Long Island Childrens Museum
The Long Island Childrens Museum is one of the most unique New York metro area museums and top things to do on Long Island with kids.Whether youre a local or visiting, the museums many exhibits and hands-on centers are sure to wow children from birth through school-age! Color Factory Is Coming To Nyc
The pop-up color experience Color Factory, which was a huge hit in San Francisco, is now coming to New York! Opening August 20th, the 20,000-square-foot interactive exhibit in Soho features 16 color installations by a roster of top artists and designers. There are surprises around every corner, says co-creator Jordan Ferney. We designed what we wanted to experience. Heres a first look
Guests flow through the exhibit, starting with Tokyo-based architect Emmanuelle Moureauxs 100 Colors. It features rows of dangling paper strips, inspired by traditional Japanese sliding screens.
As you walk through, you read the fascinating histories behind 26 unusual colors written by Kassia St. Clair. Other rooms include rainbow cookies zipping by on a conveyor belt and a walkable infographic.
Our goal is to make a kid think this the most fun thing in the entire world on a surface level, says Jordan. And for an adult to be fulfilled by the same things like the light-up dance floor but also the funny, special, even serious moments you have to look more closely to find.
The pit, with 500,000 balls, feels like going to the ocean, says co-creator Leah Rosenberg. Its fun and playful, but theres also a white noise thing that ends up happening, which is calming.
Prop stylist Randi Brookman Harris curated the playful gift shop, with rainbow umbrellas and polka-dot socks. A portion of every sale goes to charity.

Color Factory Goes Big In Chicago
Tickets will be on sale soon for the latest Color Factory, in Chicago. Set to open in June, it is located within Catalog, a dining, retail and immersive entertainment destination at the base of the citys Willis Tower . At over 25,000 sq ft, it will be the biggest Color Factory to date. There will be fewer individual installations 12 in total than in New York or Houston, however, each room will be larger.
Among other installations, guests will be able to encounter a site-specific iteration of Edra Sotos GRAFT series. This features photos from Akilah Townsend. Other featured artists with local ties will be Adrian Kay Wong and Emile Baltz.
The latters contribution will be what Malhotra describes as, A really cool flavorama. Its all about how your sense of sight and colour can influence your sense of smell.
From Camille Walala, who is working with Color Factory for the first time, will come a Chicago architecture inspired maze. Her patterns, her use of colour on a large scale is what drew us towards her, says Malhotra.
The other featured artists will be Liz West, Anne Patterson, Christine Wong Yap, Harvey & John, Michele Bernhardt, and Tomislav Topic .
We are fortunate that in Chicago there are multiple scenic shops that have been really great partners to work with, says Malhotra.

Museum Of The Moving Image
A visually delightful and highly interactive experience, the Museum of the Moving Image is a perfect NYC destination for families. With a robust collection of costumes, artifacts, and props, including the sesame street characters, the museum covers a range of motion pictures and famous television shows loved by all ages. Smaller than its more famous counterparts, families can explore the entire museum in 1.5-3 hours.
The museum offers admission Wednesday through Sunday with free admission hours on Friday evenings. It is least crowded on weekdays but Saturday is a family favorite when drop-in studio interactive sessions are offered along with themed, Mornings at MoMI, special family hours the first and last Saturday of each month. Be sure to plan ahead for young children as strollers and backpacks must be coat-checked at the entrance and cannot be used in the galleries. Families will have a wonderful time in the core exhibit Behind the Screen where kids can add sound effects and music to movies or star in their own flip-book. More fun will be had within the Jim Henson Exhibition making their own puppets and recording a puppet show.

Dont Forget About Manhattan Color Walk
In the summer of 2018, the creative team behind Color Factory installed a unique exhibit called Manhattan Color Walk in the garden of Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. Resembling a super rainbow, each colored stripe in the installation pays a special homepage to the colors and special moments of the citys 265 streets, from the uppermost part of Manhattan at West 220th Street down to Battery Park.
A fun fact: The Color Factory team walked over 50 miles and took more than a thousand photos over a few weeks to create this portrait of the city. There is also a color guide detailing the sources of the photographs and the stories behind the colors.

Is Color Factory Worth It
Yes! This cool museum has fun interactive installations, colorful rooms, photo ops, and treats along the way. If you want to take Instagrammable photos or want to see something beautiful, this is your best choice.
It is a bit short, though, and you can explore more rooms in less than 5 minutes. And considering the admission costs over $100 for two people, we probably wont come back for a second visit – unless we are back to take more of their macaroons, which are delicious and, of course, colorful.

Docked at the Hudson River in NYC, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, a distinctive floating museum is one of the most kid-friendly museums in NYC. A decommissioned ship, USS Intrepid, which served as an aircraft carrier in the Cold War, the Vietnam War, and World War II is converted into a museum you see today.

The Metropolitan Museum Of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is not only the largest museum in New York City, but it is also one of the coolest for kids. The Met has two locations the main museum on Fifth Avenue and the Cloisters in northern Manhattan, which houses their medieval collection. The Cloisters has several cloisters taken from medieval monasteries and relocated to NYC. Kids will have fun exploring the courtyards and narrow staircases.
At the main Met museum, there are all sorts of cool places to explore. Children will love walking inside an actual Egyptian temple and seeing all sorts of ancient mummies and sarcophagi. There is also the rooftop terrace in summer, where the whole family can enjoy stunning views of Central Park and an art installation that changes each year. Plus, a Chinese courtyard, a huge armor collection, annual fashion exhibitions, and much more.

Colour is a universal language. It has a unique and powerful ability to impact moods, elicit emotions and tell stories, says Malhotra.
Its therefore surprising a museum dedicated to colour has never been done before. I dont believe it has, says Color Factorys CEO. But certainly there are exhibits that focus on colour.
An example would be Color Factorys own collaboration with the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York.
Every hue represented at Color Factory is paired with a sensory experience to unleash the power and impact of colour. Those experiences aim to awaken natural curiosity and encourage uninhibited play. Even for grown-ups. Especially for grown-ups. Whilst there are core experiences common across locations, no two Color Factory outlets are the same.
We always take inspiration from the city, says Malhotra. The architecture, the people, the neighbourhoods, the symbols. For example, in Chicago, the colour for our ball pit is going to be green. That takes inspiration from the citys awesome St Patricks Day tradition, where they dye the river green.
We have a room in Houston based upon memories tied to certain senses. So if you are smelling grass you are automatically thinking of the colour green. There is a lot of scientific exploration of colour, and we are showcasing that in our spaces.
To tease their taste buds, guests are also given edible treats from local partners, included in the ticket price.
