The Annapolis Maritime Museum Re-opens Following Renovations

TAG, YOURE IT

Hannah Hierstetter did not come to Scott Guenthers rescue when he fell off his bike she started giggling. The eighth grader was unimpressed by this cute boy and his failed trick, although she did promptly invite him to a neighborhood flashlight game that same evening. Within a few hours, the crush was established: Scott showed up conspicuously early, Hannah stole his hat which she still has and several weeks later, Scott asked Hannah to flip her claddagh ring upside down as an official mark of their coupling. The pair dated through high school and college at West Virginia University, before buying a house together in Locust Point in 2016.

SUNSET PIER

A year later, the pair headed to Key West for a vacation with friends. On the first evening, the group gathered to watch the sunset. Scott asked Hannah to take a picture with him, before pointing out a sailboat on the horizon Did she see it? She turned to look, and when she turned back, Scott was down on one knee. It was the most unreal moment because after 11 years together, I did not think he would be able to surprise me! Hannah says.

YELLOW AND BLUE FOR WVU

Hannah and Scotts ring bearer was extra little, so they had him carry a ring pop, instead of the real rings. Fun fact about the ring bearer pillow: It was made out of a vintage t-shirt Scotts mom had saved from a school field trip he took to St. Michaels, which was the location of their venue.

From the photographer, Teri, of tPoz Photography: I couldnt have been more excited for Laurie+Gregs Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum wedding, and I was certainly not disappointed. I mean, this couple is gorgeous already, but I was obsessed with the attire and details that they chose for their wedding day! When Laurie told me she was flying out to LA to try on some Grace Loves Lace gowns, I was practically drooling with excitement! Similarly, Gregs chic style complimented hers those custom made pants with the Indochino jackets on point!!
We watched and fretted over the weather that whole week, seeing potential storms, winds & cool temperatures. And although the clouds parted for the sun to shine, it was windy and very chilly. Luckily, their venue, the Chesapeake Maritime Museum, provided several options for the ceremony location. As a result they decided to move their ceremony from the Tolchester Beach Bandstand to inside the Small Boat Shed. And it was even more intimate and cozy!

Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Wedding Video: Christina & Blake

Christina and Blake chose to switch it up for their Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum wedding. Rather than getting married in a church and hosting the reception inside the museum, like Svetlana and Tyler, the couple had their ceremony inside the museum followed by a tented reception. The two didnt get a sunny day, but the mist coming off the bay still set a magical vibe.

Their Trailer Film focuses on their vows, which the couple wrote personally for each other. While we love traditional vows, writing your own vows is one of the best ways to make your wedding video like no one elses!

Christina also opted for peonies for her wedding flowers. She paired the fluffy white blooms with blue thistles and black and white anemones. A couple flowers delicately graced the edges of their naked wedding cake.

Unfortunately, the couple didnt share wedding vendor information with us. If youre one of the vendors, wed love to credit your work! Please contact us to have your information added!

Stay: Inn At Perry Cabin

Sounds rustic, but far from it. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn met their lady-loves right on the back lawn of this sprawling impressive, luxury inn compound, in the movie Wedding Crashers.

Rooms in pale colors, traditional colonial furniture with high-end bedding, are lovely, and service is friendly, low-key and on the mark. Some lavish chambers are even pet-friendly. Its the perfect location to explore the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum right next door. Room rates start at $350 per night.

    Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Highlights

    justine & zach

From the start, she made us feel so special, and was extremely conscious of what we were looking for and what we were about as a couple. We were looking for a romantic style that captured the fun, intimacy and closeness that we share. She captured us so well. I couldnt speak highly enough of her, her professionalism, her aesthetic, or her presence.

“It didnt take long before we found comfort and friendship in Amanda.”

    alyssa & matt

Her easygoing, fun personality made our wedding such a fantastic experience. Not only was she awesome to be around, she got our pictures to us quickly and they were absolutely breathtaking! I HIGHLY recommend booking with Amanda!

“She got our pictures to us quickly and they were absolutely breathtaking!”

    sherri & tom

Our wedding date was March 20th 2020… this was the week our state and everything around us started closing down. I reached out to Amanda to see if she was still on board and comfortable with photographing our intimate last minute ceremony, and without hesitation, she said yes.

“Her selflessness made there one less devastated bride-to-be in this world.”

