Internship Opportunities At The Dam

Nicole Laurin is the special project assistant for the Native Arts Artist-in-Residence program in the learning and engagement department at the Denver Art Museum. Nicole has been at the DAM since 2014 and her favorite artwork that has been on view here is Autumn, Peupliers, Éragny by Camille Pissarro.

When I first became an intern with family and community programs in May 2014, I was interested in working in museum education and in improving my skills by developing dynamic programming for families. I had completed a BA in art history and a masters in museum studies and this was the opportunity that pushed my career in the right direction. My summer internship solidified my passion for this field and I became a program facilitator in the fall, delivering and engaging our programs with visitors .

Nicole Laurin: What led you to apply for the internship?

Laura Levy: In previous internships I was doing mostly curatorial work and I did a few projects in education. I liked the idea of working more directly with the public, so I decided to apply for an internship with family and community programs. Also, I enjoy working with kids.

Denver Art Museum is over-rated. I neither like their exhibitions nor their work style. Even though they are non-profit and pay you way less, they expect you to just dedicate your life to their work. They have minimal understanding for your personal situation. Their health insurance is a disappointment. You can use it Only for doctors in the metro Denver area. So, it will not work in the suburbs or in Boulder or Fort Collins. They give you Zero reimbursement for parking. So, being in Downtown, you will be paying every single day for your parking. No snacks for employees of any kind. If you are considering working here, just know that: You will be working long hours as if you are working for a for-profit firm however, given Denver’s high cost of living, your pay will be a total joke. No perks of working here. They only care about themselves.

Become A Visitor Ambassador Volunteer

Do you enjoy talking to people? The Denver Art Museum seeks new volunteers to greet and assist our visitors to ensure a meaningful and enjoyable museum experience. We know from our surveys that visitors rate their museum experience much higher if they have interacted with a staff member or volunteer. Our Visitor Ambassador volunteers are positioned throughout the museum campus greeting and directing visitors at entrances and other key locations and assisting them in wayfinding and designing their visit.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to half days per year for a between the hours of 9:30am to 1 pm or 12:304 pm . We are asking for a total commitment of at least one year. Shifts are scheduled every day of the week with a greater need on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Do you enjoy connecting and empowering Colorado youth? Join the Denver Art Museums team and connect with PreK, Grade 5 students, or middle and high school students in the museum! We are currently recruiting new volunteers to work with school groups and we would love to talk to you more about your interest.
