Since its opening day on D-Day June 6, 2000 nearly two million visitors have toured the National WWII Museum. A must-see for history lovers and all patriots, it has been designated by the U.S. Congress as Americas official WWII Museum. Powerful images and extraordinary artifacts bring to life the American Spirit, the courage, teamwork and sacrifice of the young men and women who won the war and changed the world. From the 1930s prelude to war, to the Normandy Invasion and the battles of the Pacific Islands, visitors trace America’s role in the war and on the Home Front.
The Victory Solomon Theater Pavilion is home to the Solomon Victory Theater, featuring the exclusive cinematic experience from producer Tom Hanks, Beyond All Boundaries the Stage Door Canteen, a unique entertainment venue that showcases the music of the war years as sung by The Victory Belles and The American Sector Restaurant + Bar.

We are coming for a visit next Thursday 6/14, and Friday, June 15 and would love to take our 5 kids to the WWII museum, in addition to the other activities on our list. The problem is the $147 price tag!

Do you have a AAA membership? If so, you may be able to get a small discount with that.
Depending on what else you want to do this pass which includes the WWII Museum may save you money. Another benefit is that at most attractions you jump to the front of any lines which at times can be formidable helping you get the most of your stay in
Having taken 2 history loving kids there last year I would be leery of recommending you spend that much to get in if money is an issue. While we enjoyed our visit we just weren’t as crazy about it as lots of people are. It was very crowded which made an issue for reading signage and doing the dog tag interaction. The kids did love the movie though.

John E Kushner Restoration Pavilion
Look through the pavilions glass to witness the restoration of WWII artifacts in progress.
Currently under restoration is a Higgins Industries PT boat, PT-305 that was built in New Orleans and saw service in the Mediterranean theater.
When restoration is complete the patrol torpedo boat PT-305 will be launched into her home waters of Lake Pontchartrain.
Following two to three months of testing, PT 305 will be moved to a custom-built boathouse and opened to the public.

This center relays the story of a country as it mobilized for war and the men and women who did their part on the home front by producing airplanes, submarines, and military machinery.
You will see vintage aircraft, tanks, and personnel carriers.

Getting To The Museum
The museum is located at 945 Magazine Street, nine blocks from Canal St. and the French Quarter
One of the easiest ways to get here is by using the streetcar. The closest stops are served by line 12 on St Charles Street at Lee Circle.

Alternatively, there are also bus stops very close to the National WW2 Museum on Magazine Street. These stops are serviced by lines 10, 11, and 100.
The New Orleans hop-on-hop-off bus tour also provides a stop at the museum.
The Real Image Of War: Steichen And Ford In The Pacific
The cameras use of chemistry and mechanics married with the human perspective created one of the most powerful tools of war and artand an invaluable resource for recording the memory of World War II. By demonstrating the technology of the camera, using dramatic imagery and footage of everything from combat to the ordinary life of the US Navy sailor, The Real Image of War will probe the supposed objectivity of documentary photography and examine the motives of the men behind the camera who created a visual record of the war in the Pacific.
