SANTA CLARA Football season is still months away, and sadly theres no guarantee how this years 49er team will fair, but if you find yourself longing for their winning ways of the past, a trip to the 49ers Museum in Santa Clara is just what the doctor ordered.

Located at Levis Stadium, the 20,000 square foot museum features 11 galleries, interactive displays, an education center and a game room for kids of all ages.

Watch the 20 minute history of the 49ers movie to set the tone for your visit. Narrated by Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jed York, and Eddie DeBartalo, Jr. among other 49er greats, and featuring sound clips from former San Francisco mayor Dianne Feinstein, the movie will transport you back in time, remind you of past tragedies, allow you to revisit the great victories, but most of all, this short documentary depicting the heritage of the 49ers will inspire you.

The movie exits right into the Edward J. Debartalo, Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame gallery, where life-size statues of 49ers from throughout the decades are on display. Interactive touch screens will tell you the background of each of the legendary 49er Hall of Fame members.

Levis Stadium is located in the city of Santa Clara in the heart of Silicon Valley, just north of San Jose and about 40 miles south of San Francisco.

Levis Stadium lies close to several major freeways, including US Route 101 to the south , California State Route 237 to its north, and the Interstate 880 to its east .

If using public transport, the stadium can be reached with the VTA Light Rail, which is a local light rail system that connects the stadium with places likes Mountain View, Sunnyvale, San Jose Airport, San Jose, and Milpitas. Great America station is the station closest to Levis Stadium.

If coming from San Francisco, take a Caltrain to Mountain View station and change to a VTA light rail train to Great America station. The Caltrain typically runs roughly every 1.5 hours on the weekend, but extra services run on matchdays. The journey from San Francisco typically takes just over 80 minutes but there are a few faster services that make the journey in 50 minutes. The light rail journey to Great America takes another half an hour.

From the East Bay area, including Oakland, Berkeley, and further afield Sacramento, take a Capital Corridor train to Santa Clara Great America station, a short walk away from the stadium. Trains run about every 1.5 2.5 hours on the weekends.

From destinations further east, including Stockton, ACE trains can be useful, which also stop at station Santa Clara Great America. All of the above trains also run from San Jose.

SANTA CLARA – Levi’s Stadium, the new Santa Clara home of the San Francisco 49ers, will be opening the 49ers Museum to the public Friday.

The museum, presented by Sony and billed as a first-class celebration of the 49ers past, present and future, features 11 unique gallery and exhibit spaces.

Fans will be able to check on the latest team news, walk amongst life-size statues of 49er greats, learn about the team’s history and relive the memories of the 49ers’ five Super Bowl Championships, stadium officials said.

The museum will be open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be special museum hours and admission rules on event days such as home games.

Museum ticket prices start at $15 for adults and $10 for children.

The San Francisco 49ers have officially re-opened the 49ers Museum presented by Foxconn Industrial Internet with new hours of operation and a revamped virtual tour experience online. After being closed to the public for over a year, the Museum re-opens today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT and will also be open to fans during and after the open practice at Levi’s® Stadium on Saturday, August 7th for “Dwight Clark 87 Day” in remembrance of 49ers legend Dwight Clark and his jersey number.

Throughout the fall, the Museum will be open for home games and one day before each home game. The Faithful will be able to visit the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame, featuring life-size statues of 49ers greats like Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Steve Young, and three new honorees who will be inducted this fall: Bryant Young, John Taylor, and Patrick Willis. Visitors can also pose with all five 49ers Lombardi Trophies and corresponding championship rings located in the Edward J. DeBartolo Jr. Super Bowl Gallery. Hours of operation on these dates will be 3 hours before kickoff to 15 minutes before kickoff, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. one day prior to home games.
