You can go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art today, and in real life at that. This isnât true of all the worldâs great art institutions, still shut down as many are by measures in response to the past yearâs coronavirus pandemic. But then, none of them have offered a digital visiting experience quite like The Met Unframed, recently launched in partnership with cellphone service provider Verizon. For a period of five weeks, anyone can join and freely roam a virtual reconstruction, or rather reimagining, of the Met and its galleries. There theyâll encounter paintings by Pollock, Van Gogh, and Rembrandt, as well as work by current artists and majestic artifacts from antiquity.
âUpon entering the website, visitors are welcomed to the museumâs Great Hall with a view of Kent Monkmanâs diptych mistikôsiwak: Wooden Boat People ,â writes Hyperallergicâs Hakim Bishara. âFrom there, banners offer broad thematic concepts â Power, Home, Nature, and Journey â through which visitors can explore the galleries.â

A Virtual Tour Of The Metropolitan Museum Of Art Met
The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City is the largest art museum in the United States. Its permanent collection has over two million works consists of works of art from the ancient world to modern art.
The METs extensive collection covers Egyptian, Greek, African, Asian, Oceanian, Byzantine, and Islmic art.
The museum is home to encyclopedic collections of musical instruments, costumes, and accessories, as well as antique weapons and armor from around the world.
Several historical interiors, ranging from first-century Rome through modern American design, are installed in the museums vast galleries.

Of course, different people have different views on what to see at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and which art objects you really should view.
The artworks are divided among 17 curatorial departments.

How Can I Take A Virtual Tour Of The Metropolitan Museum Of Art
The museum has launched The Met 360° Project, a series of six short videos, allowing viewers from all over the world to explore the iconic works of art.
They are free to watch and available to watch on YouTube.
In the first video The Met 360° Project: Great Hall, visitors can experience entering the museum’s main entry and admire its Neoclassical architecture.
Through the second video The Met Cloisters, users can enjoy the majestic view over the Hudson River and admire the medieval cloisters.
‘hadestown’ Star At Crossroads
He’s coming home again.
Broadway legend Andre De Shields, who won a 2019 Tony Award for his role in the hit musical “Hadestown,” has a long history with Crossroads Theatre Company in New Brunswick.
That relationship continues with performances and discussion of his musical “Haarlem Nocturne,” captured on the Crossroads stage and now streaming through Jan. 17.
The musical, performed at Crossroads in 1994 following a 1984 Broadway run, pays homage to the golden age of Harlem’s nightclubs. De Shields created, co-wrote, directed, choreographed and starred in the production.

Excerpts of the musical will be presented, alongside De Shields’ reflections of the piece in conversation with Crossroads co-founder Ricardo Khan.
Mr. De Shields is family and we are excited to have him back at Crossroads to spend some time with us reminiscing and revisiting the creativity and artistry that brought Haarlem Nocturne to life, Khan said.
Well also talk about the roles he played in bringing success to some of Broadways biggest shows including ‘The Wiz,’ ‘The Full Monty,’ ‘Aint Misbehavin’ and ‘Hadestown,’ the show that brought him his first Tony in 2019.
Speaking with the Asbury Park Press in 2018, De Shields said he feels a duty to share his experiences and the groundbreaking works he has been part of with new audiences and young actors.

In America: An Anthology of Fashion is the 2022 high fashionart exhibition of the Anna Wintour Costume Center, a wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which houses the collection of the Costume Institute. It is the second portion, after In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, of a two-part exhibition on fashion in the United States.

