Titanic Isidor Straus Watch Fob Locket On Display

Titanic Pigeon Forge Video Tour

Titanic First Class Passenger Isidor Straus Watch FOB Locket to be on exclusive display, valued at $250,000, at the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Great-Great Grandson to present this amazingArtifact to the Titanic Museum in Pigeon ForgePublic has not seen this Watch Fob* Locket since 1912.

Privately held, one of Titanics most important and emotionally charged artifacts ever recovered is the watch fob locket belonging to famed New York merchandizer and co-owner of Macys Department Store, Isidor Straus. His story is one of legend, and were excited to tell it while in the presence of his most personal possession, says Mary Kellogg Joslyn, COO/Co-owner of the Titanic Museum Attractions in Pigeon Forge, TN and Branson, MO.

The locket was found tucked in the marketing moguls vest pocket when he was pulled, lifeless, from the sea. It has remained in the possession of Straus family descendants ever since, never to be seen by the public until now, explains Kellogg-Joslyn.

To me, this beautiful Titanic artifact is important because it was witness to one of maritime historys greatest disasters and one of its greatest love stories, as well. Isidor and his beloved wife, Ida, were inseparable in life and in death. When she was given the chance to board a lifeboat and save herself, she refused to go without Isidor, saying, We have lived together for many years. Where you go, I go.

The Rms Titanic And Her Tragic Sinking

The RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner and her maiden voyage was from Southampton to New York City. She had an estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard when she struck the iceberg. Over 1,500 people perished in what remains the deadliest peacetime sinking of a superlinear or cruise ship.

  • Passengers: 2,224 Passengers

Adding to her fame, at the time of her sinking she was the largest ship afloat and was one of three Olympic class ocean liners. Her chief naval architect was Thomas Andrews – he too perished in her sinking.

  • Captain: Captain Edward Smith

While much is made of the fact that the RMS Titanic did not have enough lifeboats for her passengers, this was industry standard at the time. In fact, she had advanced safety features for her time – she featured watertight compartments and remotely operated watertight doors.

The Titanic had a total of sixteen watertight compartments and she was designed so that four could be ruptured and continue to float. However, unfortunately, in her collision with the iceberg five were ripped open.

Titanique The Musical Review: Off

Even Titanic fans are getting downed by icebergs.

Three visitors to the worlds largest Titanic museum in Tennessee have been hospitalized after an iceberg wall collapsed, the owners said.

Tonight, an accident occurred at our Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, wrote Mary Kellogg Joslyn and her husband John about their museum about 30 miles outside Knoxville.

Our iceberg wall collapsed and injured 3 guests who were taken to the hospital. At this time, we do not know the extent of their injuries, the owners wrote late Monday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who were injured, as well as their family and friends, the Facebook post said.

The museum which has been in Pigeon Forge since 2010 was closed after the accident, the owners said.

Needless to say, we never would have expected an incident like this to occur as the safety of our guests and crew members are always top of mind, they said.

We take pride in the quality of our maintenance and have measures in place to ensure that appropriate safety guidelines are upheld, they said.

It was not immediately clear how the wall collapsed. The museums website says it has more than 400 artifacts from doomed RMS Titanic, which sank during its maiden voyage from the UK to New York in 1912.

The museum says that visitors get to touch a real iceberg and reach their hands into 28-degree water as they learn what it was like on the RMS Titanic by experiencing it first-hand.
