This project scope includes a 1,158 heated SF visitor center with a 3,500 SF roof. The program includes a multipurpose space, information area, mechanical and storage rooms, exterior access bathrooms, and a generous covered outdoor seating space. The building construction type is V-B and the Occupancy is A2. Add Alternates include:

Admission to the museum is free, but tickets are required for certain special exhibitions, concerts and other events.

Biking The Art To Heart Trail

Keep in mind that the Art to Heart Trail is NOT a loop. You can of course bike one way in to downtown and then back again, but we decided to stay downtown for drinks and lunch so I caught an Uber back from downtown to pick up our car from the museum car park then drive back into the city to meet up with the others.

The 6 mile paved trail starts by winding its way through the museums 164-acre park, passes behind Meredith College, cuts through the main campus at North Carolina State University, passes by Pullen Park, through Boylan Heights, then finishes in the heart of the city just outside of the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts or wherever your heart desires .

This trail proved to be one of the best kid-friendly Raleigh trailsvfor us as a family to get outside and explore unique areas and neighborhoods of Raleigh whilst passing through parks, campuses, and downtown neighborhoods.

Along the trail theres a good mixture of flat trail and some small inclines, bridges to cross, tunnels to go through, and lovely tree lined streets and nature areas.

North Carolina Museum Of Art Park Expansion

The North Carolina Museum of Art Expansion project embraced an innovative design to expand and transform the museum campus. The project featured an elliptical lawn and seating area including table and chairs with umbrellas, tree line parking, contemporary wave gardens with granite paths and seating areas, a parterre area with concrete planters, a new promenade connecting the park and galleries and public art installations. A unique project feature is the ridge line running parallel to Blue Ridge Road consisting a raised lawn and planting area that is enhanced by a corten steel ridge band and sign banners, new bike and walking paths that connects the museum to the Capital Area Greenway. The smoke stack was preserved for possible future enhancements and an overlook bridge installed for viewing.

Intersection Of Hillsborough & Gorman Streets

We then came to the intersection of Hillsborough and Gorman. Once here, you go over the crosswalk and then take a RIGHT on Gorman St and head towards Sullivan Drive.

When going down Gorman St youll bike over another bridge over some train tracks and then to Sullivan Drive.

Take a LEFT on Sullivan Drive and pick up the Rocky Branch Greenway.

Sullivan Drive and Rocky Branch Greenway takes you through NC State Universitys North Campus passing Miller Fields and behind Carmichael Gymnasium. Follow the signs for Pullen Park and youll pass under a tunnel , and then past Pullen Park on your left that runs parallel to Western Blvd until you come to Ashe Ave.

When you get to Ashe Ave, take a LEFT and bike for a short distance until you get to the entrance gates to Pullen Park. Cross the road here and continue along Rocky Branch Trail .

Stay on the greenway trail until you get to W. Cabarrus St and follow this street into the Historic Boylan Heights neighborhood, one of the best neighborhoods in Raleigh.

Then take a RIGHT on W. Lenior St which takes down into the heart of the city and to the unofficial end at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

Once you leave the grounds of the NCMA youll pick up the Reedy Creek Trail. Even though we did this on a Saturday, and it was a lovely 77 degrees out in November, it was not too crowded and the trail is easy to navigate past other bikers or joggers.

You take the bridge over US-440 and then through a tunnel under Wade Avenue and keep following the trail that wraps around the outside of Meredith College.

North Carolina Museum Of Art Park

Get to know this 2.7-km loop trail near Raleigh, North Carolina. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 36 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, road biking, and running, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. British Spanish And French Post1600

The museum possesses a number of British portraits, most of which are installed in a gallery devoted to European portraiture and its early American counterpart. The collection features important works by Paul van Somer, Anthony van Dyck, Francis Cotes, Sir William Beechey, Thomas Gainsborough, and Sir Henry Raeburn. The museum’s French and Spanish collections include portraits and still lifes by Boudin, Millet, Pissarro, and Monet.

Blue Ridge Road And The Stone Building

In 1967, the present-day Blue Ridge Road site was chosen as the location for a new building, as the museum had outgrown the Morgan Street location. Designed by Edward Durrell Stone and Associates of New York and Holloway-Reeves Architects of North Carolina, the new building opened in 1983, under the directorship of Edgar Peters Bowron . Stone used spatial experimentation with pure geometric form for the museum by using a square as a basic unit and designing the entire site by manipulating the square form. This was Stone’s last major design prior to his death. After he died in 1978, the exterior was changed from white marble to red brick.

RALEIGH, N.C. In March 2020, Wilson Murphy decamped from Manhattan, where he had lived for more than 30 years.

Covid hit, and everyone was scattering, said Mr. Murphy, who is the founder of a firm that represents photographers. So, I scattered. Down to Raleigh.

Though he had graduated from the University of North Carolina in nearby Chapel Hill, Mr. Murphy hadnt been back to Raleigh in years. So he unpacked his Trek mountain bike and decided to explore his new home via the citys extensive network of bike trails.

He meandered northwest of the downtown area, along paths emptied by the pandemic, until he came across an open expanse ringed with oaks and southern pines and some unusual sights that werent from nature: a lone, towering brick smokestack three large earthen rings and, a little ways off the trail and tucked into a small courtyard surrounded by a rectangular building was that a statue? Mr. Murphy pedaled closer, leaning over to examine what turned out to be three bronze figures. Then, it hit him.

• Mindful Museum: Sensory Journey through Art is a reoccurring evening event intended for those with low vision. What Is The Art To Heart Trail

The Art to Heart Trail is a point-to-point trail that connects the North Carolina Museum of Art to the heart of Downtown Raleigh. This trail begins at the NCMA which is the states premiere collection of art, situated within a 164-acre sculpture park.

This 6-mile trail is a short segment of the larger East Coast Greenway, a developing trail system linking major cities of the eastern Seaboard between Canada and Key West totaling 2,900 miles!

Getting To The Museum

The NCMA is located at 2110 Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh, North Carolina. Visitor parking is free and available in the Blue Ridge lots, to the right after entering the Museum drive. Additional parking is located behind West Building, to the left after entering the Museum drive. Free ADA-compliant parking is available. The most accessible parking is behind West Building.

Visitor drop-off is located between West and East buildings and can be reached by turning left after entering the Museum drive and following the signs.

Visitors Who Are Deaf Or Hard Of Hearing

• American Sign Language interpretation and CART captioning are available free of charge for any Museum program, school or public tour, or event. To make a request, please email . Please allow at least two weeks notice.

• Open captioning is available in English at all video stations in both buildings.

• Assistive listening devices are available in SECU Auditorium. Additionally, this space has an induction loop to provide improved accessibility for visitors with telecoils. The loop is available for films, lectures, and other programs in the Auditorium.

Visitors With Limited Mobility
