Get Your Entire Family Into Your Favorite Chicago Attractions For Free On Specific Days This Winter
Do you love visiting museums? Do you love visiting museums for FREE? Weve put together our list of special days when we know Chicago museums offer free admission in January-March of 2022.
2022 looks a bit different for free museum days. Some popular museums have pushed pause temporarily on the free days practice and some arent open at all right now. As the year proceeds , hopefully more free days will return.
COVID-19 safety protocols are in place with some variation. Some venues may still require proof of vaccination for entry because of Chicagos Public Health Order No. 2021-2. Check all COVID-related protocols before your visit, including whether masks are required or recommended, whether timed entry reservations are required, whether coat checks are operating, or whether concessions are open or closed. Remember that Chicago may follow a different timeline than the state of Illinois for altering restrictions.
The days listed below are mostly free for Illinois residents. That means you must provide valid Illinois proof of residency a drivers license or state I.D. usually suffices.
Weve also included the average free day savings for a family of four so you can see how beneficial these are to your family budget. For many museums, the kid price applies to children 3-11, but sometimes its 13 and under. Always look at the fine print.
And finally, another option to save money on your Chicago visit avoid parking charges and take the train.

The Art Of The Brick: Msis Newest Special Exhibit
In the first hall, visitors will find replicas of famous masterpieces such as Starry Night by Van Gogh, or Rodins The Thinker. The exhibits creator, Nathan Sawaya, also includes quite a few larger-than-life original pieces, ending with a 20-foot Tyrannosaurus Rex and a replica of Chicago Artist Hebru Brantleys Flyboy.
The second hall includes even more original and reimagined works, as well as a LEGO infused photography collection. We were very impressed to see beautiful photographs, where items were replaced with LEGO imagery. The attention to detail and creativity in each piece was truly remarkable.
Looking at all of these pieces certainly had us feeling inspired. Luckily, no trip to this exhibit would be complete without some time to play with LEGOs, too. The One Brick Studio invites families use LEGOs as a means to express their emotions. Families were asked to build something representing one of six different emotions, then have their family members guess which one they created.

If Julian Rosenwald could see his dream now the Museum of Science and Industry has done more than fill the former Palace of Fine Arts. Its fourteen acres and four hundred thousand square feet are brimming with nearly thirty-five thousand artifacts.
The Coal Mine U505 Submarine the Hatchery, where kids have been watching chicks break out of their shells since 1956 and the Fairy Castle continue to be popular, and theyre joined by newer exhibits that cover a breadth of disciplines. The museum replaced the walk-in heart with a 3D model.
The Santa Fe Railroad became the Great Train Story, a minutely detailed model railroad depicting transportation from Chicago to Seattle. Its located in the Transportation Gallery, which has everything from a model of the Wright Brothers plane to an actual Boeing 727.
The Hatchery is now part of Genetics: Decoding Life. Toymaker 3000 is a real working toy assembly line. Yesterdays Mainstreet goes back in time to early 20th Century Chicago, and the Henry Crown Space Center is out of this world.
Science Storms showcases the terrific and terrifying power of mother nature: visitors can step inside a 40-foot tornado, manipulate avalanches, and make lightning strike.
The Museum of Science and Industry makes science accessible and fun. With more than 190 million visitors since opening in 1933, the museum continues to be the most popular in Chicago.
