The Frontier of Flight Museum is committed to educating visitors about aviation and space travel. While most air-and-space museums house aircraft retired after extensive service, the centerpiece of the collection at the Frontiers of Flight Museum has a flight record thats hard to match: 163 consecutive orbits around Earth. Between October 11 and 22, 1968, the Apollo 7 command module rocketed around the globe at 17,280 miles per hour, chalking up a healthy number of orbits before splashing into the Atlantic and, eventually, coming to its current residence on the museum floor. Displayed with its hatch open for visitors to peep inside at its instrument-covered panels, the module sits alongside thousands of artifacts from the various golden ages of aeronautic exploration, including salvage from the infamous Hindenburg airship and more than 30 vintage aircraft. The family-friendly museum welcomes younger visitors with the Childrens Discovery Area and a “living history” series featuring aviation icons such as Amelia Earhart and Orville Wright.

In between, there is the faces behind the planes during the 20s and 30s, also know as the “Golden Age of Flight”, and of course giving kids the chance to really understand the sacrifices of those who flew in WWII.
The Frontiers of Flight Museum has over 30 real aircraft in it’s collection, as well as space vehicles. Some of these were actually made in Texas!
Kids can go all the way back and discover those iconic “early flyers” such as Glenn Curtiss and of course the Wright brothers. There is even a full size replica of that 1903 “Wright Flyer” which of course became the stepping stone into aviation as we know it today!
There are rare artifacts which are incredible to see in person, such as items from the Hindenburg, and of course galleries on some of the wars, like WWI, WWII, and the Cold War.

De Havilland Dh82 Tigermoth Ii
An Australian abroad. One of the first exhibits I walked to was this ex Aussie Tigermoth which had flown on the Australian register as VH-PCC. Wearing the serial DE664 the aircraft was flown by the Royal Air Force. Post-war it migrated to Australia flying as VH-PCC until its export to the USA in 1974. Today it is marked with the US registration of N82AK.

Frontiers Of Flight Museum Presents Moon Day
Moon Day is a community-wide family-fun event featuring a full day of activities with space-related displays and activities from over 30 exhibitors and presenters.
Moon Day was created in 2009 by the Frontiers of Flight Museum and the National Space Society of North Texas as an annual event to celebrate space exploration on or near the anniversary of the first Moon landing. The festival is a science, technology, engineering and math focused space-themed public event.
As part of the special festivities, the Frontiers of Flight Museum will present a conversation with Apollo 13 Astronaut Fred Haise as he shares an in-depth look at his life and career, and discusses his new book, Never Panic Early: An Apollo 13 Astronaut’s Journey. Haise will be joined by author Bill Moore, with the conversation moderated by Mark Davis. The presentation will take place in the Museums Hamilton Family Auditorium from 1:30-2:15 pm.
Learavia Lear Fan 2100
One of the last aircraft designed by Bill Lear, the LearAvia Lear Fan 2100 is one of the first business aircraft constructed with carbon fibre materials. The radical twin-engine, single prop pusher design pushed the limits of engineering ingenuity. One of Lears favourite sayings describes this mammoth project well, Dont take a nibbletake the big bite! After Lears passing, his wife Moya honoured his final wish, took the big bite, and finished the project.

The Frontiers of Flight Museum is an aerospace museum located in Dallas, Texas, founded in November 1988 by William E. Cooper, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Jan Collmer. Originally located within a terminal at Dallas Love Field, the museum now occupies a 100,000-square-foot building at the southeast corner of Love Field on Lemmon Avenue. The museum is an affiliate within the Smithsonian Affiliations program.
Aviation historian George E. Haddaway promoted the founding of the museum subsequent to donation of his extensive personal collection of aviation history books, journals, photographs, as well as archives to the University of Texas at Dallas as the nucleus of one of the world’s finest aviation collections, the History of Aviation Collection.
The museum features an extensive collection of aviation history artifacts and vehicles, and focuses on the history of aviation and space exploration with an emphasis on the role of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Exhibits include the Apollo 7Command Module a World War ISopwith Pupbiplane replica artifacts from the German airship Hindenburg and other airships and over 200 World War II aircraft models.

The Frontier of Flight Museum has a wide variety of aircraft on display, ranging from early lighter-than-air craft to the supersonic jets of the present day. One of the most interesting aircraft in the collection is the Northrop YF-17, an experimental fighter jet designed in the 1970s. The YF-17 was later developed into the successful F-18 Hornet, which is still in use today. Another interesting Aircraft is the Bell X-1, which was the first airplane to fly faster than the speed of sound. The X-1 was piloted by Chuck Yeager, who famously broke the sound barrier in 1947. Today, the X-1 is on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. These are just a few examples of the many fascinating aircraft that can be found at the Frontier of Flight Museum.

| The Frontiers of Flight Museum is located at the southeastern corner of the Dallas Love Field Airport on Lemmon Avenue. The dramatically-designed 100,000 square foot facility, opened in June 2004, houses over 30 aircraft and space vehicles, over a dozen themed exhibits, a 200-seat auditorium, dedicated classrooms and conference rooms, and a children’s discovery area. Two climate-controlled aircraft hangar-like buildings, joined by a connecting structure on both levels, offer multiple event rental and production options. The northern structure incorporates the original foundation and framework of the historic Mustang Aviation hangar, an aircraft service operator dating from the 1940s.
