We had a wild Late Night this past Friday, March 16, celebrating Maurice Sendaks classic childrens book and the Dallas Arts Districts Spring Block Party. Visitors transformed themselves into wild things in the Art Studio, took in a circus performance by Lone Star Circus in the Atrium, listened to author Laura Numeroff discuss her Jellybeans series, met animals from the Dallas Zoo, experienced many of Dallass food trucks on Harwood Street, and raced through the Museum to win the DMAzing Race. We even had our own Wild Thing roaming the Museums Concourse. What was your favorite wild event?

Outdoor Gala Revs Up Heat And Accelerates Past $4m For Perot Museum

On a chilly, windy Saturday night, Dallas partygoers bundled up and boogied outdoors at one of fall’s highest-wattage galas making its highly anticipated return.

The Perot Museum’s annual Night at the Museum benefit was transformed into a night outside the museum, which proved not only a safer way to bring it back, post-COVID, but a creative way to shake up the whole event. “Accelerate” was an appropriately forward-thinking theme for the November 13 party, chaired by Lindsay and George Billingsley, Karen and Alan Katz, and Talene and Hagop Kozanian.

Typically, the mega-gala features food, bars, entertainment, and science-y experiments on each floor of the museum. This year, the main party took place under a long pavilion-style tent set up in the parking lot. There, guests could eat, drink, mingle, and dance or make their way out to lounge seating around firepits and dozens of heat lamps.

To kick off the night, VIPs gathered on the museum plaza, where a few surprises waited. First, the big reveal that Jessica and Dirk Nowitzki will chair next year’s 10th anniversary event. Then, philanthropist Lyda Hill announced she was gifting the Perot $2 million on the spot, bringing the night’s fundraising total to “at least” $4 million, as there were plenty of ways big and small for patrons to give throughout the night.

Suddenly, fireworks shot off from the roof, and the party revved into high gear.

Perfect Night At The Museum

I visited the DMA on a Thursday night. To my surprise admission was free and even more exciting was the live jazz band that night. It was a busy night with students and art lovers wandering through. However, the main draw was the live jazz band. They were incredibly good and more than the art I was just drawn to the music! Many were enjoying drinks and listening in. I finally had to pry myself away and check out the exhibits. I was interested in seeing the Asian and African art since you usually don’t see those in most local museums. The museum itself is quite large with 4 floors of exhibits. It was too dark to check out the sculpture garden, but I’d like to return to see it sometime. Anyway, the exhibits were interestingmost notably the real mummy tomb that has the mummy’s feet exposed! Very nicely preserved. You could easily spend a few hours wandering. I hope to return and see more of the museum. Having the jazz music was a nice touch and probably would be a fun night with friends.

Date Night At The Museum

Night at the Museum Unique Wedding

Went with the girlfriend to one of the museums “adult nights” , which are on Friday nights during the Summer. We had never been before and we had a good time exploring the museum and interacting with some of the stations set up on each floor . In addition, there was also a cover band that played a few songs towards the end of the night. Also, the food there was actually pretty solid.Overall, the museum was nice, the environment was preferable, and we had a good time.

Has it really been ten years since the Perot Museum of Nature and Science changed the look of Dallas architecture and created a wondrous experience of science and nature? Well, indeed that landmark year is just months away and the Museums longtime and newbie fans have decided that such a decade deserves a year-long series of special events.

After all, since it opened its doors to a world of dinosaurs, crystals, out-of-this-world activities and STEM programs, the Museum has attracted a record 1.2M visitors a year, becoming a cherished community and civic institution.

To get the engines roaring, the Night at the Museum fundraiser will return after a year hiatus thanks to the pandemic. Taking place on Saturday, November 13, the night of fascination and fun will be co-chaired by Karen and Alan Katz, Lindsay and George Billingsley and Talene and Hagop Kozanian.

According to Co-Chair/Museum Board of Trustees Chair Karen, As the country emerges from the pandemic, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is committed to accelerate its impact by making STEM learning more accessible for all our youth, ultimately helping to build a diverse workforce of the future. Our goal is to actively reach all communities throughout North Texas, providing entry points for a lifetime of scientific discovery.

The event will take place on all of the Museums five levels with Wolfgang Puck Catering providing specialty cocktails and food stations.

Adler opened a new store in West Village last month. At 6,600 square feet, its his largest store yet. After 25 years, I still feel like a total ingenue, he told the FGI Dallas crowd. Every day, I charge into my studio with a burning desire to make new pots, to design new chairs, to imagine new interiors. When Im designing things and creating things, the Mishigas of running a business disappears, time stands still, and I feel like my true authentic self.

FGI Dallas is part of Fashion Group International, a global nonprofit with more than 6,000 members representing all areas of the fashion industry, including art, beauty, and design. Past FGI Dallas honorees include Zac Posen, Monique Lhuillier, Angela Missoni, Billy Reid, Prabal Gurung, and Bob Mackie.

Perot Family Gifts $5 Million To Expand Childrens Area At Klyde Warren Park

Perot

From the day Klyde Warren Park opened in October 2012, Jody and Shelia Grant knew the childrens area in the urban green space they championed was too small. Now, thanks to a $5 million donation from Margot Perot and her family, its going to grow.

The couple began pushing for the park back in 2004. There were a lot of naysayers at first, but the Grants are persuasive, and they built a coalition to make the park a reality. They also are spearheading an expansion thats scheduled to wrap up in 2024.

Thanks to the Perot gift, the couples legacy will be enshrined with the naming of the Sheila and Jody Grant Childrens Park. Without them, there would simply be no Klyde Warren Park, Perot said. This gift honors their courage and commitment.

Along with taking the area from 12,000 to 18,000 square feet, the improvements include the addition of a climbing tower, climbing wall, balance and spinning elements, an additional water feature, and a shaded picnic area for birthday parties and other gatherings. A new play surface will be installed throughout, and restrooms and landscaping will be updated.

The improvements are designed to appeal to older children, said Sheila Grant. Jody and I underestimated how important a childrens park would be in downtown Dallas, she said. But kids have come from every area of the region.

The event was chaired by Cintia and Johnny Powers, who have been involved with the organization for more than 10 years.

Silent auction items, including an African safari, helicopter adventure, and a Cowboys helmet signed by Dak Prescott, helped raise nearly $2 million dollarsand fun close to 400 scholarships for spouses and children of fallen and disabled service members.

Folds of Honor was founded in 2007 by Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney, a PGA Professional and F-16 fighter pilot in the Air Force Reserves who served three tours of duty in Iraq. Since its start, it has awarded about 35,000 scholarships.
