Knock Knock Children’s Museum Executive Director speaks at Baton Rouge Press Club

The LSU campus is full of historic sites, activities and museums perfect for families, including the LSU Campus Mounds. Two conical mounds on the campus are thought to be mounds constructed by Native Americans as ceremonial sites anywhere from 4,000 to 2,000 BC. Even though they are ancient landmarks, you dont have to look at them from afar. You are allowed to walk on the mounds, and kids often enjoy rolling down the hills or simply running up and down them.

After more than a year, Knock Knock will reopen JUNE 5th, with the full Knock Knock experience of hands-on, imaginative play in their 18 Learning Zones.

The announcement comes after Knock Knocks COVID safety protocols and reopening plan were approved by both the Louisiana Department of Health and the State Fire Marshal’s office, making Knock Knock the first childrens museum in the state to be cleared to fully reopen with tactile and hands-on exhibits. Knock Knocks comprehensive COVID safety plan is now being used as a model for other childrens museums around the state.

This is exciting news for Knock Knock and childrens museums statewide, said Executive Director Peter Claffey. We have been developing detailed reopening plans for months. Of course, those plans have continued to evolve as the science and guidelines have changed, but with the recent approval by the State Fire Marshal and LDH, we are confident we can finally provide our visitors the full Knock Knock experience safely and without sacrificing our mission.

Knock Knocks newly approved COVID safety protocols include extensive new cleaning procedures, visitor entry, and exit protocols, and even modifying some Learning Zones to ensure the safest experience possible.

Louisiana Childrens Museum Summer Admission & Memberships

Advance timed-entry tickets will be required to effectively manage the number of guests. Advance timed-entry tickets will be available beginning Monday, May 17 at 9 a.m. at www.lcm.org/tickets.

Admission to the LCM is $14 per person for adults and children 12 months and older. LCM Family Memberships are also available for purchase and include general admission for a full year of play and exploration.

LCM memberships that were active when the museum closed will automatically be extended. All members will receive their full 12-month value of membership. New membership cards with updated expiration dates will be mailed to members in early May.

Grow A Love For Plants

The whole family can enjoy their time learning about plants, nature and butterflies at the gardens Baton Rough has to offer.

The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens offer a natural retreat in the city. Follow the trails around a swamp area, arboretum, a rose garden and other areas. The Childrens Garden is an ideal area for your kids to explore nature. The Gardens encourage kids to touch items in the area and explore nature. The butterfly garden section of the Childrens Garden gives your kids a chance to observe butterflies at all stages, from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis and, finally, butterfly. Kids are also invited to try the many edible plants growing in the garden.

Another option is the Botanic Garden at Independence Park. The outdoor gardens are a work in progress, with more areas being added as funding becomes available. The area features many different types of flowers, including ginger, fern, daylily, iris and rose gardens. The Sensory Garden is full of edibles, including herbs. The park also has a butterfly garden.

Baton Rouge Gallery Center For Contemporary Art

The Baton Rouge Center for Contemporary Art is known for having an extensive collection of various art ranging from paintings to sculptures. The Contemporary Art Gallery opened the doors for modern art in Baton Rouge. It first started as a temporary gallery that was taken down but has now grown into a great gallery that exhibits some of the best modern art you can find in the state of Louisiana. Today, the gallery is located in what was once known as the City Park Pool House. Visitors are sure to find professional, local, and national artwork displayed throughout the gallery. Keep your eyes open because you might see work by your favorite photographers, painters, sculptors, printmakers, and/or multimedia artists.

Knock Knock Childrens Museum Is Reopening In June

BATON ROUGE, La. – After being closed for over a year, months of work and weeks of negotiations, Knock Knock Childrens Museum located just minutes from the LSU Lakes says it will reopen to the public Saturday, June 5.

The announcement comes after Knock Knocks COVID safety protocols and reopening plan were approved by both the Louisiana Department of Health and the State Fire Marshals office, making Knock Knock the first childrens museum in the state to be cleared to fully reopen with tactile and hands-on exhibits.

Knock Knock says because there is a capacity limit of up to 200 people, museum visitors will be required to pre-register for a two-hour session, either in the morning or in the afternoon.

According to the museum, the morning session scheduled for Saturday, June 5 is full. There are a few spots left in the afternoon session.

Masks No Longer Required But Are Still Encouraged

Knock Knock Childrens Museum is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all our guests and patrons. In accordance with the Governor lifting the statewide mask mandate, Knock Knock will no longer require guests to wear masks inside our facility. While masks are not required, mask-wearing is still encouraged. Knock Knock will continue its increased safety and cleaning measures, including social distancing and capacity signs throughout the museum.

A part of the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium offers a fun way to learn about the stars and take in other fun shows on the planetarium dome. Your ticket to the museum also grants you access to the planetarium shows. Shows about stars anchor the planetariums schedule, but the facility also shows other movies related to things like engineering and nature.

Knock Knock Childrens Museum plans to offer reduced admission to families in need and free field trips to kids in the city-parishs Head Start program, hoping to knock down barriers that would otherwise prevent any child from experiencing the museum. The Knock Knock Children’s Museum on Dalrymple Drive in Baton Rouge will reopen to the public sometime in June making it the first children’s museum in the state to fully reopen with tactile and hands-on exhibits after getting the approval of the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Louisiana Department of Health.

“We are very excited,” Jimmy Frederick, the museum’s director of marketing and communications, said Thursday. “We’ve been closed 410 days, since March 14, 2020.”

He said the museum could have possibly reopened earlier without the tactile and hands-on experience, “but then it’s not a children’s museum.”

“The whole point of Knock Knock is to have children play in our learning zones,” Frederick said. But he said that wasn’t possible under previous state guidelines.

“Just looking at Legos is no fun,” he said.

The museum will announce the exact date of the June reopening soon, Frederick said.

The museum’s comprehensive safety plan is being used as a model for other children’s museums in the state, he said.

Baton Rouge families, the Louisiana Childrens Museum opens to the public August 31st and you should start planning your day trip now! We recently had the opportunity to attend a media preview of the LCM, it wasnt yet complete, yet we felt like we were walking through the most magical of places. Its going to be something special for Louisiana families, a tactile experience that will delight young and old alike. Every section of the LCM is created to stimulate imagination, creativity and critical thinking in children and families through many inventive and engaging experiences, most importantly PLAY! Every decision made throughout the museum was intricately thought out to help elevate the capacity of our little ones.

Julia Bland, CEO of Louisiana Childrens Museum, spoke beautifully on the importance of childhood, she encouraged us to enjoy and celebrate children where they are and to not make the mistake of wishing away seasons of childhood. The museum has been structured to support parents in their efforts to embrace each stage of development while focusing on literacy, environmental education, health and wellness, STEM, arts, and our rich Louisiana culture.

Learn About World War Ii At The Uss Kidd

The USS KIDD is a restored World War II naval destroyer that gives kids a glimpse at what the ship looked like in 1945. This kid-friendly attraction is right in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge on the Mississippi River, serving as a memorial to those who served. The location is unique due to the huge differences in water levels throughout the year. A special docking system means the ship is dry-docked in a specially designed cradle docking system for part of the year. The rest of the year, the ship sits in the waters of the Mississippi.

Cheer For Lsu Sports Squads

The LSU campus offers several things to do with kids in Baton Rouge, including plenty of sporting events where you can cheer on the Tigers. In the fall, head to Tigers Stadium to root for the football team. Alex Box Stadium comes alive during baseball season as the Tigers take the field. The school has a slew of other sports teams, including basketball, softball, soccer, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, track and field, and tennis, so you have plenty of other sporting events to choose from as well.
