Currier Museum of ArtStart Date:Issue Date:

The Currier Museum of Art is no open to the public as of Thursday, April 1 and has unveiled newly renovated and expanded classrooms. The Art for Vets Studios will host expanded veterans and community programs, made possible by CARES funds administered through the state and Swim With a Mission.

We are thrilled to be reopening. The museum belongs to the community as a place of discovery and learning, but also as a place to escape from a tough year, stated Alan Chong, director of the museum. Our new classrooms and exhibitions will launch us into the future.

Art for Vets at the Currier offers opportunities for veterans, active service members, and their families to come together and enjoy the benefits of the creative experience. The new classrooms in the museum will foster social connections through looking, art-making, and guided conversations.

We are so pleased that the Curriers Art for Vets Studios will now be able to accommodate even more veterans, stated Phil Taub of Swim With a Mission. We know that art makes a difference in veterans’ lives, particularly those struggling with issues such as PTSD. To see this beautiful space open to serve our vets is exactly what we had envisioned, and we are pleased to see this concept become a reality here in New Hampshire.

    Nice Art Gallery Paranoid Security

artwork was wonderful but we were the ONLY people in the museum and had to wear masks and security followed us all the time, very uncomfortable….Won’t be going back

Good quality museum with nice artwork. It’s not very large and can view the exhibits in a couple hours.

We have been to the Currier many years ago and returned recently to tour the Franklin Lloyd Wright house. The tour included admission to the museum. One of the visiting exhibits was on the history of the guitar. We thought it would be a quick walk-through and that we would have limited interest. Surprise, we spent an hour on this one exhibit. The variety of art suits many tastes. Parking is ample and the grounds are lovely. The gift shop is above average.

I’m no connoisseur, but love a good art museum. It is small, but wonderful. The collection is varied, and from what I understand a small portion is on display. The traveling exhibits are usually interesting. I have been many times over the past few decades, maybe twice a year. I still enjoy all the galleries there, and the temp exhibits as mentioned. I would recommend this to anyone. I even brought my Cub, Boy, and Girl Scout troops there. Maybe not for very young children, but there’s something for everyone to discover.

The Museum Is Reopening On April 1and Its Not An April Fools Joke: We Cant Wait To Welcome You Back

The Currier Museum of Art will reopen to the public on Thursday, April 1. A new exhibition, The Body in Art: From the Spiritual to the Sensual, will explore the creative ways artists through the ages have used the human body as a means of expression. These meanings included religion, passion, joy, and a sense of our own mortality. The past year has reminded us that we are all fragile but share a great deal in common.

Also on view when we reopen is Critical Cartography: Larissa Fassler in Manchester. Our artist-in-residence used large-scale maps to capture the strange and sometimes humorous interactions in downtown Manchester.

Finally, the Currier Museum is also celebrating the art of Tomie dePaola, the great book illustrator who died a year ago this month. We formed a close bond with Tomie when we showed his work in 2018 during the exhibition Beyond Words, and this new exhibition of his original drawings launches a fund set up in his honor to support art education for young people

The Currier Museum is yours. Come by to take a break and enjoy the richness of art. You will find familiar objects as well as some new surprises.

Great Way To Spend A Couple Of Hours In Manchester

Over the years I have been to the Currier Museum several times. It recently years the museum has spent a great deal of time and money modernizing itself. The layout has certainly improved from years past. Being a small museum, the Currier does a commendable job replicating some of the displays of larger museums such as the Boston Fine Arts Museum or the Met. However, due to its size the Currier has a very limited number of art pieces to display at any given time. Many of the pieces focus on artists from the area, along with a number who are more well known.I would give the Currier a better rating if it contained more works of art, but would still certainly describe it as a good way to spend some free time while in Manchester.

Visit NH : Currier Museum of Art

Visited with a field trip, welcoming and engaging, so much to see, field trip was too short to explore it all. Clean, organized, helpful staff. We will definitely be going back as a family to explore more. One staff member told us that museums are a community resource and they want people to feel welcome. Which was definitely felt.

FANTASTIC!!! I would add photos of the pieces, but it’s best to experience for yourself. They have a Van Gough, Monet, Picasso, O’Keefe, and many, many more! Go to this museum… as soon as you can! An little known gem of a spot in Manchester !
