There are many great things to do with kids in Buffalo, New York, but none are better than the Explore & More Childrens Museum.

Explore & More Childrens Museum opened their current space to the public in July 2019 and are located in Canalside, near the Buffalo Naval Park and Buffalo River History Tours. However, despite this museum being newer, they actually have a 25-year history and used to have a smaller space in nearby East Aurora.

The new museum features three floors of activities younger children to enjoy, but there are also elements that older elementary kids will appreciate too. These are divided into seven play areas that each highlight an aspect of western New Yorks history and culture.

The main floor of the museum features one of the largest water play areas Ive seen at any childrens museum.

The area is focused around the Erie Canal and offers a great chance to talk to kids about the importance of this waterway. Of course, there are also some whimsical aspects to the table, as well, such as the giant waterwheel.

What Is There To Do

Explore & More is a super fun hands-on Children’s Museum that offers not only fun interactive exhibits, but exhibits dedicated to providing challenging & educational experiences to help kids grow and develop!

The museum was created by former pre-school teachers, so you know they have created their seven rooms filled with activities designed to be fun, and at the same time, to stimulate the cognitive, small motor, social, and creative development of young minds.

Love history? Of course you do, which is why the 1860’s vintage house is a super fun place to start that day of play, which was created for kids aged 3 to 8 years . Here, kids can play in a Civil War era house, and a general store, and experience what life would have been like in the 19th century!

Those creative kids in the family will love the Art Room, where they can just express themselves through art using a host of fun craft items provided by the museum, including feathers, pipe cleaners, glitter, glue and more!

Future engineers in the family will gravitate towards the Construction Zone, where the hard hat area allows them to use pulleys to hoist heavy loads, experiment with gears, and even seen how far a whisper can travel!

The Nature Area is fun for kids who love to explore all wildlife, and the Exploration Room brings science to life, complete with bubbles, magnets and more!

A day of fun and learning is waiting at Explore & More Children’s Museum, so we better get started!

I was a teacher at Sun Prairie High School and pre-pandemic I was a preschool teacher at Sun Prairie Nursery School. My husband and I have four young children and truly feel that we have found a fantastic city to raise our family in.

I am thrilled to be a part of bringing a childrens museum to Sun Prairie. Childrens museums are built to spark childrens imaginations, allow them to follow their passions and discover new passions, a place where children can show us how they play and in doing so, how their brains are developing. The Explore Childrens Museum will be a community hub a place for families to enjoy one another, expand and explore their knowledge, develop skills and connect with their community and the world around them.

AM Buffalo visits Explore and More Childrens Museum – Part 3

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. The Explore Childrens Museum is offering a new place for young families to play in Dane County.

Since the museum opened on January 1, over 3,600 visitors have traveled to check it out. There are ten interactive exhibits with some rotating experiences year-round.

The 4,800 square foot space has plenty of places for imaginative play and hands-on learning.

Executive Director Katey Kamoku says as the Sun Prairie area grows, a space like this is needed to engage kids outside of school or daycare environments. Its geared toward children ages 0-9 years old.

Children have this innate ability to learn through play. Their brains are designed to do that, said Kamoku. As adults, its our responsibility to provide those opportunities.
