The Titanic museum today has over 400 genuine Titanic artifacts in its galleries on display. None of them have been altered or forged and none of them have been retrieved from the wreck of the Titanic. All of the items on display were carried off the sinking ship and into the lifeboats by the passengers – or they were recovered from the floating debris field following the sinking.

The Titanic museum goes to lengths to say that their museum is much more than just another tourist trap. Instead, visitors describe it as “Disney-like”, and “elegant and inspiring”. It was built at half scale using the original plans that Harland & Wolff used to construct the real Titanic. It has been built to be authentic.

Rare Artifacts On Temporary Display

Through April 10, two additional and rare artifacts are on display at the Pigeon Forge museum. Titanic survivor Helen Churchill Candee gave a silver brandy flask and a pendant a family heirloom to a Edward Kent as he escorted her to the lifeboats. Mrs. Candee believed Mr. Kent would survive before she would. The items were in Kents jacket pocket when his body was recovered from the cold sea.

The flask and the pendant remained in the Candee family until her granddaughter put the brandy flask up for auction at the Henry Aldridge & Son Auction House in England. Both artifacts will remain at the museum until April 10. They will then be auctioned off in London, according to a Titanic Museum press release.

Plan Your Visit To The Titanic Belfast Museum

Let’s Play Where’s An Egg

Should you check out the Titanic Belfast museum? Absolutely! If youre even mildly intrigued in the story of the Titanic, you should make time in your busy travel schedule to check it out. In addition to the Titanic Belfast and the museum indoors, you can also visit the old Belfast shipyards outdoors.

While I dont tend to seek out museums when I have a limited amount of time in a city, Im really glad that I visited this one. The interactive exhibits present the information in an entertaining, thorough, and thought provoking manner.

While audio guides arent included with admission, you can rent them at an additional cost. I didnt find that they were necessary, but some visitors enjoy having the audio guide for more details. For those who are interested, theres also a gift shop and a gallery café. The Titanic store has lots of unique gifts and Titanic related memorabilia.

Aim to spend at least a couple of hours here. Sometimes there are special events and exhibitions. Be sure to check out the Titanic Belfast website for all the details. I recommend booking your tickets in advance. There are a limited amount of people allowed to visit per day, and you dont want to arrive to be turned away at the door.

Now You Can View In Precise Detail What The Famous Ship Looked Like In Our Titanic Exhibit

An exact replica of the Titanic is on display at Discovery Station. It is one of the largest models of the legendary ship ever constructed and took ten years to build. Created by Norman Little from plans and drawings of the original ship, the one-sixtieth scale navigable craft is over fifteen feet in length, weighs 500 pounds, and contains over one thousand portholes. Authentic fittings, stained glass, and passenger replicas add to the realism and historical exactness of the Titanic exhibit.

The award-winning Titanic model you will see has been featured on TV, in newspapers and magazines, and on the cover of Model Tech magazine. It is seaworthy and has been sailed by radio control on waterways in Florida, where it was built.

On April 10, 1912, the Titanic, the worlds largest and most impressive passenger steamship afloat, left Southampton, England, for New York on its much publicized maiden voyage. Although it was thought to be an unsinkable ship, the Titanic struck an iceberg during the night of April 14 and sank two hours and forty minutes later during the early-morning darkness of April 15.

Over 1,500 passengers and crew lost their lives. Responding to a Morse Code distress call from the radiotelegraph room of the Titanic, another ship, the Carpathia, responded and rescued 705 survivors from lifeboats floating on the icy waters of the north Atlantic. Visitors can listen to the distress call on our Morse Code tester.

Titanic Museums Of The World

The beloved Titanic has become a symbol of history and culture around the world and many institutions are interested in its preservation and sharing its beauty with the public. Since the ship was rediscovered on July 14, 1986, many have been interested in what the wreckage contains and what these artifacts can tell us about the life and death of the vessel. A variety of Titanic museums can be found around the world, each possessing unique items exhumed from the wreckage of the Titanic and each offering its unique story behind the unsinkable ship.

Titanic Museum Branson, MO

In 1987, owner of the Titanic Museum of Branson Missouri John Josyln co-led a 6 million dollar expedition to the site of the newly rediscovered Titanic shipwreck site. Diving multiple times to the wreckage in a submersible, the crew of the expedition took hundreds of images of the wreckage which became the inspiration for a variety of Titanic documentaries and shows and since have become some of the most famous images of the Titanic shipwreck. Since that journey, Josyln has dedicated his life to sharing the experience of the Titanic. This is done via a museum that is a two story replica of the ship itself and includes a grand staircase, walkable decks, various artifacts, and recorded tapes of survivor stories.

How Long Does It Take To Go Through The Titanic Museum In Pigeon Forge

This isnt necessarily an entire day type of attraction. But Id say it could at least be a half-day attraction if you stretch it out.

This also depends on what type of vacationer you are. I like to stretch my dollar and take my time.

At the very least, I would say plan to spend at least 2-3 hours at the Titanic Museum.

Anything short of that, and you may not be getting your moneys worth.

Visiting The Titanic Museum

Even though the Titanic Museum is only built half to scale, it is the largest permanent Titanic museum in the world. It is built in a pool, to create the impression of the RMS Titanic out at sea.
