Croce Plays Croce: 50th Anniversary Concert You Dont Mess Around With Jim

Croce Plays Croce, a special night of music featuring a complete set of classics performed by A.J. Croce in honor of his late father, Jim Croce some of A.J.s own tunes and songs that influenced both him and his father. The special event will feature such timeless songs as Operator, You Dont Mess Around with Jim, Time in a Bottle, , Rapid Roy and Lovers Cross, to name a few. Classic covers may include songs by Lieber and Stoller, Bessie Smith and other folk and roots artists.

During the program, A.J. Croce will present the full album with a special film element. For the second half of the show, A.J. and his band will play other iconic songs from his fathers musical canon.

Activities On Site At The Museum

Songwriter sessions, in which visitors can view live performances in an intimate setting, are held on Saturday mornings at 11:30am in the Ford Theater. A question and answer period follows each performance.

Instrument demonstrations are held every Sunday at 1:00pm that offer guests a chance to learn about the many instruments that country music artists use. Musicians perform and share information about their technique and the history of the instrument and guests are able to ask questions.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is worth a visit no matter how much or how little you enjoy country music. They even have part of the set from Hee Haw!

Im not a diehard country music fan, but I definitely love the classic artists Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Kenny Rogers, Reba McEntire and a number of modern acts as well, like Alison Krauss, Kacey Musgraves, Eric Church, and Chris Stapleton.

Back on my cross-country road trip years ago, I had hoped to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, but as I was on a restrictive $5/day spending limit, the museums $20 admission price wasnt in my budget.

This time around, I wasnt going to miss out. During my visit, I was able to see both the museum and RCA Studio B, a legendary recording studio that offers a separate tour which can be purchased at the museum.

The Country Music Hall Of Fame

For a professional in the country music field, Membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame, is one of the highest honors the genre can bestow. Invitation can be is extended to performers, songwriters, broadcasters, musicians, and executives in recognition of their contributions to the development of country music. The hall of fame honor was created in 1961 by the Country Music Association the first inductees were Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, and Fred Rose. Roy Acuff, the first living artist to join the Hall of Fame, was elected in 1962. The most recent inductees are Eddie Bayers, Ray Charles, Pete Drake, and The Judds.

Over the Hall of Fames history, the number of new members inducted each year has varied from one to twelve . Election to the Country Music Hall of Fame is solely the prerogative of the CMA. New members, elected annually by a panel of industry executives chosen by the CMA, are inducted formally during the Medallion Ceremony, part of the annual reunion of Country Music Hall of Fame members hosted by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum is a 501 non-profit educational organization and does not participate in the election.

In the 1960s, young musicians from across North America arrived in Los Angeles, drawn by the counterculture movement and the citys rise as a recording center. Eager to move beyond rock & rolls teeny-bopper fixation, the musicians turned to bluegrass, country, and folk music inspired by these forms, they wrote original material, utilizing drums and electric instrumentation. By the 1970s, this hybrid of country, folk, and rock ranked with the most popular sounds in America.

Western Edge will examine the close-knit communities of Los Angeles-based singers, songwriters and musicians who, from the 1960s through the 1980s, embraced country music, frequented local nightclubs, and created and shaped the musical fusion known as country-rock ultimately making an indelible and lasting impact on popular music.

The exhibit will survey the rise of the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Poco, Eagles, Emmylou Harris, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Linda Ronstadt and many others who found commercial success by merging rock & roll rhythms and attitude with country and bluegrass instrumentation and harmonies.

History Of The Museum

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is the worlds largest repository of country music artifacts. Early in the 1960s, as the Country Music Associations campaign to publicize country music was accelerating, CMA leaders determined that a new organization was needed to operate a country music museum and related activities beyond CMAs scope as a simply a trade organization. Toward this end, the nonprofit Country Music Foundation was chartered by the state of Tennessee in 1964 to collect, preserve, and publicize information and artifacts relating to the history of country music. Through CMF, industry leaders raised money with the effort of CMA Executive Director Jo Walker-Meador to build the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, which opened on April 1, 1967. The original building was a barn-shaped structure located at the head of Music Row, erected on the site of a small Nashville city park. This hall of fame was modeled after the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. At this point, artifacts began to be displayed and a small library was begun in a loft above one of the museums galleries.

Early in the 1970s, the basement of the museum building was partially complete, and library expansion began, embracing not only recordings, but also books and periodicals, sheet music and songbooks, photographs, business documents, and other materials. At the outset, CMA staff had run the museum, but by 1972, the museum acquired its own small staff.

This expansion included the addition of hundreds of new artifacts and multimedia elements that focus on country musics recent history. Country Music Hall Of Fame: Hours Parking Tickets And Basic Info

As noted, the Hall used to charge $20 admission around ten years ago. These days, its up to $25.95 for adult general admission and $15.95 for kids under age 12. For an extra $5, you can buy the Museum Experience ticket, which comes with an audio guide narrated by radio DJ Bill Cody.

The Hall also offers packages including RCA Studio B, the Hatch Poster Print Museum, and the CMA Theater.

As for hours, the Country Music Hall of Fame is open from 9 am to 5 pm every day of the year, except Christmas, Christmas Eve, and Thanksgiving. Give yourself at least an hour or two to take in all the sights.

The Hall is located at 222 Fifth Avenue South. Paid parking lots are available in the general vicinity, including at Music City Center at 6th Avenue South and Demonbreun. When I visited, I found street parking, but I had to walk a bit to get to the museum.

Food and drink are not allowed inside, except for sealed bottled water. While photography is permitted, selfie sticks and tripods are not.

There is a coat check for outerwear and shopping bags however, the museum does not check backpacks or luggage.
