The Out of School Time Program Coordinator will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of all programming and services for K-12 out of school time programs at the Indiana State Museum and assist with teaching school and youth programs and events. Primary focus will be on building and maintaining out of school time collaborations.

OVERVIEW:
The Information Coordinator for the Interpretation department is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the Directors of Interpretation and associated staff in the Interpretation department for the Childrens Museum of Indianapolis. The IC organizes and schedules meetings, orders supplies, routes documents, creates and updates reports as well as monitors interpretation schedules. The incumbent prepares correspondence, proposals, and reports for internal and external audiences. Coordinates travel arrangements for department staff. The IC maintains sound knowledge of museums operational policies and serves as resource to staff in answering questions. At the direction of the Directors, the IC may be asked to fill in gaps in the schedule by personally interpreting on the floor, as needed.

David Levine alleges that his former employer, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Inc., violated his rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, 29 U.S.C. § 2601 et seq., and fired him in retaliation for exercising those rights. Levine managed the Museum’s on-site planetarium. Levine suffers from gastroesophageal reflux disease. The Museum terminated Levine’s employment after he went home early because of a flare-up of his condition, leaving a teen-age employee alone to supervise several young museum volunteers who later got into a fight.
The Museum has moved for summary judgment on Levine’s claims. As explained below, the court grants the defendant’s motion. Levine has not produced evidence that tends to show he suffered from a “serious health condition” within the meaning of the FMLA. In addition, as a matter of law, Levine did not put the Museum on notice that his absence was of a nature that might trigger the FMLA’s protections.

Childrens Museum of Indianapolis is a huge collections-based museum focused on helping families learn together! Were the largest childrens museum in the world. Im one of two exhibit developers in a larger department we call experience production. Our museum has all kinds of exhibits, from science to humanities and permanent to travelers, so were very jack-of-all-trades in exhibit development.
What is your biggest accomplishment in your job? Biggest single accomplishment? I had to take over a large semi-permanent exhibit project from another developer halfway through the process. I knew absolutely zero about the subject matter, and had to get up to speed and start writing labels and prototyping interactives on a super-tight timeline. But it worked out, and I love the final productthats the real accomplishment, when you can go in a gallery youve just finished and think hey, this is fun! instead of I am so sick of this topic
What is your favorite part of your job?
Best advice you ever received from a museum professional.
Be ready to jump in and help out. Be flexible. The words thats not my job shouldnt ever be part of your vocabularymuseum exhibits, like theatrical productions, are always a huge team effort. Just because Im the one writing the labels doesnt mean I shouldnt be pitching in to help paint/clean/schlep stuff around when were on a deadline.
