  • More Things To Do While In Cleveland

I suggest you pair the immersive experience with a trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art where they currently have four pieces of art on display by Van Gogh. The exhibit is called Theres Nothing like the Real Thing: Van Gogh at the Cleveland Museum of Art and is free to the public.

And dont miss the Lake View Cemetery which is minutes from the art museum. The cemetery has long been called an outdoor art museum and has stunning memorials. Read my post on the Eerie, Yet Beautiful Reasons to Visit Lake View Cemetery.

The exhibit is great for those who want to take a day trip to Cleveland but if you want to make it an overnight, I highly suggest a stay at the Drury Inn & Suites Downtown. The hotel is housed in the former Board of Education Building, still has the original murals on display in the lobby and offers evening kickbacks- finger foods, sodas and adult beverages for those who are interested. The hotel is also in downtown Cleveland within walking distance of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the FREE Stamp, Public Square and many restaurants. And its only a few minutes drive from the Immersive Van Gogh.

    Large Plane Trees in 2020

CLEVELAND â Those in the Cleveland area, or those willing to take a drive, have a chance to see special works of art from Vincent van Gogh for free.

    What You Need To Know

    • It’s estimated there are 800 original works by Vincent van Gogh
    • The Cleveland Museum of Art is displaying four of the artist’s works for free
    • The special exhibition will be on display until early December

The pieces currently are on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

William Robinson, the museum’s senior curator of modern art, wants visitors to get up close and personal with the pieces.

âThis is the kind of painting you really have to get close to appreciate,” he said looking at the most colorful piece of the museumâs collection. “To see the brushstrokes, everything is so perfect, heâs such a genius, heâs such a master, everything seems perfectly in place and you get the sense of rolling rhythm.â

The museum has four works by Van Gogh that draw an international crowd.

âWeâve been very fortunate to have one of the greatest collections, not just in the United States, but around the world, people come here from everywhere to look at our collection,â Robinson said.

Immersive van Gogh is an exhibit making stops across the country, including in Cleveland and soon to be in Columbus. It uses technology to bring the artist’s works to life.

While it’s a unique experience, Robinson said thereâs nothing like seeing the real thing.

    Areas With Loss Of Pigment

Looking more closely at this foreground passage we find aging patterns and changes to the work. In the layering, numerous applications both binder rich and dry paint show a tendency to crack and, in some areas, flake off. This is a sign that the layers are poorly adhered it is most apparent in two green passages where the intense green colors abut washes heavily pigmented with white. In these areas the upper green layers of paint have cracked and flaked off to reveal the underlying bright green-yellow paint. Poor adhesion between the layers explains this in part, but there is more at play in both locations there is prior paper creasing indicating the sheet was at one time roughly handled and became crumpled at these sites. This mechanical stress would have encouraged more extreme cracking and ultimately flaking of the paint layers.

The Cleveland Museum Of Art Rejects Claims That Its Upcoming Van Gogh Show Includes Eight Fakes

    large-plane-treesjpg-dbb1920069d3d4f3.jpg

“The Large Plane Trees,” an 1889 work by Vincent Van Gogh, is not one of the works questioned by the authors of a new book who claim that eight paintings to be shown soon at the museum alongside this work are fakes.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Museum of Art is dismissing allegations by that eight paintings in a show on Vincent van Gogh, scheduled to open Sunday, March 2, are fakes.

Benoit Landais of the Netherlands and Hanspeter Born of Zurich, Switzerland, claim the eight works in question were painted by Claude-Emile Schuffenecker , a mediocre artist in the circle of van Gogh who sold them as originals after van Gogh’s death in 1890.

The exhibition Van Gogh: Repetitions, is on view through Sunday at the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., which co-organized the show with the Cleveland museum. With 35 paintings and works on paper, including 13 repetitions, it is the first to focus on Van Goghs regular habit of painting double or multiple versions of favorite images.

Landais and Born said the artists practice of repeating himself was in essence an open invitation to forgers, including Schuffenecker. William Robinson, the Cleveland museums curator of modern European art and a co-organizer of the Van Gogh show, isnt buying the argument.

Robinson said that the vast majority of Van Gogh scholars do not agree with the theories of Landais and Born, which he called speculative.

What We Thought Of The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit

Cleveland Museum of Art – 5 galleries you should see

While I visited with my daughter-in-law, this would also be fun for a group of friends who are all interested in Van Gogh or for a romantic date night.

We enjoyed everything about the Immersive Van Gogh Cleveland exhibit. We had Premium Flex tickets which allowed us some leeway on arrival time. I wanted to make sure wed have plenty of time, even if we ran into heavy traffic. Our tickets also provided us free cushion rental which was perfect! The experience had already begun and was in process when we entered the room so the benches were all taken. Some people stood and waited for one to clear, but we grabbed a spot on the floor and plopped down with our cushion. The circles are spaced so you arent overly close to anyone else.

We were mesmerized. As the music ended, the benches cleared and a new wave of attendees emerged from the waiting area, we grabbed a seat on one of the nearby benches. We quickly realized that we had preferred our spot on the floor and moved back on to our cushions.

We watched and listened, captivated by the experience until the music ended and the credits appeared approx. 25 minutes later and made our way out of the exhibit room and exchanged our cushion to be sanitized for the next person and collected a keepsake poster.

The exhibit is housed in a historic venue off E. 72nd St. minutes off I-90 in the city of Cleveland. Youll find plenty of free, on-site parking available.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – An immersive and multisensory art event highlighting the works of Vincent van Gogh is staying in Northeast Ohio for a couple more months due to popular demand.

The exhibit opened to the public in September at the newly branded Lighthouse ArtSpace Cleveland on 850 East 72nd Street.

It was originally set to close in January, but it will now run through March 6, 2022.

Although largely unrecognized and commercially unsuccessful during his lifetime, Van Gogh gained critical recognition after his death and became one of the most influential painters in the history of art. He also suffered intermittent psychotic breakdowns and was interned at an asylum near Saint-Rémy in 1889. Perfectly lucid between attacks, he continued painting and spent three months working at Auvers-sur-Oise before committing suicide at age 37. This new installation at the CMA features two masterworks painted in southern France and Van Goghs etching of Dr. Gachet, the physician who cared for the artist during the last months of his life.
