Set in an architecturally innovative circular building on the banks of the Scioto River, this museum that opened in October commemorates and celebrates the lives of American military personnel. The stories of individual veterans and themes of challenge, sacrifice and achievement are explored in the museums galleries. The dis-play culminates in the Remembrance Gallery with space for reflection in the glow of a floor-to-ceiling stained-glass installation inspired by military campaign ribbons.
Admission: $17, $15 for seniors 65 and older, $12 for college students with ID, $10 for children 5 17. Active-duty military and military veterans are admitted free.
The Butler Institute Of American Art

The Butler, the first museum in the world to focus exclusively on American art, celebrates its centennial this year. Special exhibits include A Century of Fashion by Pete Ballard and Mark Perrot: Ancient Ink. The permanent collection includes such iconic pieces as Snap the Whip by Winslow Homer, Pennsylvania Coal Town by Edward Hopper and Lincoln the Railsplitter by Norman Rockwell.

Ohios only outdoor passion play, in its 45th season, recounts the life and ministry of Christ in an 800-seat, 400-foot-wide panoramic outdoor theater. The play, which takes place most Fridays and Saturdays, is a 2½-hour two-act with reenactments of the Sermon on the Mount, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection and more. A tour of the set and special music are offered starting an hour before each performance. Crucifixed, a youth rally and concert, will take place Aug. 17 and The Jerusalem Experience, a family-fun carnival, takes place Sept. 7 .

The story behind such statements is complicated, but heres a summary:
In June 2020, days after George Floyds death, New York artist Shaun Leonardo publicly accused MOCA Cleveland of censoring him by canceling an exhibition of his drawings of police killings of unarmed Black men and boys.
The museum took its unusual step to avoid traumatizing community members who had experienced police violence, but the ineptness of the cancellation demonstrated to some critics that the institution, however well-intentioned, was also out of touch with other members of the citys Black community.
In April 2021, following her turbulent, two-year curatorial fellowship at MOCA, La Tanya Autry, a curator and activist who is Black, published an opinion piece in the online journal Hyperallergic accusing MOCA Cleveland of creating and sustaining a racist environment and a culture of anti-Blackness.
Autry also accused the museum of canceling a show she was working on until she threatened to go public.
Within weeks of the publication of the article, however, MOCA withdrew from The Regional, a major exhibition on contemporary art in the Midwest that it had co-organized with the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati and the Kemper Art Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City. The show is moving on to those venues as scheduled.

On February 19, 1803, U.S. president signed an act of Congress that approved Ohio’s boundaries and constitution. However, Congress had never passed a formal resolution admitting Ohio as the 17th state, a custom not introduced until ‘s admission as the 18th state. Although no formal resolution of admission was required, when the oversight was discovered in 1953, as Ohio began preparations for celebrating its sesquicentennial, Ohio congressman introduced a bill in Congress to admit Ohio to the Union retroactive to March 1, 1803, the date on which the first convened. At a special session at the old state capital in , the Ohio state legislature approved a new petition for statehood which was delivered to Washington, D.C., on horseback, and approved that August.
Ohio has had three capital cities: Chillicothe, , and . Chillicothe was the capital from 1803 to 1810. The capital was then moved to Zanesville for two years, as part of a state legislative compromise to get a bill passed. The capital was then moved back to Chillicothe, which was the capital from 1812 to 1816. Finally, the capital was moved to Columbus, to have it near the geographic center of the state.

CLEVELAND If youve ever wanted to explore contemporary art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland is just the place for you.
The museum even offers special events that can allow you to soak up the exhibits with your kids.
The best thing about it? You dont have to be well-versed in in art, only an openness and curiosity.
“This museum is for everyone and whatever you bring with you. Whoever you are, you are welcome here,” said Nicole Ledinek, curator of education and engagement. You have the right tools, you have the right experience. What makes this museum different from other museums is the having conversations about what the art means to you and what your questions are about the art.
Every Saturday you can explore the galleries with special scavenger hunts. The kids can bring that curiosity back home with creative take-away art kits.
The exhibitions change every three to four months. Over the course of the year there will be three different exhibition seasons. Within the seasons, there may be anywhere between 2-7 exhibitions.

National Museum Of The United States Air Force

This friendly winery, open Fridays and Saturdays, added beer-making to its repertoire last year, making it Union Countys only craft brewery. Late 20th And Early 21st Centuries
After the war, Cleveland initially experienced an economic boom, and businesses declared the city to be the “best location in the nation”. In 1949, the city was named an for the first time and, in 1950, its population reached 914,808. In sports, the Indians won the , the hockey team, the , became champions of the American Hockey League, and the dominated professional in the 1950s. As a result, along with track and boxing champions produced, Cleveland was declared the “City of Champions” in sports at this time. The 1950s also saw the rising popularity of a new music genre that local disc jockey dubbed “”.
However, by the 1960s, Cleveland’s economy began to slow down, and residents increasingly sought new housing in the suburbs, reflecting the national trends of suburban growth following federally subsidized highways. Industrial restructuring, particularly in the railroad and steel industries, resulted in the loss of numerous jobs in Cleveland and the region, and the city suffered economically. The in June 1969 brought national attention to the issue of in Cleveland and served as a catalyst for the .
The city began a gradual economic recovery under Mayor in the 1980s. The downtown area saw the construction of the and skyscrapers, as well as the development of the consisting of and and the North Coast Harbor, including the , , and the . The city emerged from default in 1987.
