My one compaint about the Intrepid Museum is that everything is extra.
Want to see the Space Shuttle? Extra and admission to the museum is not included in that ticket.
Want to go on the submarine? Extra.
I get that some things, like eating lunch, are always going to be extra but it borders on ridiculous how many times I had to reach for my VISA on this trip.
Bottom line: figure out what you want to do and pay for those things at the start. Then dont do the others.
How These Tickets Work
When you buy Intrepid Museum tickets at the venue, you get physical tickets .
However, we recommend you buy your tickets online, much in advance, to avoid the long queues at the ticket counters. Image: Dicasnovayork.com.br
During purchase, you must select a time and date for your visit.
Immediately after purchase, these tickets get emailed to you. There is no need to take a printout.
On the day of your visit, you must reach the museum within 30 minutes from your timeslot. You cannot enter beforehand.
Since you have already bought Intrepid Museum tickets online, you can skip the long lines at the ticket counter and head for the entrance.
At the musuems entrance, show the ticket you received in your email, and walk in.
Please bring a valid ID because you may have to show it along with your ticket.
Kids four years and below get in for free, and an adult must accompany all guests under the age of 16.

Priority Entry + Intrepid 101 Guided Tour
If you are traveling with kids ten years and above, this is a perfect option for you.
Besides priority Intrepid Museum entry, this ticket also includes a 60-minute guided tour of the attraction.
Visitors learn about the history of Intrepid and explore the hangar deck, where engineers maintained the aircraft and the flight deck, which launched numerous aircraft into war.
On weekdays the Intrepid tour starts at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm, and on weekends , they are scheduled for 11 am, 12 noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm.
Once you reach the Museum, you will get the timeslot for your guided tour.
The time slot is for the tour. You can visit the Museum whenever you want.
You may want to wear comfortable shoes because this tour requires a lot of walking and standing.

Besides priority access to Intrepid Museum, this ticket also gets you a memorable 4D Simulator Experience.
You wear 3D glasses and experience an eight-minute 4D movie featuring never-before-seen historical footage.
To get on this simulator and enjoy immersive stories of courage and heroism, visitors must be at least 40 inches tall.

If you only have one day to spend in New York City you have a major predicament on your hands. There is so much to do in the city that I couldn’t even begin to list everything to see and experience. There are world class museums, wonderful restaurants, Broadway shows, shopping, Central Park, Times Square, Little Italy and on and on it goes. It’s enough to make your head spin. We’ve done a number of day-trips into New York City over the years and each one has been a totally different experience. Our most recent trek was a long but very productive day.
If you live in southern New England the preferred way to get into NYC is from New Haven, Connecticut via the Metro North train. The station in New Haven is right off of the highway and has plenty of easy parking. From here it’s about two hours into Grand Central Station. We have driven into NYC in the past and it is rarely a pleasant experience not to mention the fees to park for the day. Do yourself a favor and take the train. Besides, coming into Grand Central Station is a destination in and of itself. It’s where our day in the city started and ended.

How Long Does Intrepid Museum Take
If your question is, how long does Intrepid Museum take? well, the answer is it depends on you.
If you are not travelling with kids and just want to look around and take photographs you can finish exploring the Intrepid Museum in two hours.
If you want to explore the Aircraft Carrier, the Space Shuttle Pavilion, the Submarine Growler, and the Concorde at the Intrepid Museum properly, you will need at least four hours.
If you spend a lot of time waiting in the queues, this duration may get extended. To avoid wasting time, buy Intrepid tickets in advance.
Tourists are known to spend 30 to 60 minutes at the food court, which offers a wide assortment of choices.
Tip: Wear comfortable shoes, as there will be a lot of walking.
Kids four years and younger can enter the Intrepid Museum for free.
Similarly, US military folks both active and veterans can enter the Museum for free.
However, they must show valid identification at the entrance.

Spouses of active military men and women also get a 20% discount on admission to the Museum.

Not to be overlooked on your visit is the fact that you are on an aircraft carrier. How cool is that? The Intrepid was commissioned in 1943 and saw action in World War II and Vietnam. You can actually go up to the bridge, which offers an interesting view down to the flight deck and the aircraft on display. Here you can also see the control rooms and the living quarters from where the officers ran the ship. There are plenty of museum staff here to answer any questions you may have and they will be happy to share the ships history with you.

When done in the tower don’t forget to go down to the Exploreum deck just below the Flight Deck where there are numerous displays and interactive exhibits. It’s like another entire museum down here and if you are bringing kids with you on your visit this is the place for them. There are even two flight simulators down here called the G-Force Encounter. There is a $9 fee or three for $24, which really isn’t too bad, but with a fairly long line we decided to skip the experience and headed out to see the British Airways Concorde.

Our trek into the heart of Manhattan took us through Times Square, which is always a sensory overload. I really don’t have much to add about Times Square. If you like crowds, traffic and bright lights then this is the place for you. I do not so we continued on our way.

Intrepid Museum Free Fridays
The Intrepid Museum also offers free admission on select Friday nights from 5 pm to 8 pm.
The last entry on Free Fridays is at 7.30 pm.
During these free entry Fridays, you get to explore the Intrepid Museum and enjoy various free after-hours programs.
Intrepid Museums Free Fridays for 2021 are yet to be announced due to the pandemic.

The Space Shuttle Exhibit Is Limited
Again I have mixed feelings about the Space Shuttle Exhibit.
On one hand it was extra money and since we didnt know this beforehand I had to trapse all the way through the museum to buy tickets which werent cheap. It was expensive and inconvenient and since it was 100 degrees I was a little crabby.
This didnt set me up to have a great experience. The exhibit itself was not as interactive as much of the museum and I was disappointed you couldnt get a closer look at the Space Shuttle.
On the other hand, the Space Shuttle is awesome. You basically walk around and under it and that should be boring. However, something about its size and existence is impressive.
It was very cool. If your child likes space I would definitely recommend this additional area.

Excellent Except For Recommended Parking Garage
The intrepid was a wonderful experience for my son and I. He was very interested in the all the different airplanes and helicopters. The museum and submarine were very interesting and interactive. My only disappointment was the parking garage that was recommended on the intrepid website. The garage on 51st told me they were going to charge me $36 to park in their lot. I parked there since it was the only thing available and it was getting late in the day. We stayed at the museum for 3 hours. When I returned to pick up my car, there was a sign outside the garage that said they would give patrons a discount with a paid admission ticket to the intrepid. The attendant told me there was no discount. When I told them it was false advertising he said that his boss refused to take the sign down. It was very disappointing and I felt I was taken advantage of after a nice afternoon at the museum. I would hope that the museum would read this review and remove this garage from their website. I’m sure they wouldn’t want to be associated with a business that takes advantage of their customers.

Occasionally, specific areas of the Museum close down maintenance, construction, or new exhibit development.

At the far end of the flight deck is the shuttle pavilion, which I might add requires a separate entrance fee. The first thing that struck me upon entering the pavilion was how big the Shuttle is. When you see them on television they somehow appear much smaller than they really are. Up close and in person they are huge. I must admit it is extremely impressive. The pavilion contains so much information on the shuttle program that you could easily spend a couple of hours just here. It was a fascinating chapter in our space program history and I encourage everyone to visit one of the shuttles that are located across the country in various museums.

In this simulator, you become one of the pilots on the aircraft carrier Intrepid.
This 8-minute film uses 4D technology, computer graphics, and historical footage to simulate the environment for you.
All you have to do is, put on the 3D glasses issued to you and become the pilot.
