Explore The Roar Dinosaurs Are Back At The Cox Science Center

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Prepare your paleontology gear! Thursday morning WPTV NewsChannel 5 got a sneak peek at the new dinosaur exhibit opening today at the Cox Science Center.

“‘Dinosaur Explorer,’ it actually takes us through time. And we explore all the dinosaurs obviously, but it actually compares it to humans. So we can see how our body temperature is compared to theirs. We can actually explore their brains compared to ours. We can see what it would be like to walk with a dinosaur. And there’s a lot of virtual elements to this,” said Chris Ortiz who is the assistant director of education and STEAM at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium.

There are dynamic animatronic displays and several kid-friendly activities.

“You get to design your own dinosaur, which is really awesome. You get to see it interact with other dinosaurs with a giant sandpit. That you can actually take and build the landscape for the dinosaurs. You can walk with the dinosaurs. So we’ve got a lot going on in this exhibit on I think it’s really awesome,” Ortiz said.

Dinosaur Revolution Roars Into Science Center For The Summer

The South Florida Science Centers summer exhibit, Dinosaur Revolution, is roaring into West Palm Beach on April 24 and staying through Nov. 28.

The popular exhibit is presented by Minotaur Mazes, the same company that produced Rainforest Adventure, a Science Center favorite which ran in 2019. Ranging over 2,500 square feet in the main exhibit hall, Dinosaur Revolution will give visitors an exciting, in-depth look at one of their favorite topics, and the opportunity to puzzle and problem-solve while stepping into the skin of their favorite dinosaur.

This powerful combination of role-play and study creates an unforgettable experience that will inspire older visitors to take a fresh look at this prehistoric topic and encourage young visitors to look to the future as they learn more about this fascinating subject, said Kate Arrizza, president and CEO of the Science Center. We are still upholding strict cleaning and social distancing practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since re-opening on Memorial Day weekend 2020, we have not had a single case of the virus throughout our programming. Safety is paramount, and we cant wait to welcome visitors to this fun and educational exhibit.

Dinosaurs Come To Life At Cox Science Center

Children checking out the animatronic dinosaur at the Cox Science Center exhibit “Dinosaur Explorer.”

Many have wondered what it would be like to live among dinosaurs and perhaps to be up close to the nonthreatening, non-meat-eating herbivores among them.

At Cox Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach, people of all ages can come as close as possible to finding out. Its Dinosaur Explorer exhibit, which opened Sept. 15, features animatronic dinosaurs from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.

Its been extremely successful and very well-attended, says Genevieve Nye, the director of marketing for Cox Science Center and Aquarium. Its a great exhibit and a lot of fun. All the dinosaurs are animatronic, meaning theyre like living, breathing, moving dinosaurs. There are sensors as you walk by them, so they start moving and making noises. Its what paleontologists thought they were like back then.

Sponsored by the Cox Science Center and Aquarium.

The exhibit is a valuable learning tool. In addition to showing how dinosaurs are linked genetically to birds, the interactive displays show the characteristics that paleontologists believe humans share with these extinct creatures, including environmental, biological and behavioral factors such as feeding, intelligence, families and interpersonal relationships.

Dinosaur Explorers authentic, larger-than-life animatronic replications give visitors opportunities to interact and learn.

Dinosaur Museums In Florida

Most of what is now Florida was under water during the Ice Age, when a variety of dinosaurs roamed the Midwest and Northeast portions of today’s United States. During later prehistoric periods, however, beginning around 13,000 B.C., early mammals, like the mastodon and mammoth, inhabited Florida. Remains of these creatures are on display throughout the state.