Portrait locations on CBMM property relies heavily on the condition of the light on the day of your wedding. That being said, the front of the lighthouse, on the lawn overlooking the waterfront, and under the treelined walkways are all beautiful locations for portraits with family.

Ahhhh a wedding on the water Theres truly nothing like it. There is one type of waterfront event that were particularly partial to: a Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum wedding.

Svetlana & Tylers Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Wedding Video

This video was actually one of LoveStoriesTVs most-watched wedding videos in 2019 and when you watch it, youll know why!

Svetlana and Tyler were blessed with a gorgeous, sunny day for their wedding. The sun sparkled through the trees as they slow-danced on the dock amongst the yachts and boats. Her spring flowers from Sherwood Florist, complete with pink peonies, coordinated perfectly with the blush bridesmaids dresses.

The couple tied the knot in a beautiful church followed by a dreamy bubble exit. The reception was held inside the museum with boats all around. We love how they used one of the boats to honor members of their family by placing their photographs on the bow. White tablecloths and white chairs blended into the atmosphere of the room seamlessly.

    Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Wedding

St. Michaels, like almost every other Chesapeake town, was built on the oyster industry. In fact, the very Maritime Museum itself was built atop oyster shells, as this was the site of an oyster canning plant.

Through a myriad of buildings on 18 acres, programs and demonstrations, it does an excellent job immersing visitors in the Chesapeakes boating and fishing history and culture. A premier, destination attraction in Maryland, plan on at least a half day to explore.

Back in the 1600s, when Pocahontas was saving John Smiths life , Chesapeake Bay oysters were as large as forearms.

In the 18th into the 19th Century, Bugeyes easy-to-sail dredge boats dominated the bay. With oysters piled high, watermen met up with Buy Boats, and Buy Boats sold to processing plants where oysters were shucked and crabs picked.

These were all links in a chain of work that was arduous, physically demanding, and male oriented. But colorblind. Black and white men toiled together as Maryland was home to the largest number of free slaves, even before the Civil War.

Oyster Mania and the Civil War Connection

Oyster experts cite the Civil War as a turning point in the Oyster Industry. Cans of oysters, cheap and readily available, were a staple of both Union and Confederate mess supplies.

Our Waterfront Wedding Daydreams Come True

With a crisp blue + white color palette and a blend of nautical details, Vanessa & Ryans Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum wedding has quickly stolen our hearts! Lighthouse views set the scene, and the provided the perfect backdrop along the Miles River. We cant get enough of this quintessential Eastern Shore wedding!

From Lauras Focus Photography: Vanessa & Ryans nautical, bayside wedding at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland looked straight out of a magazine! There were so many beautiful details including hand painted oyster shells, succulent filled bouquets, nautical sugar cookies, Mr. & Mrs. buoys, oyster can floral arrangements, orange signature drinks, a queso fountain, and some donut socks! The day started out with everyone getting ready at the Inn at Perry Cabin where Vanessa and Ryan also had a sweet first look on the dock. Everyone then met up at the museum for some bridal party images before the ceremony inside the boat shed under a custom floral arch. The reception took place under the most gorgeous sailcloth tent overlooking the Miles River. Vanessa and Ryan started off the reception with a choreographed dance, and then came the most beautiful pink and orange sunset! Mixing Maryland kept the dance floor moving all night and Ryan had his wish of a queso fountain which was a huge hit! I would call this the perfect eastern shore wedding!

Nautical Eastern Shore Wedding At Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

After spending weekends there during their dating years, Anna Leist and Kevin Weigand knew they wanted to return to St. Michaels for their wedding. Their celebration at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum included everything we love about Eastern Shore eventspreppy navy accents, lanterns, and a custom compass monogram. Take a look at the highlights from their day in the photos below by Connor Studios.

Anna and Kevin may have become good friends while they were both enrolled in law school at William & Mary, but it took graduating and moving apart for them both to realize they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. When Anna decided to transfer to DC, where she would be much closer to Kevin in Northern Virginia, she had to miss Christmas with her family due to her move. Kevin invited Anna to celebrate the holiday with his family in Long Island instead, and it it was clear to everyoneespecially Kevins grandmother, who bought their engagement card shortly after their visit endedthat they would end up together forever.

After a little over two years of dating, Anna and Kevin took a weekend trip on St. Michaels, one of their favorite spots for a getaway. A full day of completely ordinary sight seeing quieted any of Annas suspicions that this might be the weekend Kevin proposed, but little did she know he was waiting for the perfect sunset moment to pop the question.
