Take A Safari In Your Car At Lion Country Safari

Norton Museum hosts Easter celebration in West Palm Beach

Providing an up-close look at exotic animals since 1967, and believed to be the first cage-less zoo in the United States, Lion Country Safari was a pioneer in the zoo world when it opened more than 50 years ago, introducing a new concept in zoology and tourism. It offered families a chance to experience of an African safari at a fraction of the cost and time.

Recently the park has been named one of the top 20 safari parks in the country. Chosen as one of the top 20 by zoo and travel experts, the drive-through park in Loxahatchee could soon find itself in the top 10 or even number one in USA Today’s “10 Best” Reader’s Choice contest.

In addition to allowing guests an up-close look at these incredible animals in a natural setting, the park also participates in many conservation and roughly 35 breeding programs for threatened species, including rhinoceros, zebra, oryx, siamangs, and more.

The Mall At The Center Of It All

Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida

While the term “shopping mall” has begun to feel as outdated as Walkmans, Sears, and bottom-lid eyeliner, Palm Beach’s Royal Poinciana Plaza is far from irrelevant. The stunning midcentury structure was designed by John Volk and inspired by Paris’s Palais-Royal and is home to some of the city’s chicest New York outposts, high-end retail spaces, and exciting events. Not only is Pace’s satellite location there but Acquavella, Sotheby’s, and Lévy Gorvy all have outposts.

Sarah Gavlak’s namesake gallery also resides in Royal Poinciana Plaza among other tenants adored by New Yorkers, like Sant Ambroeus and Soulcycle , but the gallerist saw Palm Beach’s potential as the next great art community nearly 20 years ago, long before the resort town became the best of Manhattan. And, as Raddock says, with 98 percent of Palm Beach’s one percent visiting Royal Poinciana Plaza while in town, it’s the perfect place to grow and stretch the resident’s appreciation for contemporary art and to foster a deeper community of dedicated collectors.

The South Florida Town Awash With Ultra

The snowbirds of Palm Beach are now year-round beach birds, and the recent influx of dealers and bankers to the Florida enclavewho followed the super-rich south in autumn 2020are there to stay. Acquavella gallery has signed a lease until June 2022. Paula Cooper, which initially committed to a six-month lease, is now there for the foreseeable future. And Pace looks to be a long-term prospect, having sold out shows of works by Sam Gilliam, Robert Nava, Julian Schnabel and Tara Donovan last season and recently hired former Salon 94 specialist Allison Raddock to run the space.

The Sothebys Palm Beach outpost is also pretty permanent, says David Schrader, the auction houses global head of private sales, noting that the space is open seven days a week year-round, along with the other art businesses located at the Royal Poinciana Plaza shopping mall.

Dealers in Palm Beach are consequently rotating shows in some cases every two to four weeks, a strategy that seems to be paying off. Businesses are reporting robust sales to institutions as well as collectors in the region. Among sales in Palm Beach over the past year, Paula Cooper placed an early Claes Oldenburg with the Norton Museum of Art an important work by Luciano Fabro with the Margulies Collection in Miami and a work by Veronica Ryan with the Pérez Art Museum Miami, which was bought as a gift for the museum.

Foster + Partners With Cbt Architects 1/5

After celebrating its 75th anniversary, the Norton Museum of Art announced its plans work with architects at Foster + Partners and CBT to renovate and expand its facilities to offer a multifaceted experience for its visitors. Acentech was then selected by the design team to provide acoustics, audiovisual, and vibration consulting for the project.

Within this newly imagined space, designers looked to engage patrons of different tastes and viewpoints. Sitting on 6.8 acres of lush, subtropical greenery, the Norton Museum of Art expansion blends the lines between the great outdoors and interior gallery space by offering lawn-side film screenings, access to natural light in virtually every exhibition space, and a re-designed front lobby.

Acentechs team of acousticians and audiovisual system designers provided expert guidance on creating the best sensory experience possible within this redesigned museum. Sound and sight are key aspects to visitors abilities to connect with pieces showcased in the galleries. Reverberation mitigation, mechanical system noise and vibration control, and sound isolation from outdoor noise allow interior and exterior spaces co-exist in harmony. Sound system design for live performances and lectures helps the museum further enhance its cultural contributions to the West Palm Beach community.

Exhibition: June 17 July 30, 2022Artist Reception: June 17, 5 7 p.m.

Amy S. Broderick uses forgotten photographs, discarded office supplies, found atlases, and related ephemera to make complex paper compositions. She cuts and weaves each page by hand to make elaborate layered structures and images. Her work marks the passing of time, as forgotten slivers of other peoples daily lives coalesce to tell new tales. This exhibition invites viewers to imagine a space where obsolescence and disconnection become the warp and weft of new territories. Broderick is a professor at Florida Atlantic University.
