The Shop At The Museum Of Natural History

This museum is one of the best places in the city to bring kids of all ages, and the shop doesnt disappoint in that respect, either. For the littlest ones, there are plush T-rexes and seahorses , nature-themed story books, and punny onesies. For everyone else, there are at-home experiment kits and other S.T.E.M.-heavy toys and games, NASA-branded tees, and backpacks featuring holographic constellations. There are even a few great pieces for the grown-ups who fell in love with the gems and minerals exhibit, like elegant onyx vases and paperweights.

Solomon R Guggenheim Museum

First opened in the Upper East Side, Guggenheim Museum, also known as the Guggenheim, features both a permanent and an ever-changing rotation of exhibits.

Twenty years later, in 1959, the museum moved from rented space to its current building, a landmark work of 20th-century architecture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

If the current exhibits arent to your taste, the sheer wonder of the building itself is enough to incite an incredible feeling of awe. Inside, a variety of unique architectures will make the building fun to photograph inside and out.

For first-time visitors, starting from the top floor and working your way down is probably the best option. As you rise in the tremendous spiral rotunda, remember to peer down at the crowds, which is a work of art itself.

  • Admission is $25 for adults, $18 for students, seniors and disabled people, and free for children under 12 and members.

The American Numismatic Society

Coins document the beautiful and historically significant past, which makes them appealing for many people to collect. If you are one of them, you will love the American Numismatic Society, which is dedicated to the study and collection of coins and currency.

However, unlike the coin collection you had growing up with, the museum strives to include all civilizations based on a tangible monetary system. Here, you can peruse over 800,000 objects dating back to 650 BCE and stop by the numismatic library, which houses approximately 100,000 books, documents, and artifacts.

  • Admission is $50 per person, and free for members and students with valid ID. If you are visiting in a group, mail curatorial@numismatics.org for reservation. Also, don’t forget to bring your government-issued photo ID.

Museum Of Food And Drink

It sounds as generic as they come: a museum of food, the most basic human need. However, the Museum of Food and Drink is different in that it seeks to change the way you think of food or drink by showcasing how it impacts our culture, politics, economy, history, and more.

Some of the highlights here include the Flavor: Making it and Faking It exhibit, a smell synth that allows you to mix a variety of aromas from vomit to pancakes to create endless combinations, or Chow, which digs into how Chinese restaurants began and evolved in the U.S. in a period of intense anti-Chinese immigrant sentiment.

There is also tasting at the end of the exhibits.
