Lisa and Jerry Simon choose to make a difference in the world by serving others and giving back to their community.
A native of Houston, Lisa is chairman of MFT Interests, a family-owned real estate investment business. She has a bachelors degree from Houston Baptist University and graduated from the Southwest Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. Lisa previously served 12 years as chairman of the board of Southern National Bank.
To Lisa, success is measured by the quality of our service and our relationship to the community where we live and work. Lisa is a member of the board of trustees of Memorial Hermann Hospital Foundation Uptown Houston District Board Thomas Jeffersons Poplar Forest in Lynchburg, Virginia and the McNair Center Development Board Charter. She currently serves as president of the Joella and Stewart Morris Foundation and recently served on the boards of The Museum of Southern History and the Oldham Little Church Foundation, the board of trustees of Houston Baptist University, and as past president of the Rivercrest Civic Association.
She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Colonists. Lisa also belongs to the American Museum Society of Houston Baptist University and is a board member of The Ladies for Literacy Guild.

Contemporary Art Gallery Website
The mission of the Contemporary Art Gallery is to encourage contemporary artists to challenge and educate public perceptions of civic and social ideas and aesthetic and spiritual consciousness. The gallery functions as a teaching laboratory, hosts gallery tours and lectures by art department faculty and visiting artists, and periodically tours its exhibitions to other exhibition venues.

Degrees and Programs
Initially, the College offered only a Bachelor of Arts degree with academic courses in five divisions: Christianity, Fine Arts, Languages, Science and Mathematics, and Social Studies. The Board of Trustees, following the recommendation of the faculty and administration, authorized the establishment of the Division of Education and Psychology in 1964 and a Division of Business and Economics in 1966. With the opening of the fall semester of 1969, the College added a Division of Nursing, offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
In 1966, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools recognized Houston Baptist College as an official candidate for accreditation. The highlight of the 1968-69 academic year was the granting of initial accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools on December 4, 1968. A visiting committee made a careful study of the College in March 1971 and upon its recommendation, the Commission on Colleges extended accreditation for ten years. This accreditation was reaffirmed in 1981, 1991, 2001, and 2012. In 1965, the Texas Education Agency first approved Houston Baptist College for the training of certified teachers for elementary and secondary Schools. During its first semester, representatives selected by the Texas Education Agency evaluated the teacher education program approval of the program was continued.

The Museum of Southern History showcases the history of the South during the mid-1800s. Visitors to the museum can view room settings, cases, and dioramas to view clothing, fine furnishings, uniforms, tools, and weapons that help convey a sense of those who settled in the Houston region and how they rebuilt their lives after the Civil War.Youll get to see a replica of a Victorian-era Southern dining room, a ladys bedroom from the period, a room showcasing weapons of the era and more. The Museum of Southern History is now located at the Morris Cultural Arts Center on the campus of Houston Baptist University along with the the Museum of American Architecture and Decorative Arts and the Dunham Bible Museum. The museum requests a nominal admissions fee. Guided tours take approximately 30-45 minutes. There is also an on-site gift shop with many pieces relating to Southern history.

Holding one of the most extensive collections of rare bibles in the nation, the Dunham Bible Museums exhibits include ancient manuscripts, medieval scriptures, a working Gutenberg-style printing press, some of the first Bibles printed in America and even some of the earliest Bibles printed in the English languageall creatively displayed to show the Bibles history and impact on civilization and culture.
Community Life And Worship
Eighty Community Life and Worship Credits are required for graduation from HBU. Transfer students are also allotted 0.75 CLW Credits for each credit hour transferred into the university. CLW Credits may be accrued from a variety of opportunities including: campus service, a weekly traditional chapel service known as Convocation, a weekly student-led contemporary worship service known as Quest, small group Bible studies, lecture series and through the Assisting Communities Through Students office which coordinates community service and volunteer work in the Houston community. The on-campus “Community Life and Worship” biyearly magazine lists the different opportunities through which students may earn CLW Credits. The spiritual life office also awards Credits for students who participate in church or university sponsored mission trips.
The university was granted an exception to Title IX in 2017 which allows it to legally discriminate against LGBT students for religious reasons. University president Robert Sloan has stated that gay people do not need civil rights protections because like “a tendency towards arson or theft” homosexuality is a sinful tendency.
HBU, which was a member of NCAADivision I until moving to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in 1989, began its transition back to Division I in 20072008. The Huskies field teams in 17 sports.
