The California Palace of the Legion of Honor, was completed in 1924 as a gift to the city of San Francisco by arts patron Alma de Bretteville Spreckels. The two institutions draw more than 1.6 million visitors a year, have a permanent art collection valued at more than $1 billion, and operate under a public-private partnership with the city of San Francisco.
