Sometimes the only way to find out surprising facts about yourself is through trial and error.
For instance, am I the type of history nerd that would pay good money to see the largest collection of Titanic life jackets ever assembled?
Why yes. Yes, I am.
To be clear, this collection is of life jackets from the legendary doomed ship that sank in the North Atlantic nearly 110 years ago. It is not a collection of life jackets of unusual size.
The life jackets are just one of many diverting and interesting displays at one of the more improbably successful attractions in the history of tourism: The Titanic Museum attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
The Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge is hard to miss when driving down the Parkway. What is it, you may ask? Its a celebration of the ill-fated ship, its passengers and crew.
But is it worth the price of admission?
Lets dive in to some of the frequently asked questions about this attraction and what you can do there:
Tips For Visiting The Titanic Museum In Pigeon Forge
Is the Titanic Museum worth going to from Nashville?
The Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge is just a 3 hour, 20-minute drive from Nashville. If you’re spending more than a weekend in Nashville, it’s definitely worth the day trip, or maybe even a weekend trip, as there’s lots more to explore in Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains beyond.
Die-hard Titanic fans will want to use their Titanic Museum tickets first, as there are over 400 unique Titanic artifacts to explore. But after your visit, why not stop by Dolly Parton’s Dollywood? There’s also the WonderWorks Interactive Experience, Hollywood Wax Museum, a host of fun dinner and show opportunities, and comedy nights. Pigeon Forge is the family-friendly destination that keeps on giving.
What can I see inside the Titanic Museum?
For starters, this replica of the doomed, sunken vessel is shaped like the actual Titanic, only smaller. Situated in a manmade lake, they’ve gone all out with the water feature at the hull, creating the look of a ship that’s actually sailing!
Visiting the museum is an impressive experience, from the moment you’re assigned the name of a passenger on your White Star Line boarding pass, to the moment you exit and discover if the person you were assigned survived or not.
You can even put your hands in water that’s chilled to 28 degrees Fahrenheit the exact temperature the ocean was on that fateful night in 1912.

Fun And Interactive Experience
My husband and I loved learning about the Titanic, reading about people’s life stories, and touching the freezing cold water!
This whole place is amazing! They made my proposal so special! The staff is incredible! Perfect!!!!!
We werent expecting too much out of this museum given its location and often sensationalized subject matter, but it ended up being one of the best maritime museums weve ever visited! Extremely well done, respectful, and well-researched. If you have any interest in passenger travel, ocean sailing, history, or the disaster itself, this museum is an absolute must-see. Give yourself the full two hours for this one- there is a huge amount of information in this collection!
Second visit and still loved it. We did the audio tour and learned a lot of things. I would recommend that add on. Unfortunately, the iceberg wall wasnt there this time but it was still just as fun. I like that when you enter, you get a card with a name on it to see if you survived or died as a person aboard the Titanic. To me that is a great way to remember all those who were aboard the Titanic. A lot of history in this tour!

What Do You Do At The Titanic In Pigeon Forge
Like with most museums, you look at the displays and learn about its history.
You can feel the cool touch of an iceberg, take a guided tour, shop at the gift shop and soak in all the interesting information.
The displays including the life jackets are authentic Titanic items and there are many.
Theres a power of being so near to those things that carry you across time and distance, so that you dont feel exactly that you are in a strangely located tourist attraction, rather a legitimate museum with a legitimate connection to our collective past.
The employees in period costume are excellent in adding to the experience of putting you aboard historys best known ship.
There is a delicacy that goes along with building a tourist attraction on the back of a great tragedy, even one that happened so long ago. Titanic, somehow, walks that line.
I think a lot of that credit goes to a fairly obvious gambit. When purchasing a ticket, the visitor is given the name of a real-life passenger Molly Brown, for example.
At the end, you find out whether your passenger lived or died.
Its a very effective way of reminding you that there were real people who sank along with Titanic, who desperately clung to that collection of life vests, mostly hoping in vain to survive the icy cold night.
