We are “walkers” on vacations usually and would like to maybe walk this.

I have fallen in love with Google Maps. Go to Google, click on “Maps”, click on “Get directions”. In the “A” blank type “hotel provincial”, click on the New Orleans location. In the “B” blank type “national world war II museum”, click on the Magazine Street location. Click on the little walking guy above the A and B blanks, and you will then be shown a pedestrian map, distance, estimated time, and detailed step by step directions. Now it gets cool click on the little bus icon above the A and B blank, and you will be given public transit options, including the streetcar/bus and associated walking routes, which can be narrowed by entry of time of desired departure or arrival. But it gets cooler, if you’re in a bar with a smart phone and wondering when you need to actually leave to catch the next streetcar/bus at that particular stop, go to on your phone, click “ETA/Real-Time Map BETA”, type in the line number , line direction, and particular stop, and you will be informed of the estimated ACTUAL arrival time at that stop based on GPS vehicle tracking.
Weather and time permitting, I’d also walk.

National Wwii Museum Breaks Ground On $665m 8

The National WWII Museum broke ground Friday on the eight-story, $66.5 million Higgins Hotel and Conference Center, one of the final pieces of the sprawling educational complex dedicated to Americas involvement in the Second World War.
With a target opening of 2019, the 230-room hotel will include 91 rooms with king-size beds, 103 with double queens, 25 junior suites, eight one-bedroom suites and three VIP suites.
The conference center will include more than 18,000 square feet of meeting space, including a boardroom and five meeting rooms, the largest being 6,566 square feet.
Stephen J. Watson, the museums president and chief executive officer, said the hotel and conference center will support the National WWII Museum financially and educationally.
Relation To New Orleans
The museum closed for three months after Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans on August 29, 2005, re-opening on December 3 of that year. A museum banner promoted the re-opening by proclaiming “We Have Returned,” a phrase made famous by General Douglas MacArthur regarding his eventual return to the Philippines in 1944.
As of 2015, the museum is in the midst of a $400 million capital expansion campaign called The Road to Victory: A Vision for Future Generations. The expansion has resulted in significant increases in attendance. The Solomon Victory Theater, Stage Door Canteen, and American Sector restaurant opened in November 2009. The John E. Kushner Restoration Pavilion opened in June 2011. The US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center opened to the public in 2013, followed by the opening of the first phase of the Campaigns of Courage pavilion in 2014. The second phase of the Campaigns of Courage Pavilion, Road to Tokyo, opened in 2015. The final project in the expansion will be the Liberation Pavilion. Initially, the intended date of completion of the expansion project was 2015, but ground has not yet been broken on the final pavilion.
Visitation at the museum continues to grow, with 406,251 in 2010 having grown to nearly 700,000 in fiscal year 2016.

What Hotel Near World War 2 Museum
My husband and I plan to come to NOLA to visit the National World War 2 museum.
My Grandfather stormed the beaches on D Day and I wanted to see this museum as a tribute to him.
We only have a couple days in NOLA and this museum is the reason we are coming.. If we have time we will do some other sight seeing but, it’s not the priority.
Any recommendations for a hotel near the museum that is in a safe area?
We have never been there so I have no clue about anything.. And reading about New Orleans is overwhelming to say the least.
We will have a car if that makes any difference.

Stay in the French Quarter and walk to the WWII Museum, that is what I did. Not much to do around that area once you are finished with the museum even if you stay there all day.
If your primary interest is the WW II Museum, I suggest the very popular Drury Inn, which is within relatively easy walking distance of both the Museum and French Quarter, right on the St Charles streetcar line to the Museum, French Quarter, and Garden District/Uptown, and is among restaurants and stores.
The French Quarter, more specifically Jackson Square, is the historical heart of the City, but I sense you are looking for a simpler experience, which Drury Inn offers.

The National WWII Museum has opened a $66.5 million lodging destination at its New Orleans campus. The 230-key Higgins Hotel New Orleans, Curio Collection by Hilton marks the debut of the upper-upscale Curio Collection brand in the State of Louisiana.
The National WWII Museumwhich opened its doors in 2000 as the National D-Day Museum before being designated by Congress as the countrys official World War II museum in 2003occupies six acres in downtown New Orleans. The eight-story Higgins carries the address of 1000 Magazine St. and joins a handful of other structures on the campus.

Architectural firm Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates designed the Art Deco-style building, which features four dining outlets, a rooftop bar and a state-of-the-art conference center facility totaling 18,000 square feet spanning the second floor. Kay Lang + Associates spearheaded The Higgins 1940s-themed interior design, which centers on the Second World War.
Hostmark Hospitality Group is handling management of The Higgins as well as the conference center. By completing the hotel, the National WWII Museum has made use of the last remaining undeveloped piece of land on its campus.

This month, the Crescent City welcomed a brand-new, retro-styled museum hotel.
The Higgins Hotel New Orleans, Curio Collection by Hilton introduces 230 rooms, four restaurants/bars, and 18,000 feet of meeting and event space to the Arts and Warehouse District. But its the hotels ties to The National WWII Museum that set the property apart from others.
The WWII Museum New Orleanss top attraction is a for-profit institution, with its survival partly dependent on private donations. The new Higgins Hotel, however, will serve as an extension of the museum, with all proceeds used to support the WWII Museums mission and programs for the long term.
The hotel is located on the same campus , and was designed to complement the museum experience through its architecture, décor, hotel names and amenities.
