“Loved, loved, loved our stay here. We came to Mystic in February and this hotel was so cozy, welcoming, and gorgeous, we basically never wanted to leave. The front desk staff was professional and also FRIENDLY . When I forgot a toiletry, I texted and they brought me a replacement in less than five minutes. The bed was so soft. We had a Junior suite so my son slept in the cutest little bunk-bed nook. We slept like rocks because it was silent. I’m not sure if we will be back to Mystic, but if we do, I will certainly stay here again.”

    Town Approves Hotel Project

    • 10:41 am

The Town of Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission approved the proposed Delamar hotel at a special meeting March 3. The decision paved the way for the demolition of Latitude 41° Restaurant and the construction of a new boutique hotel and restaurant.

The three-story, 27-room boutique hotel and restaurant, to be called the Delamar Mystic, will be located further back on the property closer to the Mystic River. The space now occupied by Latitude 41° will be converted to a circular driveway with valet parking. Architect Bruce Beinfield of Norwalk, CT, who cited the areas grand beach hotels of the 19th century as his inspiration, designed the building.

The developer for the project is Greenwich Hospitality Group, which will lease the property from the Museum. The companys founder and chief operating officer is Charles Mallory, who was a longtime trustee of the Museum. Greenwich Hospitality Group operates Delamar hotels in Greenwich, Southport, and West Hartford.

The Museum built the Latitude building in the mid-1960s as a restaurant. In addition to issues associated with the structures age, it suffers from regular flooding and it was determined the best course forward would be to replace the building and not renovate it.

Plans call for Latitude 41° to be razed in early 2021 followed by a groundbreaking for the hotel. Construction will continue into 2022.

What To Pack For A Visit To Connecticut

Here are a few things you might want to pack with you to enjoy the state:

    • Comfortable Walking Shoes: Youll be doing a lot of walking around town, so make sure you pack comfortable walking shoes. Ive been wearing Brooks brand shoes for years and have loved them. Ive linked them here for women, and here for men.
    • Power Bank: We always keep a fully-charged power bank with us while were out exploring. That way, if our phone battery is running low, we can easily plug it in and re-charge on the go. We rely on our phones heavily for navigation and photography, so this product is a must for us.
    • Water Bottle: We prefer to bring an insulated re-usable water bottle when we are out exploring.
    • Travel Guides: When I moved to Connecticut, I brought a travel guide and it gave me so many ideas for weekend adventures. It also provided good historical background to the places I visited. Ive linked a couple below.
