jenna Knauf

Please thank all of your staff for me! My son really enjoyed camp this week. Your approach to the recent requirements was well thought out, and it runs like a well oiled machine. I felt perfectly comfortable sending my son there. He had so much fun and talked about his one counselor Koa non-stop! – Carrie Webster

Enough To See For Several Hours

Spent several hours here on a Saturday afternoon in April. Fair amount of free off-street parking but we had to hunt a bit to find an open spot. Staff was very friendly. Lots of exhibits to enjoy and learn from. Great for kids. Because the place is big, it didn’t seem too crowded, especially in the areas that didn’t cater to kids. We bought tickets upon entry for that evening’s laser light show set to Beatles music next door. I think it may have made it cheaper that way. That show ended up being sold out so were glad we got tickets hours ahead. That 45-minute show was very entertaining and something different.

We wanted to spend a few hours doing something fun and educational! This was the perfect place. They also had the dinosaur exhibit which was a site to see. Great for all ages and you’ll learn something new visiting the museum

Visiting The Fantastic Rochester Museum And Science Center

Jim CheneyDisclosure:

When I travel with my family, Im always on the lookout for things to do with my young children. So, when we visited Rochester, New York, I was excited to discover the Rochester Museum and Science Center.

The Rochester Museum and Science Center was formed in 1912 and was initially located in present-day Edgerton Park. Since the 1940s, its been located along East Avenue just southeast of the citys downtown core and very close to the popular George Eastman Museum.

The museum is part Rochester history museum, part science museum, and part childrens museum, which means that theres a whole lot to see here.

The museums main exhibition space is on the first and second floor with the third floor more devoted to fun activities for younger kids.

The first floor of the Rochester Museum and Science Center is largely occupied by Expedition Earth. This area features exhibits covering everything from dinosaurs to how earthquakes occur. And, while the space has a wide breadth of topics, they do a great job blending the subjects together.

What I really liked was that the area featured enough interactive things to do to keep my kids happy while also having signage that offered me the chance to learn more about the different topics and displays.

Even better, the displays were written in a way that most kids should be able to understand the concepts while not being dumbed down for adults. Its a fine line, but the museum does a great job of staying on it.
