History Of The Missouri History Museum
The museum can currently be found within the Jefferson Memorial Building, built-in 1913. Created using profits from the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, the Missouri History Museum owes its permanence to the most historical event that ever took place in St. Louis: the 1904 Worlds Fair. Attracting attendees from around the world, everyone was looking at St. Louis during the biggest fair in the U.S. at the time.
The American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment selected the Emerson Center as an example of architectural design that protects and enhances the environment that year. As a result, the museum is known as an example of a green museum today.

Missouri History Museum Virtual Tour
The Missouri History Museum was founded in 1866 and is located in the Jefferson Memorial Building, which was built in 1913. The museums collection includes national artifacts, as well as Missouri and St. Louis related history.
The Museum offers both continuing permanent exhibits as well as short-term special exhibits. These exhibits reflect a commitment to explore the histories of those who call the St. Louis and Missouri home.

Missouri History Museums St Louis Sound Exhibition Explores The Citys Contributions To American Popular Music
St. Louis is known for many things the Gateway Arch, professional sports teams, toasted ravioli but is perhaps lesser recognized for its influence on and contributions to the American music industry.
St. Louis Sound, a new exhibition displayed over 6,000 square feet at the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis Forest Park, aims to make known the role the metro area has played in shaping various musical genres.
St. Louis is undeniably one of the most important American musical cities there is, says Andrew Wanko, public historian and content lead for St. Louis Sound. When you look across St. Louis genres of music, you find all of these incredible stars that have completely changed American music as we know it. These werent just popular musicians like Scott Joplin and Chuck Berry, Tina Turner, Miles Davis these were genre-defining musicians that everyone who came after had to answer to.
St. Louis is situated at the geographic and cultural crossroads of the country, a Missouri History Museum press release states. Wanko thinks that position has allowed musicians in the city to absorb the nations sounds and combine them with our own homegrown sounds.

When you come visit the St. Louis Sound gallery, youre going to see artifacts from most of the big St. Louis names, Wanko continues. But youre also going to see artifacts from St. Louisans you might not have heard of before who are just as important.

Tips For Researching Your Homes History
Heres how you can start investigating your homes history, according to Dennis Northcott and Neil and Veronica Putz of the Soulard Restoration Groups Historical Committee.
First, begin with your address and an estimate of when your house was built .
Keep in mind that potential roadblocks can occur because of street name changes, house number changes and building vacancies.A decent amount of information can be found at home, thanks to the internet. The St. Louis Mercantile Library is the oldest library west of the Mississippi and has an extensive digital library. For example, you can examine maps to see a street view of your neighborhood in 1909 and you can examine the 1900 St. Louis City directory to see who lived in your home.
Online databases including newspapers.com and ancestry.com can be useful to search your address and the names of people who once lived in your house. Old newspaper articles often included full addresses whenever they mention a person. With a St. Louis or St. Louis County library card, you can use newspapers.com for free and search copies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis Globe-Democrat and German newspapers as far back as the 1800s.

St Louis Sound At The Missouri History Museum
This new exhibition at the Missouri History Museum explores the diverse music that has helped to define the city of St. Louis spanning from the earliest recorded sounds all the way up to the modern day. Visitors will learn about famous pillars of St. Louis music like Scott Joplin, Chuck Berry, Miles Davis, Josephine Baker, and Nelly, as well as many lesser known but still massively important individuals.One of the most exciting things about this exhibit is that it comes with a playlist of 100 songs that can be accessed through a QR code when visitors enter. This allows people to not just see artifacts, but to actually hear the music this exhibit is all about.St. Louis Sound continues at the Missouri History Museum through January 22, 2023. - The Museum gets pretty crowded on weekdays so its advisable to go during the week to beat the crowd.

Join the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, for the opening weekend of St. Louis Sound, a free, 6,000-square-foot special exhibit that explores St. Louis vital role in the story of American popular music from the dawn of recorded sound to Nellys Country Grammar. Exhibits At Missouri History Museum
The museum is most known for its signature collection that includes both national artifacts and Missouri and St. Louis-related materials. Items from the Louisiana Purchase Exposition can be observed there and items relating to Charles Lindbergh and his trans-Atlantic flight in the Spirit of St. Louis. A replica of the Spirit of St. Louis can also be found within the museum. Many artifacts recovered from Lewis and Clarks expedition west are additionally showcased, considering they used St. Louis as a starting point for their famous adventure.
The museum, of course, has traveling exhibitions and collections that come and go. Recent traveling exhibits and events have included items related to the Fox Theatres restoration and renovation, the Road to Freedom Tour, which celebrated Americans with Disabilities, and, most notably, the Lewis and Clark National Bicentennial Exhibition.
