Naturally, Daytona Beach restaurants feature a lot of fresh seafood. I enjoy dining next to water, whether oceanfront or on the intracoastal waterway. Our first dinner, at Azure at The Shores Resort and Spa , began with a double rainbow but the food tasted equally gorgeous. The grilled black grouper was the best thing I ate on my trip, even better than the DIY smores dessert.
Another oceanfront dinner was at Racings North Turn, known for the historic, ahem, north turn of the original racing track. I recommend their rum drinks and fish tacos. Happy hour drink specials are prevalent but I was impressed with the $5 daily specials at The Shores ResortTuesdays special, for instance, was margarita or tequila sunrise. The Grille at Riverview in New Smyrna Beach and Aunt Catfishs on the River in Port Orange are two fun places on the intracoastal.

Congo River Golf is a fun adventure-themed miniature golf course with many additional attractions. Ponce De Leon Lighthouse & Museum Daytona Beach Florida
ThePonce de Leon Lighthouse & Museum is a historic lighthouse on the Ponce de Leon Inlet. Standing 175 feet high, it is the tallest lighthouse in Florida and one of the tallest in the United States. The first lighthouse was built in 1835 to prevent shipwrecks from taking place along the coast the current lighthouse was completed in 1887 on what was then called Mosquito Inlet.
Abandoned in 1970, the lighthouse was restored to service in 1982. The museum consists of the lighthouse, three keepers dwellings, and several historic objects such as the 1867 lens installed in 1887.

Jimmie Johnsons 2006 Daytona Firesuit Turned Into Artpiece Splits Nascar Fans
There are many things by which race car drivers remember their big moments. Yes, there are trophies to put on the shelf, but one of the other important mementos of such moments are firesuits. And for a NASCAR driver, no suit would be more iconic than that from a Daytona 500 win something which two-time Daytona winner Jimmie Johnson recently put on public display.

But not in the way one would normally expect.
Jimmie Johnson posted a tweet in which he revealed that his 2006 firesuit is on display at a Charlotte museum. And the iconic piece of clothing was given a different treatment by renowned installation artist E.V. Day.

E.V. Day did an incredible job transforming my 2006 Daytona 500 winning firesuit into this work of art. It will be on display at the starting today through June 5, 2022 if youre in Charlotte and interested in experiencing it in person.

The suit is beautifully displayed in its various bits and pieces it is suspended in the air in its fragmented form in an abstract artistic manner.

You might think, like I did, ho hum, a museum at the worlds most famous beach. Who will visit that? Let me tell you, the Daytona Beach museums are outstanding and well worth your consideration.
The Museum of Arts and Sciences is a Smithsonian Institution affiliate. Its Root family wing has the largest collection of Coca Cola items outside of Georgia . The museums visible storage room is fascinating. It has a hands-on childrens museum, planetarium, and magnificent onsite 90 acre preserve. Its West Wing opens later in October and features a 13 foot giant sloth skeleton, Cuban Foundation Museum, and African artifacts exhibit.
Nearby Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art contains a massive collection of Florida art. I absolutely loved the Florida weather collection. Looking at so much art increases appetite and conveniently the Brown art museum has a Honey Baked Ham cafe by the way the Cuban sandwich is really good. McCool Travel Tip: save money by buying a combo ticket for MOAS and Brown art museum.
