Refugees face fear, shattered lives and often dangerous voyages in search of refuge. Canada has provided that refuge for many. However, over the course of the twentieth century, Canada has had a mixed record in welcoming refugees, reacting generously to some while overlooking others. Refuge Canada provides the context for Canadas place in the global refugee crisis and brings to light the challenges faced by refugees in Canada. North Vancouver Museum & Archives

Chief Dan George: Actor and Activist launched at the former North Vancouver Museum and later was hosted at UMista Cultural Centre and the Sidney Museum. It is now available for loan to organizations around the province. The show draws on the NVMAs archival and artifact collection, including paintings, photographs and memorabilia, and was developed in close collaboration with the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and the George Family. The Lion Guard: The Exhibit

Miami Childrenâs Museum launched the first-ever museum exhibit based on Disney Juniorâs hit series, âThe Lion Guard,â which continues the epic storytelling of âThe Lion Kingâ and follows the adventures of Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, and his diverse group of friends as they unite to protect the Pride Lands. The exhibit debuted at Miami Childrenâs Museum in January 2018 and is now traveling to other childrenâs museums across the country through 2022.

Spotlighting important learning areas such as social and self-development, problem solving, creative thinking and arts & culture, this one-of-a-kind exhibit will bring âThe Lion Guardâ story to life for young children and their families. Through hands-on activities and interactive and imaginative play, guests will be transported to the Pride Lands to discover the unique traits of each member of The Lion Guard team â Kion, the leader of the group and the fiercest in all of the Pride Lands Bunga, a fearless honey badger and the Pride Landsâ bravest Fuli, a confident cheetah and the fastest in the Pride Lands Beshte, a friendly and good-spirited hippo and the strongest in the Pride Lands and Ono, an intellectual egret who is keenest of sight â that allow them to work together to maintain balance in the Circle of Life.

Why Do We Need Your Help

The summer slide is a well-documented phenomenon that occurs in children of all ages when they dont receive enough reading practice over the summer, leading to an average loss of two months of reading progress. This combined with significant learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic and school closures is demonstrating far-reaching implications for all children, but especially for children with disabilities and children belonging to under-resourced communities .

Current projections from the Department of Education are showing increased gaps in student achievement at the beginning of the 22-23 school year due to intermittent closings of school due to COVID-19, as well as additional effects of the pandemic on young children . Targeted summer and fall programming is essential to address learning loss, especially for students who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

Kidzu is combating the summer and COVID-19 slides through innovative and recurring literacy programming this summer, culminating with a traveling exhibit early this fall.

Harry Potter: The Exhibition

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter comes to life in this new exhibition Muggles and witches alike can visit Harrys bedroom under the stairs, Hogwarts, the Forbidden Forrest and more. In this highly interactive visitors will practice Defense Against the Dark Arts, brew potions and use their wands to perform spells.

Thomas & Friends: Explore the Rails

All aboard! Thomas & Friends: Explore the Rails! is an interactive exhibit inspired by the popular childrens series now on Nick Jr. Playful learning experiences that feature engines and destinations from the show will engage children and their families in foundational skills that foster STEM literacy. Visitors to the exhibit will be delighted as they find themselves surrounded by the Island of Sodors iconic locations: Knapford Station, Sodor Steamworks and much more. In the exhibit, children help Thomas and his friends solve a variety of challenges, from a sorting and shape identification activity to more complex engineering obstacles like completing a train track using pieces with different levels of elevation. As children encounter new challenges and test their abilities, the smiling faces of Thomas, Percy, Victor and others are there to offer encouragement and remind children how really useful they all are.

In this exhibit which highlights famous architects as inspiration and various block building media for a hands-on interactive learning experience, children will become young architects as they design for the future. A buildings design can often give us a clue about how it will be used. People live, work and play in buildings. Here We Grow is a fun, hands-on agricultural-themed mini Exhibition that introduces children and families to the processes, products, and people who work on farms. As children climb aboard a wooden tractor, build bush-pull tools, and meet local farmers, children learn about the importance of agriculture in everyday lives and explore farming through themes of science and technology, history, local ecology, global economics, and art.

South Asian Studies Institute Ufv

The word Haq in Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi means rights. The exhibit highlights and emphasizes the need for South Asian histories to be shared all across the province. Haq and History is a single bilingual travelling exhibit developed in partnership with the Royal BC Museum and the South Asian Studies Institute as part of the Punjabi Canadian Legacy Project. Its purpose is to add to the collection and preservation of South Asian Canadian histories across British Columbia.

And Did We Mention Our Animal Friends

We also have a handful of friends that are always at the BFK. These include a small flock of birds on the first floor, freshwater fish by the Big Rig Depot, and saltwater fish by the Water Gallery.

Being Safe & Healthy

We love curious kids, but we also love safe and healthy kids. Throughout the day we keep an eye out for safety hazards. The BFK is inspected by a nationally-certified safety consultant periodically. All exterior doors are locked and alarmed. The only exit is through our main entrance, which operates by a height sensor to prevent any small children from opening the door without an adult present.

The interactive items and surfaces in the BFK are washed and disinfected. Every evening we clean the floors and restrooms. We steam clean our carpets and buff our floors as needed. There are Yuck Bags installed on the walls for adults to add toys that might have gone into kids mouths. The toys are disinfected before being added back to the exhibits. In addition, we provide hand sanitizer for your use in several areas.

On The Farm: Loos Art Gallery

On the Farm with the Loos Art Gallery takes art interpretation to the next level.

Not only will visitors be able to view and contemplate what the animals in our art collection are doing, they will also be able to act it out, imagine new versions of each creation, and make their own performance art. Test out saddles while neighing alongside the White Horse by Bob Kane, Carousel Ride by David Coolidge and the rest of our horse collection. Then care for our herd of baby cows while peering at Morning Mist by John Falato and Best Friends by Reynier Llanes. Be sure to cuddle in the cat corner, go shelling in the underwater infant area, and explore other art themed interactive zones. Who knew an art gallery could be so fun?
