Why An Enrichment Pod
Addressing the needs of children and families
Boston Childrens Museum is aware of the challenges facing families in Boston and beyond. Explore It Enrichment Pods aim to offer:
- Child CareAfterschool, 2pm-5pm. Only one adult/caregiver is required to accompany each learning pod of up to 10 children.
- Learning Through Exploration and Play Museum educators have created the Explore It Enrichment Pod activities with specific attention to the types of robust, hands-on exploration and play experiences that Boston Childrens Museum is famous for.
- Safety Enrichment pods will be given their own designated space to learn and interact with each other. Social distancing and masks are required. All Museum spaces are sanitized and all loose parts are cleaned multiple times each day.
- Social/Emotional Learning Opportunities Students in 2020 need a safe space for them to return to some form of normal interaction forming friendships and practicing teamwork.

Parking And Public Transportation
There are multiple parking options in close proximity to the Museum.
The Museum is also very proximate to public transportation. It is a short walk from South Station and the MBTA Silver Line.
Parking in the Seaport can range from $25-$45 depending on the garage or lot and weekday or weekend rates. Museum validation will save a few dollars off of the posted rate of the garage.

What Is A Hotspot

There are three kinds of hotspots which contain different types of content: informational content, informational content with imagery and informational content with video. Childrens Museum Of Houston

Several virtual events are available for children through the Childrens Museum of Houston website. During the time of school closures, families can take part in virtual story-times , toddler playtime, and more. Mr. Os O Wow Moments, for example, walks kids through science experiments that they can complete at home. Educator Moments give kids structure for activities they can do with caregivers via Facebook Live.

The Boston Childrens Museum was founded in 1913 and is the second oldest childrens museum in the world.
The museum features 3 floors of exhibits with lots of hands-on science, health and fitness, cultural, environmental, and art activities, as well as collection artifacts on display throughout the museum.
Tips For Visiting Boston Childrens Museum Virtually

While you should be able to easily navigate from one exhibit to the next, just in case you have trouble with it, Google Street View links are included in the guide at the start of each exhibit.
The Google Street View tour of the museum was done in December 2012, so you wont be able to virtually walk through any areas or exhibits that have changed since then.
To prepare for your Boston Childrens Museum virtual tour get to know the layout of the museum by looking at this map. Print the map out or keep it open in another tab while you virtually walk through the museum to help you learn your way around.

Boston Black, set up like a little town, is an exhibit that highlights the diversity within Bostons Black community, shares the history of Black people in the city, and encourages conversations about race and identity for families.
Have your kids watch this video about the history of black womens hair. Make your kids their own braiding boards with these instructions from happyhooligans.com so they can practice braiding. They can also watch this video to learn how to braid.
Some other fun activity ideas could be setting up a little café with toy dishes, a market with some toy food and a toy cash register, or a beauty salon with a hair styling doll head and hair accessories.

My Boston Childrens Museum Virtual Field Trip Review
When I planned this virtual trip for my kids, I had no idea how long it would take us to do all the activities. Typically, we only spend around three hours at our local childrens museum, which isnt nearly as large as this one.
Our virtual trip to the Boston Childrens Museum ended up taking us five and a half hours to complete. My kids loved the activities I set up for them. Some they even kept out to play with for the rest of the week.
Both of the kids were fully engaged in all of the activities and enjoyed doing the virtual walkthrough to see what the museum had to do.
Of course, they both want to go there in real life as soon as we can travel again too.

Enrichment Pods are meant for groups looking for a safe meeting place, educator-led learning opportunities for hands-on exploration and play, and opportunities for grown-ups to take advantage of a few hours of high-quality childcare support at Boston Childrens Museum.
