Individual tickets go on sale Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. However, members will have the opportunity to get tickets early with a presale that’s scheduled from June 10-24. According to the Denver Art Museum, members can expect more information about the presale to arrive in the mail soon.

This exhibit will be open to the public from October 21, 2019, to February 2, 2020.

According to the museum’s website, this will be one of the “most comprehensive” displays of his work in the United States. While the exhibit is touring across the United States between 2019 to 2020, the Denver exhibition will be the largest and have the most educational and insightful material. The full presentation, named “Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature,” will display over 125 pieces of his work.

Monet was considered one of the founders of the impressionist style of painting, and his artistic belief was that people should be able to express their perceptions before nature. He wanted to make sure people understood that everyone’s view of the natural world was different and unique to that individual person.

View about 85 artworks from the museums collection by Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Édouard Manet, Willard Leroy Metcalf, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Childe Hassam, and others that tell a story about one of the most important times in art history.

The 1800s were a pivotal time in Europe and America, marked by incredible change and upheaval. Complex and contradictory, these 100 years witnessed the tension of opposing forces. The industrial revolution happened alongside the exaltation of unspoiled nature political revolutions alternated with the restoration of conservative regimes and in art, the century began with a craze for antiquities and ended with a march toward abstraction, a shift so groundbreaking that there is hardly any comparison with centuries past.

The 19th Century in European and American Art features mostly French paintings and, in particular, landscapes. This is not accidental, as Paris, the capital of France, became the art center of the Western world during the 1800s, and landscape, once considered among the least prestigious genres in painting for its lack of moral content, flourished as one of the most expressive and collected subjects.

Waterlilies and Japanese Bridge,

Spanning Monets entire career, the exhibition will thematically and chronologically explore the artists lifelong interest in nature and the places he traveled. It will examine the shift in Monets style when he started focusing on series of the same subject, as well as his abandonment of the human presence in his landscapes.

Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature is the latest in a growing series of special exhibitionsworld premieres, U.S. and world exclusives and U.S. debutsoriginated by the DAM, including Becoming Van Gogh , Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century , Women of Abstract Expressionism and Dior: From Paris to the World .

After nearly three years of planning this monumental exhibition and securing loans from around the world, were thrilled to provide a new perspective on such a beloved artist, said Christoph Heinrich, Frederick and Jan Mayer Director of the DAM. Learn About The Exhibit Basics

Its a very big deal.

With more than 120 paintings covering Monets entire art life, its the most comprehensive exhibit of his work shown in the U.S. in more than two decades. Denver will be the only U.S. city to host it. After it closes in Denver, Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature will travel to the Museum Barberini in Potsdam, Germany, which co-organized it.

The DAM already has some Monet pieces of its own, but contributions are of course coming in from all over the world. Among the lenders are the Musée dOrsay, Paris Musée Marmottan Monet, Paris Museum of Fine Arts, Boston The Art Institute of Chicago and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Heres what the exhibit will explore, per the DAM:

Waterlilies Or The Water Lily Pond

Born: Paris, France

The most widely known French Impressionist, Claude Monet was born in Paris and grew up on the Normandy coast. His father was a wholesale grocer, and after his mother died when he was 17, an aunt encouraged Monet in his efforts to become an artist. With a local reputation as a caricaturist, he attracted the interest of landscape painter Eugene Boudin , who introduced Monet to plein-airpainting. Pleinair is French for open air andrefers to paintings created outdoors.

In the 1860s, Monet joined a group of young artists who began to challenge the rules for how good paintings were made. These young artists had so much trouble getting their work exhibited that they created their own independent exhibition, which yielded only ridicule and a sarcastic label. That labelderived from Monets painting, Impression, Sunrise of 1874stuck, and the group of artists became known as the Impressionists. Impressionists were initially criticized for their unworthy subjects, unrealistic colors, garish color combinations, and loose, seemingly unfinished brushwork.
