Heard Natural Science Museum’s History
In short, Miss Bessies greatest contribution to her community and North Texas is the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary.
Consequently, Miss Heard was 80 years old when she saw the need to preserve a place where future generations could visit to experience nature.
After that, the museum opened October 1, 1967 and now serves more than 100,000 visitors annually.
What To Expect At The Heard Museum Indian Art Market
The fair is a juried competition where artists submit their work in various categories. According to Erin Joyce, creative and marketing director and fine arts curator at the Heard Museum, curators and scholars from Arizona State University, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and other entities will take part in the judging.
More than $97,000 in prize money will be awarded across 10 categories. The Best of Show winner will receive $25,000. All art that receives an award during competition will be on display at the Best of Show reception on March 4.
Visitors can purchase tickets to the reception for $100. The reception will include food, drinks, performances and a preview of the winners.

The Heard Museum is focused on American Indian art with exhibitions of traditional and contemporary art by American Indian artists and artists influenced by American Indian art.
The Museum presents the stories of American Indian people and collaborates with American Indian artists and tribal communities to provide a unique perspective about the art of the Native peoples.
The mission of the Heard Museum is to be:
the worlds preeminent museum for the presentation, interpretation, and advancement of American Indian art, emphasizing its intersection with broader artistic and cultural themes.
The Heard Museum was founded in 1929 with most of its initial collection from the La Ciudad Indian archaeological site. The current collection of the Museum consists of over 40,000 items, including a library and archives with over 34,000 volumes.
The Museum facility provides ample gallery space, classroom, and performance space and is recognized for the quality of its collections, its educational programming and its festivals.
The Heard is an affiliate in the Smithsonian Affiliations program and a member of the North American Reciprocal Museums program.
The Heard also hosts the World Championship Hoop Dance Contest and the Indian Fair and Market, a juried art fair and festival.

Arizona Pbs Partnering With The Heard Museum To Host Free Molly Of Denali Event
Arizona PBS and The Heard Museum are collaborating to bring Molly Mabray, the title character from the popular PBS Kids series, Molly of Denali, to the museum for a free event on Saturday, Aug. 27. Taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event represents Mollys first official appearance in the state of Arizona.
At Arizona PBS, we recognize the importance of representation in media, and were proud to broadcast such a trailblazing kids program like Molly of Denali, that continues to break new ground for its representation of an Indigenous community, said Arizona PBS General Manager Adrienne R. Fairwell. Im thankful to The Heard Museum for their collaboration on what promises to be a great event for the many local families that have become fans of this fictional Alaskan vlogger.
The first nationally distributed childrens show to feature a Native American lead character, Molly of Denali is created by a group of Indigenous actors, screenwriters, producers, production teams, advisers and even Alaska Native children, who are featured in the shows live-action sequences.

Special events, programs, and festivals are held often at the Heard Museum. Native art and culture can be experienced at signature events like the Heard Museum Spanish Market, the annual Indian Fair & Market, and the World Championship Hoop Dance Contest.
In addition to these larger community events, the Heard Museum offers a wide range of programsartist demonstrations, performances, book signings, gallery talks, public tours, lectures, and workshops. All can be found on the museum calendar, which is constantly being updated with new events.
