The National Cowgirl Museum And Hall Of Fame Will Honor Five Inductees And Two Award Winners At The 45th Annual Induction Ceremony

A few of the Western industry’s finest will be honored at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony October 26, 2021, in Fort Worth, Texas. Among the honorees are a Yellowstone cinematographer, a country music icon, and a custom hattery entrepreneur.

This year’s inductees will join 240-plus cowgirls in the Hall of Fame including C& I favorite Reba McEntire, champion bronc rider Prairie Rose Henderson, and Annie Oakley star Gail Davis.

2021 Induction Class

Miranda LambertMiranda Lambert is a renowned country music superstar and gifted songwriter who started her career in local Texas bars and released her self-titled debut album independently in 2001.

Lari Dee GuyLari Dee Guy has won 11-consecutive AJRA world roping titles beginning at age nine. She is an eight-time Womens Professional Rodeo Association World Champion with more than $1.5 million in career earnings. With over 33 championship titles, Guy is the winningest female roper in the world.

Pop ChaleeArtist Pop Chalee was known for her influential and stylized depictions of forest scenes and wildlife, with graceful paintings of deer and horses. Chalee devoted herself to a flat, two-dimensional traditional style of Native American painting, but injected lighthearted imaginary touches that appealed to a wide audience of both adults and children.

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame will welcome four 2022 Inductees and two award winners at the 46th Annual Induction Luncheon and Ceremony. The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022 at the Dickies Arena.

These incoming Hall of Fame members represent a wide range of cowgirls including a philanthropist, a writer, a rancher, and a stock contractor. The induction 2022 class includes Sherry Cagan, Gretel Ehrlich, Heidi Redd, and Kirsten Vold.

We are honored to welcome this outstanding class of inductees and add their remarkable stories and accomplishments to the amazing group of honorees they are joining in the Museums Hall of Fame, said the Museums Executive Director Patricia Riley. Congratulations to all.

Sherry Wolfenbarger Cagan is a horsewoman, philanthropist, and an artist. She began the Stanford Lyme Working Group, an interdisciplinary collaborative research program consisting of 30 scientists, physicians, and department chairs. Additionally, Cagan initiated the first CME Lyme disease conference at Stanford. As a sculptor, she has received critical acclaim for her life-size monuments, and her work has been featured in several art magazines.

Additionally, the Museum is presenting two special awards this year. The Patsy Montana Award recipient is multi-faceted entertainer Faith Hill and the Fern Sawyer Award recipient is entrepreneur and cowgirl and Nadine Lipson.

FORT WORTH – The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is the only museum in the world dedicated to telling stories about cowgirls and it’s right in our backyard.

“We are here in the Cultural District, in Cowtown, and about cowgirls,” Madison Ward, Director of Public Engagement at the Museum says. “It is something that I feel is a Fort Worth staple that people need to see when they visit the city.”

The museum celebrates women, past and present, whose lives exemplify the courageous and pioneering spirit of what it means to be a cowgirl.

“In our museum, we like to tell all stories about all cowgirls,” Ward says. “People may just think about the cowgirl that ranches or the cowgirl that rodeos, but we have everything from performers to artists to Sandra Day O’Connor.”

Downstairs, guests will find the history of some of the first cowgirls like Annie Oakley.

“We have a hologram of Annie Oakley in our ‘Hitting the Mark, Cowgirls and Wild West Shows’ exhibition, and it is all the dimensions of Annie Oakley, as if she is standing right in front of you reading one of her letters,” Ward describes.

Upstairs, there are items and stories celebrating the museum’s honorees, like Jon Snow’s saddle from Game of Thrones.

“That might seem a little different because Jon Snow is a male and he isn’t a cowgirl, but our 2018 honoree Camilla Naprous, she was the horse master for the Game of Thrones series,” Ward says.

These incoming Hall of Fame members represent a wide range of cowgirls from a country music superstar, to a world champion breakaway roper, a renowned artist, cowboy hat designer and an Olympic medalist. The late artist Pop Chalee was known for her influential flat, two-dimensional traditional style of Native American painting with stylized depictions of forest scenes and wildlife. She painted murals for the Albuquerque Airport in 1945.

In 2013, Guy launched the Rope Like A Girl campaign to help motivate young girls and women in roping and has traveled the globe teaching. She is also an expert horse trainer and renowned clinician.

The Hitting the Mark: Cowgirls and Wild West Shows Gallery displays the historical significance of the cowgirls who performed in the Wild West shows from the 1880s to early 20th century. Visitors will be able to:

• View archival footage projected on several hanging glass screens and colorful images of Wild West posters
• Glass showcases featuring rare artifacts including Buffalo Bills Wild West Show parade flag, which is preserved by a Tru Vue Optium Conservation Grant from the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation and Tru Vue, Inc.
• Interactive activities for adults and children as well as computer-enhanced archival photographs that uniquely bring the time period to life
• Annie Oakley shares her story in her own words through the magic of cutting-edge technology of Peppers Ghost that merged photos of Annie Oakley with a model who posed as her for the interactive
• In addition, her wedding ring, hand written letters, and the one of the shotguns she used while traveling with Buffalo Bill Wild West Show are on display

Anne W Marion Gallery

The Anne W. Marion Gallery opened May 2015. The gallery is named after 2005 Cowgirl Honoree Anne Windfohr Marion in honor of her steadfast support of the Western lifestyle and preservation of Western heritage as well as her patronage of the arts. This space is designed for temporary exhibitions, including honoree and traveling exhibitions, and special events.

What Can You Expect To See & Do While Here

The outside of the building is a nod to the classic cowgirl, complete with relief sculptures and western murals, and the inside has a polished modern vibe.

On the first floor, you will find several areas to explore. Start with the small theatre to learn a little background on the museum and some of the amazing women featured here, including a kid favorite, Jessie, from Toy Story!

Look up to view the Grand Rotunda Mobile in all its technological glory. Some of the photographs are stills, others are video projections of the honorees.

Step into the Ann W. Marion Gallery to admire the latest Western art exhibition.

The Hitting the Mark: Cowgirls & Wild West Shows Gallery is what comes to mind when you think of the Wild West. Here youll find the iconic Annie Oakley,

Dont miss the photo booth at this exhibit. There are several authentic looking backgrounds you can have your picture made in. Our 15 year old field-tripper now has a nice souvenir of herself texting in the back of a covered wagon.

On the second floor, youll find these themed islands, displaying interesting artifacts, old and new, as well as some nontraditional cowgirl memorabilia.

The backdrop for this gallery is Western cinematic art projected in one continuous scene, having a beautifully dramatic effect.

This isnt the only immersive experience here. Kids will love the chance to design their own Western wear or style a horse in the Western Design Room.
