Children’s Museum In Oak Lawn

Chicago Ridge Public Library provides a family pass to the Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn for Chicago Ridge Public Library cardholders to check out. The pass can be checked out for a 3 day checkout on a first come, first served basis. The pass is for general admission for parents/caretakers and the children in the household up to 4 guests. The overdue fee is $10 per day until returned.

How To Get A Museum Pass

1. Batavia Public Library cardholders must present their Batavia Library card at the Youth Services Desk to check out a pass.

2. A patron may select a Museum Adventure Pass. Please note:

• A limited number of passes are available
• Passes are checked out on a first-come-first-served basis. NO HOLDS, NO CALL-INS TO RESERVE
• One museum pass may be checked out per family, per 7-day loan period

3. Youth Services staff will print your museum pass.

4. Bring printed Museum Adventure Pass to the Museum.

• Passes are good for 7 days and expire after the date printed on the pass.
• Passes may not be renewed
• Passes are for one-time use and are not transferable. Your name will be printed on the pass.
• Bring your Batavia Library card and a photo ID, you may be asked to show ID at the museum.

Spend Some Time At Youmedia

Kids in grades 6-12 will love spending time at the librarys YOUmedia stations. With specific locations for middle school and high school grades, the library has created a interactive media wonderland for kids!

In YOUmedia, youll find laptops, cameras, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, music equipment, gaming equipment and more. You can choose what to do with the resources that are available to you. Mentors are available to supervise and assist when using cameras, in-house production equipment, drawing tablets, lighting equipment and 3D printers. Using the equipment requires a library card but is absolutely free!

If youre a high school student, you can even book the production studio at the YOUmedia center on the first floor of the Harold Washington Library Center once youve completed three workshops.

• Kids Museum Passports are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Passes cannot be placed on hold.
• You can check out one Kids Museum Passport per loan period. The loan period for passes is one week.
• Only one Kids Museum Passport per household may be checked out at a time.
• There is a 24-hour waiting period after returning a Kids Museum Passport before another pass for the same museum may be checked out by any member of the same family.

• Museum passes may not be renewed because of high demand.
• A Kids Museum Passport must be returned to the circulation desk of the CPL location where it was checked out.
• The overdue fine for Kids Museum Passports is $2 a day, with a maximum overdue fine of $20.
• The charge for a lost Kids Museum Passport is $60, plus any overdue fines.

Since September 2009, Evanston Public Library card holders have been able to receive free or discounted admission to 17 exciting suburban museums and cultural institutions throughout the Chicagoland area. Brookfield Zoo, the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Oriental Institute, Bronzeville Childrens Museum and Evanstons own Mitchell Museum of the American Indian are among those included. You will need to visit the library to pick up a one-week pass for the museum of your choice. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. How To Get A Library Card And Start Saving

Go to the nearest library with an Illinois driver’s license or photo ID with your current address. Or, you can use an ID and a personal check phone, gas, electric or cable bill, any mail postmarked within the past 30 days or a voter registration card. You can also get an eCard by filling out this form. A CPL eCard grants access to online materials only, however.

You Can Get Cpl Perks Even If You Dont Live In Chicago

Live in the suburbs?

As long as you live in one of the surrounding suburbs, including as far north as Zion and as far south as Kankakee, odds are your local branch is a reciprocal library with Chicagos library system. Members of reciprocal libraries can check out books, DVDs and many other items and have access to Zinio magazines, though they cannot check out Kids Museum Passports or internet hot spots. Reciprocal library members also cant use OverDrive, OneClickdigital or Hoopla.

Own property in Chicago but don’t live here?

No worries. Youre eligible for a CPL card and full library privileges.

Visiting from out-of-state?

Youre eligible to check out materials, too! The only catch is youll need to fill out an application and throw down a deposit equal in value to the item you check out. Youll also need to have a valid ID and another form of identification that verifies your address.

The museum will reopen February 11, 2021. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Monday. 10AM-11AM is Members only. General public hours are 11AM-6PM. Monet and Chicago exhibition extended.

COTC note: When the museum reopened in June, 2020 the majority of visitors were arriving within the first two hours of the day. Please consider visiting later in the day to avoid busier galleries and longer exhibition wait times. Free day used to be on Wednesday 5-8PM. Also all the benches have been removed so if youre looking for somewhere to rest after walking and standing for hours youre out of luck.

Admission to the Art Institute of Chicago is free to Children ages 14-17, who are residents of the City of Chicago, are free on all days with a school ID, drivers license, report card or other document indicating that they are a resident of the City of Chicago. All children under age 14 are always free.

When you go on free evenings always check the AIC Calendar as they usually have lectures open to the general public.
