Change Helps Facilitate Museum Academy Learning Program

Starting today, the Terre Haute Children’s Museum will limit its hours to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
These hours will be in effect until further notice.
The change is being made to help facilitate the Museum Academy, a learning pod program in which students receive in-person support from museum staff while also interacting safely with a small group of children.
Making the decision to limit our hours of operation was difficult because, first and foremost, we are a museum,” said Susan Turner, executive director. “However, to best support the students enrolled in the Museum Academy and meet the current community need for this program, we felt it was necessary.
When the museum is open to the public, it asks that visitors wear a mask and maintain social distance from other families.
The majority of the exhibits are open, and the museum is taking reservations for birthday parties this fall, according to a news release. The Ropes Challenge Course is scheduled to open later in September.
Admission to the Terre Haute Childrens Museum is $8 per person. Family memberships are also available. For more information, visit thchildrensmuseum.com.

Terre Haute Children’s Museum Announces Summer Hours
With longer days and seasonal changes in visitation patterns, the Terre Haute Childrens Museum will shift operating hours for the summer months.
The museum will open earlier at 9 a.m. and close earlier at 5 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday.
The Sunday hours will remain noon to 5 p.m. The museum will celebrate Downtown First Fridays with extended hours until 8 p.m. on June 7, July 5 and Aug. 2.
Weve been listening to our guests and they have been requesting modified museum hours for some time. We are excited to offer new hours for our guests this summer. It is our hope that families, summer camps and other organizations take advantage of our earlier hours, Susan Turner, executive director, said.
The summer operation schedule is as follows:
Mondays: closed
Tuesdays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ropes 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Wednesdays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ropes 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ropes 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Fridays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ropes 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Saturdays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ropes 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Sundays: noon to 5 p.m. Ropes 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The museum will be closed July 4 for Independence Day and Aug. 18 for a private event. Summer hours run June 1 through Aug. 18.
The Terre Haute Childrens Museum is at Eighth Street and Wabash Avenue. Admission is free for members and children under 24 months. Regular admission is $8 for adults and children over 24 months.

What To Expect At The Terre Haute Childrens Museum
On the first floor of the museum, kids can explore various facets of physics by making and testing out cars and rockets. There are also opportunities to exercise at the FIT Gym climb into the museums tree house, play with the giant Lite Bright and test out musical instruments.
Climb up the staircase to the second floor, and learn about how our food makes it from the farms to our tables. In the Ag-Citing exhibit, kids can learn to milk a cow and drive a tractor. At the grocery store, shop for groceries and then sit down to a pretend meal.

The second floor also includes the Water Works exhibit, a water table area featuring a continuous river and dam station, and a toddler splash area. Then, step inside the Bubble Ring, a larger-than-life bubble maker, to feel what its like to be enclosed in a giant bubble! There is also a dance Play Pad and an enclosed, soft play area for kids ages 4 and younger.
On the third floor, sharpen kids can sharpen their carpentry skills in the Under Construction exhibit. You can also race cars, play with trains, build skyscrapers with LEGOs, work in a veterinary clinic and so much more.

The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is dedicated to offering kids a safe and fun place to experiment, get creative, play, and learn!
Each of the exhibits feature something unique, that teaches the kids something new and different. Each of the exhibits are also designed for an age group in mind, so no matter what age those inquisitive minds are, they will be able to find something age appropriate for them.
For those under 4 years, they will love the Toddler Zone featuring padded floors, a safe play house, climbing structure and boys and toys perfect for those growing minds. Water fun awaits at Water Works, with a water table complete with dynamic water experiences. There is fountain programming, a river station and a toddler splash area too!
Those little ones aged 5 to 8 will love the Health Zone where they can celebrate and learn all about how bodies work, or come face to face with some real life critters in Critter Corner! From Pythons, to frogs, and even a working bee hive – those bug loving kiddies will be in their element!

Summer Fun Is Heating Up At The Terre Haute Children’s Museum
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Just like the temperatures, the summer fun is heating up at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum!
The museum is offering hands-on learning opportunities for our youngest friends!
There are three up-and-coming programs being offered through August 1st.
Those are the summer learning labs where kids take an in-depth look into different science topics.
Museum in the Park is another one. — it’s a two-hour messy science session at Deming Park.
There is also Discoverers. It’s for your baby learners. It engages three to 5-year-olds in songs, stories, and science!
One local mom says these programs are very helpful for kids who were born during the COVID-era. They’ve helped her child develop her people skills, and make friends!
“She’s more social, she’s able to wave at people now and just not be as timid around other people, around other kids. So, that’s pretty exciting,” local mother Samantha Elliott said.

Hands-On Science: Awesome Igloos. Who knew there was science behind igloos? Explore how igloos work and use your engineering skills to build one. Thaw out with us as we discover igloos. This will take place Jan. 2, 3 and 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and extended hours on Jan. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. for First Friday and is included with admission.

Terre Haute Childrens Museum Joins Access Pass Program
The Terre Haute Childrens Museum is pleased to announce it will be joining The Childrens Museum of Indianapolis, Conner Prairie Interactive History Park, the NCAA Hall of Champions, the Indiana Historical Society, and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in offering greatly reduced admission to families in need throughout the State of Indiana.
As part of its ongoing effort to provide extraordinary learning experiences for as many Indiana children and their families as possible, The Childrens Museum of Indianapolis created the Access Pass program in 2004. This successful statewide initiative provides low-income Hoosier families with opportunities to visit at the reduced rate of $1 per family member per visit. Conner Prairie joined the program in 2009, the NCAA Hall of Champions, the Indiana Historical Society and the Eiteljorg Museum all joined in 2010. The Terre Haute Childrens Museum is the first institution outside of the Indianapolis area to join the program.
The creation of the ACCESS Pass is a wonderful way the Museum and its partners like the Terre Haute Childrens Museum, reaches thousands of Hoosier families throughout the state to ensure all children and families, regardless of income are able to learn and grow together, said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Childrens Museum of Indianapolis.
