Thoughthis is the official hotel of the Hermitage Museum, it’s notsituated anywhere near the museum, which is a 15-minute drive away.The hotel operates a shuttle bus to ferry guests to and from themuseum. Most of the city’s attractions are not within walkingdistance either, but the area has good transportation links, with theVladimirskaya Metro station a short walk away.

We’re fond of walking, and enjoyed walking to and from just about everywhere. Even in December! The rooms are very pleasant and clean, and the staff is attentive. They’re a little on the young side, so not always as experienced as in other 5* hotels – perhaps not perfect yet at predicting your needs, but fully ready to listen and pitch in. For our latest stay, the hotel was decked out for Christmas, and they did a lovely job. TheState Hermitage Museum Official Hotel is a large stately buildinglocated on a wide St. Petersburg street. Its facade is neo-classicaland dominated by a row of Ionic columns. The building dates back tothe 1830s, when it was the home of a local merchant. The impressivelobby area, completely covered in white marble with gold accents, isspacious and bright. The round glass-ceiling atrium supported byDoric columns lets in plenty of light, highlighting a reproduction ofa famous vase from the Hermitage Museum collection displayed below.The lobby also showcases several other reproductions of fine artworks and sculptures, the originals of which are displayed in themuseum. A large grand piano occupies a section of the lobby, andthere are several seating areas made up of elegant sofas upholsteredin tones of ivory and light beige. The hotel attempts to recreate theatmosphere of the Winter Palace, and it succeeds, without going overthe top. Even the doormen uniforms are inspired by the costumesonce worn by the servants of the Russian royal family.
