Rmsc Cleaning And Sanitation Standards

We have worked diligently to ensure a safe environment for all who come through our doors. We will continue to rely on guidance from the CDC, New York State Department of Health, and Monroe County Health Department to make operational decisions and adjustments as necessary.

Cleaning & Sanitation Standards

  • RMSC custodial staff is on-site before, during, and after the Museum & Science Center, Nature Center, and Planetarium operating hours to sanitize and clean the restrooms, cafe, common areas, and exhibit galleries.
  • Staff are frequently cleaning and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces and highly interactive and hands-on surfaces.
  • The Star Theater chairs, railings and other high touch areas will be disinfected after every show.
  • Multiple hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the Museum & Science Center, Planetarium, and Nature Center.
  • Staff and volunteers are required to frequently wash their hands and to not come to work if they are sick or have a fever.

Rochester Museum And Science Center Comes To Life After Dark

RMSC After Dark is a 21+ themed, quarterly event which has gained so much popularity among adults of all ages that they consistently sell out. Lately they have been including the Strasenburgh Planetarium in the agenda, adding star shows and laser light shows to the mix of science, games, crafts, music and dance activities. After Dark usually an indoor & outdoor event in the warmer months, and dinner is available at food trucks parked in the lot.

Get there early! With the regular admission tickets, I recommend getting there a half-hour early just to grab a parking spot, otherwise youre parking on the street blocks away. Another option is to park your car in the lot around 5 PM and walk over to Park Ave. and grab a bite at one of the local restaurants.

Make sure to visit RMSCs website regularly for special showings, science lectures, and members-only events.

Monroe County Offers Additional Support For Rmscs Career Ladder Program

ROCHESTER, NY, July 14, 2021 The Rochester Museum & Science Center is pleased to announce that the Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation Board has awarded funding to expand the RMSC’s Career Ladder workforce development program. The expanded program will provide more opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to participate and develop critical work skills that will prepare them for jobs in science, technology, arts, and culture. County Executive Adam Bello was instrumental in securing this support.

The Career Ladder program at the RMSC was established in 2011 for high school students from the City of Rochester to develop critical work skills by providing long-term, on-the-job training in a positive and supportive environment. Over the last 10 years, this program has provided work experience to over 65 students. These students work as part of the RMSC Education Department team engaging with Museum visitors, facilitating educational programming, and maintaining exhibits.

Rochester Broadway Theatre Leagues Auditorium Theatre

Initially, the Auditorium Theatre was part of the Masonic building complex constructed in the early 1920s. The RKO Palace Theatre closed in 1964 and the Rochester Theater Organ Society purchased the theatres Wurlitzer pipe organ and installed it in the Auditorium Theatre when the existing organ was moved to a local church. When the Masons sold the complex, eventually the Rochester Broadway Theatre League purchased the auditorium half of the complex.

The details of the facilitys history can be found on the Rochester Broadway Theatre Leagues website here. The history of the Rochester Theater Organ Society, from founding to today, is found on this website here. The details of the instrument are located on this website here.
