Digital Representation Of Collections
Beginning in 2013, the Met organized the Digital Media Department for the purpose of increasing access of the museumâs collections and resources using digital media and expanded website services. The first Chief Digital Officer Sree Sreenivasan from 2013 departed in 2016 and was replaced by Loic Tallon at the time that the department became known by its simplified designation as the Digital Department. At the start of 2017, the department began its Open Access initiative summarized on the Metâs website titled âDigital Undergroundâ stating: âItâs been six months since The Met launched its Open Access initiative, which made available all 375,000+ images of public-domain works in The Met collection under Creative Commons Zero . During what is just the dawn of this new initiative, the responses so far have been incredible.â At that time, more than 375,000 photographic images from the museumâs archival collection were released for public domain reproduction and use both by the general public and by large public access websites such as those available at Google BigQuery.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art entry times are as follows:
- Sunday to Tuesday, and Thursday: 10 AM to 5 PM

The Truth About the MET?
The layout sucks and makes absolutely no sense. Yeah, I hate to say it but the MET exhibits seem to be randomly strewn throughout the museum, with some galleries spanning more than one floor.
Therefore:
Its easy to get totally lost and walk around aimlessly when the museum has a mind-boggling, two million square feet of exhibition space.
The Solution?
Instead of doing one hugely exhausting tour of the museum, do two or three smaller trips when viewing the best of the MET. This way, you can narrow your daily focus on a particular department and can avoid getting museumed out.
Thats Why:
The best day to visit the MET is on Fridays and Saturdays when you have the most flexibility in your visit since the museum is open until 9:00 pm.
However:
Generally speaking, the MET has the fewest visitors on Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. So while you can visit at night, dont expect to be the only one there. I mean, this is the City that never sleeps for a reason.
***I suggest treating the American Wing as a separate entity since it has about 24 period rooms, as well as some painting galleries on the mezzanine. Therefore, try and devout one entire day to explore this portion of the museum.
***To get to the MET on the subway, take the 4, 5, or 6 subway lines Uptown, to the 86th Street and Lexington subway station. The 6 also has a subway station on 77th street and Lexington.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, or The Met, is open Thursday through Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with extended hours on Friday and Saturday until 9:00 PM.
The museum is closed on Wednesday. The Met is also closed on Thanksgiving Day, December 25, January 1, and the first Monday in May.
