Science is made FUN at the Museum Of Science and Technology in Syracuse, where kids can discover, learn & play across 35,000 sq ft of exhibits, immense IMAX films, out of this world planetarium shows and hands-on educational activities!

All of the exhibits at this popular museum allow kids to discover and learn something new.

Stand out features include the Science Playhouse which looks like a kooky soft play adventure but actually offers significant scientific principles which can be learnt through play.

The Earth Science Discovery Cave allows kids to understand our planet and galaxy through understanding out own planet! Kids can learn about plate tectonics, how caves are formed, and how climate change affects us. Its a convincing life sized recreation for geological epxloration, including a Coral Reef Adventure tank, fossil pit and volcano walk.

Experience physics as you test your strength and coordination with the rock climbing wall, or learn all the inner workings of the HUBBLE telescope!

The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology is a science and technology museum located in the Armory Square neighborhood of DowntownSyracuse, New York. The Museum includes 35,000 square feet of permanent and traveling exhibits, Science Shop, and several programs and events. The MOST is located in the former Syracuse Armory.

Permanent exhibits include: Innovation Station, Dino Zone!, Earth Science Discovery Cave, Upstate Medical University Life Sciences, Lockheed Martin Flight & Space, Science Playhouse, Technotown, National Grid Energy: Powering Our Future, Climbing Wall and Ham Radio Station.

The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology is located at 500 South Franklin Street in Syracuse, New York. The Museum was established to provide the opportunity for people of all ages to learn about science and technology in a hands-on and entertaining environment.

The philosophy of the Museum is to promote science and technology in a fun, state of the art, and interactive way. The Museum has a diverse number of exhibits, science demonstrations, workshops, classes, activities, planetarium shows, and the Bristol IMAX Omnitheater.

The activities and exhibits at the Museum include the Life Sciences exhibits, the Discovery Cave, the Science Playhouse, Technotown, the Telecommunications Lab, and the Planetarium.

The Life Sciences interactive exhibits are designed to explore and appreciate the intricacy of the human body and learn about its organ systems. For example, visitors can walk through the huge human heart model to learn about the heart’s chambers and arteries, or they can explore the human brain replica to find out about its speed and capacity to retain information. Amongst the other exhibits are the central nervous and respiratory systems.

The Planetarium accommodates up to 50 people and its shows mainly focus on stars and constellations. The shows at the planetarium are live and visitors are encouraged to ask questions. The length of the show is approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Visitors or groups interested in longer shows are to contact the Museum.

Museum Of Science And Technology In Syracuse Closes In State Shutdown

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuses science museum announced Monday it was closed during the states coronavirus shutdown.

The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology sent an email to members and others in the community Monday afternoon stating the museum was closed to the public effective immediately due to COVID-19.

The MOST is projected to re-open April 1. However, that date could change.

We will evaluate and consult our re-opening with city and county officials to ensure the safety of our visitors and staff, the email read. The MOSTs closing is to protect and enforce safe distancing during the Onondaga County State of Emergency.

The MOST will offer online STEM education programming and tutoring support on its website and on its social media accounts during the state of emergency.

As a science-based organization, we believe we are taking every measure necessary to keep our community safe and will continue to make decisions through the Onondaga County Health Department, New York State Department of Health, and CDC to ensure the ultimate safety of our visitors and staff, the museum staff said.

Where It All Began

The MOST began in a small storefront in downtown Syracuse in 1981. It was originally called The Discovery Center of Science. As the first hands-on science museum in upstate New York, its popularity skyrocketed. So, in 1992, the museum relocated to the former Syracuse Armory and was renamed the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology.

Today, they operate 35,000 square feet of exhibit space. They are also home to the only domed IMAX® theater in New York State, and you can see movies there Wednesday through Sunday. Theres also the Silverman Planetarium, where a variety of guided presentations are offered Wednesday through Sunday.

Visit Museum Of Science And Technology

Its not uncommon to see adults having even more fun than kids at Syracuses Museum of Science and Technology, often referred to as MOST. Dinosaur bones are only the beginning, as the museum offers countless opportunities to learn and play. Visit this huge castle-like building that dominates Armory Square. It is the perfect family destination on one of Syracuses frosty winter days.

Shoot up into the sky in the realistic flight simulator that will make you feel like a flying ace or shoot hoops in the virtual reality basketball exhibit.

If it is open, dont miss the Rothschild Apothecary Shop, a recreation of a turn-of-the-century pharmacy staffed by friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. Try to guess which now-illegal drugs were prescribed for what maladies a hundred years ago.

Walk through the enormous replica of a beating heart. Be awed by the Guinness World Record-holding toothpick display, where a local Syracuse man has built models of the worlds tallest buildings out of nothing but toothpicks and glue, all at 1/164 size.

Watch a movie at a domed IMAX theater, where films displaying the beauty of nature are projected. Study the stars during one of the planetarium shows.

Help your kids burn off some energy and learn about basic physics in the museums enormous Science Playhouse, which features a climbing wall and giant foam pieces for kids to use as building blocks.

Relax by bringing picnic food and having a snack as your kids teach you about all theyve learned.
