Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum Plans Caboose Night

The Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum (Wheeling)

    JOSELYN KING

    Staff Writer

WHEELING Local children are invited to come gather at the caboose outside the Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum for an event next month.

Caboose Night at the museum is set for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6.

As far as I know, nobody else as far away as Washington, Pennsylvania or Pittsburgh does anything like this. Were pretty unique, said Lynn Macguire, manager at the museum.

Scheduled activities begin with the children forming a human chain train for a trip around the museum building. They will learn about train whistles, and the signals for stop and go, Maguire said.

They will also go inside the caboose outside the museum to hear stories about the caboose and its history.

Then the children will gather to listen to an interactive reading of a story about a train, and they will be asked to make the train noises as the story progresses.

There will also be a railroad song sing-a-long.

Maguire said she plans to dress up for the event.

Those wanting to attend the event should contact the museum at 304-242-8133 to pre-purchase tickets.

The number of participants is being limited due to COVID concerns.

It is definitely recommended to buy the tickets before the event, Maquire said. With COVID we have to be careful.

Most of what we are doing is outdoors, so it is not such a big deal, she said.

The museum, located at 144 Kruger St. in Elm Grove, is open daily 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. from Memorial Day until Dec. 30.

Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum

If you love Nostalgic toys and the kids love trains and race cars, Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum is a blast. We visited last year and last month and Hannah loved watching all the large full scale model train sets. It is located in Wheeling, WV only about 1 1/2 hour drive, same as to Cleveland or Pittsburgh. They are only minutes from Toy and Brick Museum which is a large Lego museum. Ill bump up the post so you can see in Bellaire, OH. This museum is an old abandoned school house with two floors of different themed rooms of toys, trains and yes even a knex display room. The displays are interactive as well as the togs that are out you can play with. They have a large racing car track room you can race with. On the way out they have a row of pinball machines you can play with for free, they have a jar out if you want to leave a donation, which we do. They also have a gift shop. Its $10 for adults and $5 for kids 4& 17 and under 3 is free. Worth the drive.
