When I first became an intern with family and community programs in May 2014, I was interested in working in museum education and in improving my skills by developing dynamic programming for families. I had completed a BA in art history and a masters in museum studies and this was the opportunity that pushed my career in the right direction. My summer internship solidified my passion for this field and I became a program facilitator in the fall, delivering and engaging our programs with visitors .

Nicole Laurin: What led you to apply for the internship?

Laura Levy: In previous internships I was doing mostly curatorial work and I did a few projects in education. I liked the idea of working more directly with the public, so I decided to apply for an internship with family and community programs. Also, I enjoy working with kids.

NL: What kinds of projects did you work on while interning for family programs?

NL: What skills did you develop through the internship?

NL: What is your favorite program you worked on?

About Denver Art Museum

Researched & Written by Alexis Reale on the FlexJobs Team

The Denver Art Museum, formerly known as the Denver Artists Club, is a nonprofit, educational art museum located in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1893, the Denver Art Museum is now one of the largest museums west of Chicago, and is home to over 70,000 pieces that range from Spanish Colonial and western American art to modern contemporary and textiles. The Denver Art Museum acts as both an educational and architectural monument for the city of Denver, offering the community access to over 350,000 square feet of temporary and permanent art exhibitions. In addition, the Denver Art Museum provides support for public art offerings and scholarships and manages a preservation program to ensure that future generations continue to have the opportunity to learn about different cultures around the world. As an employer, the Denver Art Museum offers part-time work opportunities.

Denver Art Museum Comments And Reviews

Here’s what people are saying about Denver Art Museum. Company reviews can provide helpful insights into the company culture, working conditions, benefits, compensation, and training opportunities in Denver Art Museum. They may also reveal information or provide tips on interviewing skill requirements, and other factors that could help when applying for a position at that company. Reviews may also highlight any negative aspects of a company that will help in evaluating it as a prospective employer.

Denver Art Museum is over-rated. I neither like their exhibitions nor their work style. Even though they are non-profit and pay you way less, they expect you to just dedicate your life to their work. They have minimal understanding for your personal situation. Their health insurance is a disappointment. You can use it Only for doctors in the metro Denver area. So, it will not work in the suburbs or in Boulder or Fort Collins. They give you Zero reimbursement for parking. So, being in Downtown, you will be paying every single day for your parking. No snacks for employees of any kind. If you are considering working here, just know that: You will be working long hours as if you are working for a for-profit firm however, given Denver’s high cost of living, your pay will be a total joke. No perks of working here. They only care about themselves.

Not a lot of upward mobility. You get a job and you keep that job for a good long while. Good for some, bad for others.

Many incredible people and coworkers, get to learn about and spend time around art

The front lines folks are some of the best people youll ever meet. There is so much underutilized creativity there. The museum itself is pretty amazing. The marketing team really knows what theyre doing when it comes to branding. You get to say you work at the Denver Art Museum.

Depending on the department you work in this could be a great place to work. The people who manage the front lines are great.
