Texas Air Museum At Stinson Field

San Antonio, known as Military City, USA, is home to one of the largest military bases in the country and is often considered the birthplace of American military aviation. The Texas Air Museum pays tribute to this history with a collection of vintage aircraft located at Stinson Field, the second oldest airport in the nation, which is still used as a control tower today.

The volunteer-staffed museum exhibits focus on the citys role in developing military air power and the story behind the air fields namesake the Stinson family, who trained World War I pilots.

Ripleys Believe It Or Not

Just across North Alamo Street from the Alamo itself is Ripleys Believe It or Not, a museum franchise that originally started as a newspaper feature. The first permanent museum was opened in Florida, but the one in San Antonio is definitely worth visiting with the whole family. The collection fills up three floors with some of the many strange artifacts Ripley gathered together over the years, including authentic shrunken heads. Ripleys is partners with the wax museum next door, but a ticket for the museum costs $22 for adults and $14 for kids. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. most days.

The former Lone Star Brewery complex now houses the most comprehensive collection of ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian art in the southern U.S. On the first Tuesday and Thursday of each month, the San Antonio Museum of Art hosts an Art Crawl program for infants geared to connect sensory development and artwork. Play Street Museum is a place that imitates a city for children to interact with. Visitors to the San Antonio Fire Museum will view ancient fire vehicles and firefighting equipment, as well as items from the mid-nineteenth century and carefully archived documents and photos. San Antonio Museum Of Science & Technology

STEM education is the focus of this interactive museum and education center housed in two buildings in Port San Antonio. The San Antonio Museum of Science & Technology contains the personal collection of curator and founder David Monroe along with donated items, including the first personal computer and Thomas Edison lightbulbs. But one of the main highlights of the museum are the Tesla coil demonstrations which shouldn’t be missed.

The DoSeum: a state-of-the-art, world-class children’s museum in San Antonio, Texas

Originally named as San Antonio Childrens Museum, The DoSeum attracts children of all ages, with parents accompanying them, for some educational fun. Exhibits, programs, and even field trips will encourage kids to learn or discover science, technology, engineering, mathematics, arts, and literacy. Exhibits include Sensations Studio where children can play with lights and sounds, Little Town that simulates a city for children, and Spy Academy that teach kids intelligence through missions.

The Northeast Texas Childrens Museum provides opportunities for a playful and creative learning experience. The Museums hands-on exhibits and planned activities serve to enhance and supplement classroom curriculum.

Since beginning in 2002, the Northeast Texas Childrens Museum has invested in providing hands-on, minds-on opportunities for children.

The summer is a busy time at the Northeast Texas Childrens Museum. More than 6,000 people visit the museum over the summer. Each year new exhibits are added thanks to the donations of local businesses. Exhibits are also provided by national corporations who fund science and math programs.

A new drive-through bank has just arrived at the Childrens Museum. Cypress Bank is opening a new branch at the Museum. Children will be able to deposit money by a play car. We thank Cypress Bank and look forward to this exciting new exhibit. The museum offers activities for children and adults that include preschool programs, educational programs, special events and fund-raisers.

Throughout the year, the Northeast Texas Childrens Museum offers special events, activities and summer camps.

Official Best Of recently recognized the Northeast Texas Childrens Museum as the Best Creative Childrens Experience in Texas.
