First Thursdays At Orlando Museum Of Art

Dominique Labauvie, 2022 Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, Orlando Museum of Art

Posted On: April 4, 2018

As an art connoisseur visiting Orlando, youll want to include a trip to the Orlando Museum of Art to enjoy its collection of ancient and contemporary art. If your visit happens to coincide with the first Thursday of the month, then consider yourself especially lucky. Every first Thursday of each month, Orlando Museum of Art hosts 1st Thursdays, a special event where you can enjoy the work of established and emerging local artists as well as the museum exhibit. Dubbed Orlandos Original Art Party, 1st Thursdays is the ideal place to get an early start to your weekend as you mix and mingle with Orlando artists.

Toyland Town And Santa Claus At Oma Festival Of Trees

As with any other place that features fragile displays, great caution must be used if choosing to take young children to the Festival of Trees. But if you do, be sure to visit Toyland Town, a special area where children can do crafts, play games, and even join in a scavenger hunt. At select times Santa will be present to receive the wish list for all good little girls and boys! Then your little ones can shop-till-they-drop in the Toyland Shop which is filled with kiddie gifts and great stocking stuffers.

I highly recommend the Reindeer Romp Childrens Party, a specially ticketed evening event that occurs mid-week during the nine day Festival of Trees. Entertainment includes Balloon Artists, Storytellers, Comedy Variety Artists, Crayola Experience, Face Painting, Sing-Alongs, StiltFun, Russian Ballet of Orlando, Photo Booth, and Santa Claus himself! Its a wonderful holiday party for the entire family.

Festival Of Trees At The Orlando Museum Of Art

Strolling through dazzling Christmas trees, festive wreaths and unique gingerbread creations at the Festival of Trees has long marked the start of the holiday season for Central Floridians.

The beloved event will celebrate a landmark of 35 years with the theme Sparkling Holiday Traditions. The event, presented by the Council of 101, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 13-21 at the Orlando Museum of Art. This years platinum presenting sponsor for Festival of Trees Orlando is Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center.

During this time, the museum will be transformed into the festive holiday wonderland the Central Florida community and beyond have come to expect. The fact that record crowds have been awed and inspired by the glittering displays is why the theme was selected according to Council of 101.

Were so proud to have created an event that has become the fabric of holiday celebrations in Central Florida, said Joan Kennedy, president of Council of 101. Its truly an honor to see generation after generation make Festival of Trees part of their holiday traditions.

During Festival of Trees, visitors can see more than 25 designer-inspired decorated trees, all available for purchase, as well as exceptional gingerbread houses, wreaths, and more. There will be a holiday shopping experience, as well as pop-up shops and live entertainment.

FAMILY ADVENTURES @ ORLANDO MUSEUM OF ARTS

The annual Festival of Trees at the Orlando Museum of Art is my go-to event to kick off the holiday season in Central Florida. For those who like to decorate early, it always occurs the week before Thanksgiving, giving the buyers an opportunity to display their creative finds for visiting family and friends while feasting on that fabulous fried turkey dinner.

Each year the Orlando Museum of Art Festival of Trees has a different theme. The Art of the Holidays was chosen for the 30th anniversary theme of this popular event. It is always presented by the Council of 101, a group of nearly 300 women who volunteer their time and talents to make this holiday tradition possible. They were founded in 1965 with a vision to further the cultural development and education of the visual arts in Central Florida. Their two main fundraisers, Festival of Trees in November and Antiques Show in February, provide much needed financial resources for the Orlando Museum of Art.

Upwards of 20,000 people visit the Festival of Trees each year! And since it began three decades ago, more than $5 million dollars has been contributed, making it the major fundraiser for this popular Central Florida Art Museum.