Egyptian Wing: Art And Cultural Artifacts
Also on the list of Metropolitan Museum of Art highlights is the Mets compilation of amazing Egyptian artworks and exhibits.
So after browsing the famous paintings, we beetled over to see the Egyptian art at the Met.
The museum contains a whopping number of ancient Egyptian statues and artifacts , displayed chronologically over 39 rooms.
We were intrigued to discover that many of the artifacts were collected when the Met sponsored several archaeological expeditions to Egypt in the early 1900s.
At the time, Egypt gave concessions to foreign institutions to excavate various sites.
This was based on the understanding that half of what was found would go to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The excavators could keep the other half.
And so the Met Museum acquired a splendid Egyptian collection!
Difference Between The Met And Moma:
The Met vs MoMA? Theres always debate about that.
The largest art museum in the United States, the Met showcases some 5,000 years of art from all cultures and time periods.
MoMA is smaller. Its specialty is, naturally, modern and contemporary art. Wed love to see it. Next visit!
Mind you, at the Met, we dont know if we actually saw much of what can be seen there.
Many of the European paintings are being shuffled around and/or going into storage while gallery skylights are being replaced and other renovation work is carried out.
These skylights allow natural overhead light to shine through the best light for viewing the Metropolitan Museum art.
The four-year work project is expected to be complete in 2022.
No matter, though, if we missed seeing some of the most famous paintings at the Met.
We were sufficiently impressed by the European paintings we did see!

The Met Unframed Is An Immersive Virtual Art And Gaming Experience
Going on a museum tour has been difficult, if not impossible, for many people around the world during the ongoing pandemic. Luckily, virtual museum tours are available at institutions around the globe.
On Tuesday, The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced its collaboration with Verizon to on The Met Unframed, an immersive virtual art and gaming experience.
The Met Unframed includes nearly 50 works of art in the Met’s collection, organized in digitally rendered galleries to peruse as you please.
“Our mission since The Met’s founding 150 years ago has been to connect people to art and ideas, and to one another something we’ve found to be more powerful than ever over these last months of isolation and uncertainty,” said Max Hollein, Director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, in a statement. “The Met Unframed brings the Museum to audiences wherever they are in an innovative viewing experience in which users can virtually visit iconic spaces and engage with The Met’s masterpieces, learn more about the works in a playful way through AR, and enjoy bringing the art into one’s own surroundings.”
But those with 5G capabilities can also access four special pieces of art in the museum that will “come to life” while projecting the art into whatever room they’re in, making the new tour a truly new way to see and appreciate art.

Experience The Met Unframed
In a time when many museums have been forced to close their doors or sharply reduce attendance, those institutions have done their best to adapt and muddle through. As you may know from playing some of our online scavenger hunts, museums all over the world have worked to beef up their virtual offerings. The Metropolitan Museum of Art may have outdone them all.
On January 12, The Met, which has seen some success with new Covid safety measures since re-opening in August, released a new, limited-time experience dubbed The Met Unframed. The Love Letter By Jean Honore Fragonard
We fell in love with The Love Letter, a famous canvas by the French painter Jean Honore Fragonard.
The young woman in the picture looks to be flirting with us as she holds a bouquet of flowers and a love letter.
Who is the letter from? Her fiancé? Or is she married, and is the letter from her secret lover?
The painting from the early 1770s is also intriguing because it looks somewhat unfinished.
The darker brown sections of the canvas arent as detailed as the young woman. She alone is shown in intricate feathery brushstrokes of color and light.

Wander into this two-story hall with Ionic columns, flooded with natural light from the skylights above.
Youll feel like youve been transported back to ancient Greece or Rome!
Thats the intention of the main Greek and Roman showroom, another popular attraction at the Met.
And it works. Its one of the most impressive rooms in the Met.

What Should I See
The first thing you should do is take in the Great Hall. For anyone who loves and misses this museum, its nice just being here, even virtually. And then from here, you can start exploring a number of themed galleries.
- Power Galleries: The Met will want you to think about the portrayals of power here, but likely youll just think of this as the home of favorites like Egyptian statues and Washington Crossing the Delaware.
- Journey Galleries: Here youll find art that takes you to another place. Sounds nice right about now, right?
- Home Galleries: Doing the opposite, these galleries look at how the concept of home has been depicted over time.
- Nature Galleries: Head inside to see the Temple of Dendur, Jackson Pollocks, a unicorn, and more.
