The aquarium boasts an exhibit of 16 saltwater tanks that display marine life that is mainly provided by the aquarium staff themselves by catching the different species off the coast of Georgia.

Dare To Explore Bonaventure Cemetery
Bonaventure Cemetery sits on the historically significant site of the Bonaventure Plantation. The cemetery features ornate tombs and mausoleums as well as many gravestones.
The cemetery is the final resting place of notable people, including Johnny Mercer and Conrad Aiken. Bonaventure Cemetery was also featured in the Savannah-based novel Midnight Garden of Good and Evil.

Oatland Island Wildlife Center
Although not free , The Oatland Island Wildlife Center of Savannah is home to more than 150 animals from 50 different species. The animals are exhibited in large natural habitats along a rustic trail through forest and marsh lands. The Wolf Wilderness exhibit features gray wolves, armadillos, flying squirrels, screech owls and a selection of reptiles. Along the trail are cougars, bobcats, bison, alligators, red fox and birds of prey. Cows, sheep, goats and rabbits can be viewed in the Georgia Farm area. The center is a unit of the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education and is open daily from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. The center is located 5 miles east of Historic Downtown Savannah on President Street .

River Street And Factors Row
RIVER STREET
To be transported back in time, simply look beneath your feet. The cobblestones used to pave the street itself and the ramps connecting Bay Street to River Street were initially brought to Savannah as ballast. The stones were loaded aboard ships on distant shores hundreds of years ago as place-holders for the bales of cotton that would fill the ships hold on the return voyage. These stones, brought here from all over the world, were usually just tossed overboard, and for years during the citys early days they simply sat in huge piles along the riverbanks. By the mid-1800s, city engineers had devised plans to use the stones to pave the streets and build retaining walls to prevent erosion of the white sand that covered the riverfront.
FACTORS ROW OR FACTORS WALK
The large brick buildings that rise two and three stories above the riverfront now house many of the businesses that attract visitors to River Street. What many people dont realize is that these buildings were initially large cotton warehouses, with offices for the cotton brokers or factors taking up the upper levels along Bay Street in an area known as Factors Row, with a series of iron walkways connecting these offices to the warehouses that lined the wharf. This series of iron bridges, walkways and staircases is known as the Factors Walk. Factors were the cotton brokers who set prices worldwide.

Telfair Square might as well be called Savannahs art block, with two world-class art museums adjacent to each other on two of the Squares four sides. The Jepson Center for the Arts, one of the three Telfair Museums in Savannah, houses a stunning collection of modern art and rotating exhibitions featuring some of the art worlds most notable names. Over 7,500 square feet of glistening gallery space greets both museum guests young and young at heart.
Visit Historic Religious Sites
Savannah is known for some of the oldest and most historic religious sites in the South. Visit the First African Baptist Church, home to the oldest black congregation in North America. From there, head to the Second African Baptist Church, made famous for the forty acres and a mule proclamation. The Congregation Mickve Israel is the third oldest Jewish congregation in America and the only Gothic-style synagogue in North America. Finally, a trip to Savannah is not complete without a visit to the Sistine of the South, the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist – one of the most photographed landmarks in Savannah.

Stroll Down River Street
River Street is a cobblestoned street closest to the Savannah River. It is lined with shops, restaurants, and sculptures throughout its entire length. This street is undoubtedly our favorite place to visit whenever we go. The food options are amazing, theres plenty of shops to browse in and maybe get a souvenir, and photo ops aplenty.
The newest area of River Street is the Riverside District. What looks like an old industrial plant has been changed into an upscale hotel and with it, upscale shops and fountains galore. When we visited during the holiday season, there was even Christmas markets by the riverfront in this area!
One can have a great view of the Talmadge Memorial Bridge from the Riverside District area, which connects Savannah to Hutchinson Island.
See the waving girl statue, as well as so many other sculptures and structures that make for good photo ops along the way. Walking down River Street is our absolute favorite free thing to do in Savannah.

Tour The Historic Churches
It’s impossible to walk around Savannah without noticing the church steeples. The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is the most well-known with its stained glass windows and white exterior. They have free self-guided tours most days of the week, but they also accept donations. Independent Presbyterian, which we just mentioned, was re-built in 1891 after a devastating fire. Christ Church on Bull Street was built in 1733, making it the first house of worship in the state. The Historic First African Baptist Church opened in 1774 and features pews built by slaves and a subfloor used on the Underground Railroad.
