Despite recent setbacks due to coronavirus-related woes, San Diego wineries remain optimistic on growth potential, according to a trade official.

“Even with challenges from the pandemic, we saw innovative sales strategies among local wineries such as curbside pickup and outside service reservations demonstrating the innovation and incredible resilience of our winery members in the face of unprecedented times,” said San Diego County Vintners Association President Ed Embly, owner of Hungry Hawk Vineyards in Escondido. “We continue to see the number of wineries grow in the county and a bright future for the industry in our region.”

A Visual Tour Of The Car Museum Thats Also A Winery

With a bit of elbow grease, this one could be a real gem.

While looking for interesting car events near our home base in Southern California, I stumbled on a unique museum that had never crossed my radar: the Deer Park Winery and Auto Museum in Escondido. Yes, that’s right: It’s a winery, too, and it also houses a collection of vintage American household items in addition to the cars on site. I had to go, and so I pointed myself south on the 15.

If you’re looking for a place with cool cars minus the huge crowdoften annoyingly viewing the art or cars through their smartphones rather than savoring the experiencethis is your place. Nestled in the wine-producing region of San Diego County, the Deer Park property is located near Old Highway 395 on Champagne Boulevard. It’s the brainchild of real-estate magnate Robert Knapp, who accumulated a collection of vintage cars, Americana, and antiques of such a size that he decided to open a museum in 1979. The majority of the cars at Deer Park are convertibles, and they’re spread across three separate buildings.

Prior to the trip, I read several unflattering reviews on Google, TripAdvisor, and Yelp, primarily involving the quality of the wine and the upkeep of the grounds. I figured at worst I’d sample “terrible” wine and browse cars covered in dustit would take more than online bleatings to deter me from making the drive down from Los Angeles.

We stayed at the Welk Resort in Escondido. I was told that the Deer Park Winery and Auto Museum was very close. We visited. This was much better than the Auto Museum at Balboa Park in San Diego. A curved dash Olds is one of the first cars I saw, beside a 1950 Studebaker pickup. There is a large collection of 1950s and 1960s cars some of which …3.5/5
