Norton Museum Of Art Gala

For the third year in a row, we provided tenting and flooring solutions for the Norton Museum of Arts annual gala event in West Palm Beach, Florida. This year was unique because the gala was a celebration of the grand opening of the new museum expansion and the retirement of the executive director. It was also double the size of previous years with 800 attendees seated for dinner and dancing.

The project was to convert the former office trailer lot into a high-end gala event space.

Rudin Prize For Emerging Photography

In 2012, the Norton Museum of Art launched the Rudin Prize for Emerging Photographers, which comes with a $20,000 prize. It was an initiated by Beth Rudin DeWoody and is given biennially to an emerging photographer who has never had a museum show.

Norton Museum Plans Summer Of Activities

The Norton of Museum of Art will host an array of exhibitions, events, and family activities as part of its second annual Summer at the Norton programming initiative, continuing through Sept. 5.

On view will be a number of temporary exhibitions that include works created in a variety of media by Pablo Picasso at different stages in his career, while a programming schedule will offer the opportunity for visitors of all ages to interact with the Norton. And thanks to the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation, Palm Beach County residents will receive free admission to the Museum on Saturdays from through Sept. 5.

There will be outdoor events, including art classes, family workshops, drum circles, tai chi, and walking tours of the sculptures throughout the museums Pamela and Robert B. Goergen Garden.

Additionally, Yappy Saturday events will welcome community members and their canine friends to enjoy the museums grounds. Art After Dark will continue throughout the summer with a weekly series of Friday evening live performances, film screenings, workshops, and tours. On view through Nov. 16, the Afterschool Arts Outreach Annual Exhibition will feature works by local students ages 7-17 and their teaching artists in the Nortons Afterschool Arts Outreach program.

Beginning October 1, 2021, guests visiting the Norton Museum of Art will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 professionally administered PCR test taken within 72 hours or a negative COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test conducted within 24 hours OR voluntarily show proof of COVID-19 vaccination . “At-home COVID-19 tests are not accepted. Norton Museum Of Art Brings Fall Exhibit Of Kahlo Rivera Works

Visitors to the Norton Museum of Art are in for a rare treat this fall: an exhibit gathering the largest group of works by legendary Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera to ever be exhibited at the museum.

Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection, will be on view at the Norton from Oct. 23 to Feb. 6. The exhibit features more than 150 works on paper, photographs, and costumes not only from Kahlo and Rivera but from other noteworthy artists such as Manuel and Lola Álvarez Bravo, Miguel Covarrubias, Gunther Gerzso, Graciela Iturbide, María Izquierdo, Carlos Mérida, Jose Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Juan Soriano and Rufino Tamayo.

Norton Museum Director and Chief Executive Officer Ghislain d’Humières said the exhibit was originally put in motion a year and a half ago by his predecessor, Elliot Bostwick Davis, and the Harold and Anne Berkley Smith Curator of American Art Ellen Roberts.

The exhibition presents holdings from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection of 20th Century Mexican Art and The Vergel Foundation. It is organized by Italian exhibition planner MondoMostre.

We really want to maximize this exhibit to make an impact,” D’Humières said. I think the exhibition will be very relevant to the local community.

The students will offer bilingual tours of the exhibit to Spanish speakers.

Art Wellness Exchange Coming To Norton Museum Of Art

An event that celebrates women at the Norton Museum of Art will also offer the opportunity to focus on your personal wellness.

The Women’s Walk Community Day is March 19 from 12 p.m. 5 p.m. at the Norton Museum of Art. The Art Wellness Exchange is one of the events planned. Pre-register here.

During the 90-minute Art Wellness Exchange event, licensed clinical social worker and founder of Hand Made Dreams Ashley Witherspoon will gather a small group of participants near a work of art in the Norton galleries.

I think the last couple of years, people are really ready to get out and interact with others, and learn from one another. Were able to reflect and share resources that have kind of kept us afloat during this time, she said.

The gathering is an opportunity for mental wellness and connection.

The museum is definitely a safe place, its open, its bright, and many people feel safe there. And theyre able to look at many different perspectives and reflect. And with the Art Wellness Exchange, were really able to get their thoughts about reflection. And not only their thoughts, but theyre able to share with the group and actually learn, and thats how were actually connecting the community together, Witherspoon said.

The art piece that will become the center of the discussion has been selected as an opportunity.

Witherspoon says the techniques learned in the session will be applicable in other aspects of life.

If a new year ushers in a restored resolve to visit Palm Beach Countys artistic havens, the recently reopened Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is the ideal starting point. Beginning January 2, its galleries will house three exhibitions that navigate the realms of immigration, systemic injustice, and racialized violence.

The Norton will host Colombian artist María Berríos first solo museum exhibition, Esperando Mientras la Noche Florece in the museums eighth Recognition of Art by Women series. Berrío creates expansive layers of Japanese paper that come together as fantastical natural vistas or modest domestic scenes. She explores the duality of resilience and vulnerability, particularly through her depictions of such dichotomies found in nature and within women. The Brooklyn-based artists survey will coincide with a residency through February.

Venture through the museum to Jose Alvarez : The Krome Drawings, featuring 30 ink portraits Alvarez made during his time in Miamis Krome immigration detention center a decade ago. The moving portraits of fellow detainees will be accompanied by their stories, humanizing and illuminating an often-shrouded issue.

Early Life And Education

Norman Robert Foster was born in 1935 in , two miles north of , then a part of . He was the only child of Robert and Lilian Foster . The family moved to , near , where they lived in poverty. His father was a machine painter at the works in , which influenced Norman to take up engineering, design, and, ultimately, architecture. His mother worked in a local bakery. Foster’s parents were diligent and hard workers who often had neighbours and family members look after her son, which Foster later believed restricted his relationship with his mother and father.

In 1956, Foster began study at the , part of the . He was ineligible for a , so he took part-time jobs to fund his studies, including an ice-cream salesman, bouncer, and night shifts at a bakery making . During this time, he also studied at the local library in Levenshulme. His talent and hard work was recognised in 1959 when he won £105 and a for what he described as “a measured drawing of a “. The windmill he drew was , . After graduating in 1961, Foster won the to in New Haven, Connecticut, where he met future business partner and earned his master’s degree. At the suggestion of , the pair travelled across America for a year.
