This can lead to many new experiences, some good like learning how they interact with others while other times it may turn out not so much! But what better way than to let these little ones take on this responsibility of making choices? They are born in an era where everything has been about choice capitalizing off the opportunity would make us adults proud too.

Museum Square Billed As Catalyst For Arts District

Musical Instrument Museum

Several residents and council members expressed hope that the project would reinvigorate a once renowned Scottsdale arts district that has faded in recent years.

Jim Bruner, a former city council member, mentioned that Eleanor Roosevelt, in 1947, wrote about her delight in the area in a newspaper column. He said more than 70 years later, the area needs a boost.

As part of the project, the developer will contribute to improving the nearby Museum of the West, support improvements to the nearby Stagebrush Theater and contribute 1% of the project’s to the city’s public arts fund.

“This was once known as a premiere artist community, but it’s kind of lost its luster over the years,” Councilwoman Suzanne Klapp said. “This project is going to put Scottsdale back on the map as an artist community.”

Sale Price Reduced Over Height Issues

ARC Scottsdale Holdings LLLP, with Macdonald as the primary developer of Museum Square, will purchase seven acres from the city for $27.75 million, not accounting for the nearly $7.2 that will be applied for the public parking spaces.

The price will be reduced to $26.75 million if the developer manages to terminate a deed restriction that imposes height restrictions on the land.

City officials had contemplated spending close to $3 million to acquire a condo unit in order to eliminate the deed restriction, but Assistant City Manager Brent Stockwell confirmed that the developer would now purchase the condo unit to achieve this.

Rose said the developer is purchasing the condo for roughly $1 million.

Last year, the City Council approved a downtown plan that allows buildings to rise 150 feet just outside its downtown core, from Fifth Avenue to Second Street. A portion of the Museum Square project falls just inside the southern tip of the downtown core, which only allows for buildings to be built up to 40 feet high.

To build a hotel that will rise 13 stories, the developer will pay $885,063 into the city’s Downtown Improvement Trust Fund for the city to use for future capital projects.
